DJ Snake reveals Burna Boy collaboration ‘No Option’ was originally written for RihannaDj Snake On Decks Swagger Rukes

Ah, what could have been.

In a new interview with Apple Music‘s Zane Lowe, Parisian hitmaker DJ Snake revealed his July single alongside Burna Boy, “No Option” was originally intended for none other than Rihanna. The track’s distinct dancehall frame would have been the perfect backdrop for a Rihanna smash, but alas, the beat wound up finding a home on DJ Snake’s recently released sophomore LP, Carte Blanche. The reason “No Option” never turned into Rih’s next big hit? Simply put, DJ Snake just loved the beat too much to give it up. According to Snake,

“I made the beat in Paris last year… [Rihanna] wanted this record for a year and we ended up using it. You know because I fell in love with this record and I don’t know…I don’t want to say like the wrong things so all the Rihanna fans is going to kill me. I just had to follow my heart. That’s it.”

The Barbadian pop queen has been long at work on her hotly anticipated ninth LP. Over the last year, sources have signaled to a reggae/dancehall record on the way, with rumors suggesting Rihanna is sorting through as many as 500 songs for the album. Furthermore, Diplo, Skrillex, and Calvin Harris have all been tied to the elusive ninth album as well.

First Listen: Zane Lowe drops his infectious spin over rising star Ava Max’s ‘So Am I’ [Stream]Zane Lowe Djing

In a league with Annie Nightingale, Howard Stern, and Casey Kasem, Zane Lowe represents one of the most popular and distinguished voices in all of radio. An artist’s music, or their story, catching his ear is one thing, but for Lowe to be impressed enough to actually roll up his sleeves and lay his spin on an artist’s track is a whole different ballgame altogether. In fact, it has been seven years since the last time Lowe turned in a remix, though the production hiatus is now over with a vibrant remix of Ava Max’s “So Am I.”

The Beats 1 figurehead lays an infectious, summery spin over Max’s sweeping pop hit. Taking the track from the radio to the pool deck with his remix, Lowe manipulates Max’s vocals to make them his own, polished with tropical drums for a pair of sweet, pleasant breaks. Ava Max is on her way to being a household name. The Atlantic-championed singer was recently nominated for Best New Artist at the 2019 MTV VMA’s, placing her profile alongside a class of current wave makers including Billie Eilish, Lizzo, and Lil Nas X.

Ava Max’s trajectory to pop success looks firmly set in stone, but a rare, and ultimately satisfying appearance from Zane Lowe, might give Max some crossover credibility in the electronic space as well. Listen below.

Dillon Francis releases bilingual R&B slow-burner, ‘Fix Me,’ with Cuco, stops by the Zane Lowe showDillon Francis Cuco 1

Dillon Francis has teamed up with Cuco for a slow burner, ”Fix Me,” that plays with stingy synths alongside involved high hats and an easygoing rhythm. The Chicano heartthrob plays the lead on the track, effortlessly transitioning from English to Spanish while maintaining an R&B flow. Francis’ atmospheric production provides a platform for Cuco to shine, earning them a spot on Zane Lowe’s World Record on Beats 1.

After a stellar 2018, Francis started 2019 with an Alison Wonderland collaboration, “Lost My Mind,” which introduced their co-headlining Lost My Mind tour. He also made a song for The Lego Movie 2 that featured auto-tune legend T-Pain and That Girl Lay Lay. Lego Cuco is about to embark embark on a California tour starting Feb. 12.

The Chainsmokers release new original, ‘This Feeling,’ duo talk shifting career direction in new interview with Zane LoweChainsmokers Side Effects Remi Pack

The Chainsmokers‘ string of releases off of Sick Boy continues with a new sultry tune called “This Feeling.” The release is a stark contrast from the previous track they dropped from the album, which came by way of a style-departing dubstep effort alongside NGHTMRE titled “Save Yourself.”

Vocalist Kelsea Ballerini fuels the track, serving as the focal point of the release with The Chainsmokers’ subtle electronic undertones anchoring the backdrop. “This Feeling” is definitely another radio-ready product from the “Closer” duo, and adds an interesting dynamic to the collection of versatile releases on Sick Boy.

Alex Pall and Drew Taggart sat down with Zane Lowe on his Beats 1 slot for Apple Music to discuss the release, and had some interesting insight for fans wondering what the duo’s path forward looks like. Pall notes,

“The fact that we can just write a new song today, and it’s not like ‘Oh shit it doesn’t fit into the album, we have to wait like ten months to put this out or something.’ You know I mean, now we just swap something out swap it around, do whatever. I think what we’re doing right now, and where our music goes, is going be the most challenging part of our career. The world is changing so fast, and trying to find your identity and write something that connects with people, that you’re proud of is right now the most challenging thing.”

Despite playing 200 shows a year, the duo also spoke about a studio session they recently had with emerging emo rapper Juice WRLD, in which they wrote not one but three tracks. “This Feeling” is a dynamic addition to the duo’s collection of hit releases, but it seems that we should be expecting plenty more to come from Pall and Taggart in the near future.

RÜFÜS DU SOL release most exploratory track to date, ‘Lost In My Mind’

RÜFÜS DU SOL release most exploratory track to date, ‘Lost In My Mind’Lost In My Mind Rufus Du Sol 1

Of the recent triad of RÜFÜS DU SOL releases, the newest, “Lost In My Mind,” serves as a bold outlier, delineating itself from its atmospheric house predecessors, “Underwater” and “No Place,” out on Reprise Records.

“Lost In My Mind” uses tribal choral elements and hazy reverb to tell a downtempo tale of labored transcendence. The lyrics reveal a sense of confinement, as if lead vocalist Tyrone Lindqvist is trudging through a monotonous sea of barren landscape, only to realize he is walking in place. Epochal synth riffs soon wash over Lindqvist, imploring him to beat on.

The track suggests that good things must come in threes, as “Lost In My Mind,” the third breadcrumb on the trail to SOLACE — the Australian trio’s third album — has already garnered the support of Zane Lowe, who has secured the track for his World Record on Apple Beats 1. The SOLACE Fall Tour kicks off late October and will roll on for a solid month until near November’s end. The release date for the album itself has yet to be announced.

The album has been fashioned largely from sheer juxtaposition of the trio’s new home, the vacillating Californian terrain: a stark contrast of harsh desert and languorous coastline.

Gorillaz return with new single, ‘Humility’

This post was originally published on this site

Damon Albarn went to Zane Lowe‘s Beats 1 radio show to debut the new single “Humility,” set for release on the Gorillaz upcoming LP, The Now Now.

In a wide-ranging conversation, Albarn revealed to Lowe that the new album has a distinct lack of features compared to the group’s other works, with only “Humility’s” featured vocalist, the jazz and soul legend, George Benson, and Snoop Dogg slated for appearances on The Now Now, leaving the rest of the vocal heavy lifting to Albarn himself. Albarn also puts the kibosh on the rumors that he lost an entire Gorillaz LP by leaving his laptop in the back of a cab.

Wavy synths and a thorough backbeat make for a mellow, smooth tune. One that is likely a primer for the “summer record” Albarn has promised.
