Rewind time with Porter Robinson’s sentimental ‘Worlds’ set at Second Sky [WATCH]Porter Robinson Worlds Live

It’s safe to say that Porter Robinson‘s first go at a festival, Second Sky, was a glowing success. The two-day event touched down in Oakland on June 15 and boasted a star-studded lineup including his Shelter collaborator Madeon, Cashmere Cat, and even a surprise showing from Skrillex. Robinson also took opening slots on both days of the event under his Virtual Self moniker to encourage early entry and music discovery.

One of the biggest treats for those in attendance, however, was the revival of Porter’s Worlds live set. The set was more expressive and ethereal than ever, with the musician immersing himself fully into the vibrant performance. Worlds sets aren’t common these days on the performance circuit, since Robinson’s been taking the better part of the last couple years promoting his iconic new Virtual Self project.

Those who missed both the event and its live stream are in luck; the set has since been uploaded to multiple platforms for listening pleasure, and the Twitch stream is now available on YouTube. Those lucky enough to be present can also relive this singular experience that took place that fateful evening in Oakland.

As Porter Robinson‘s inaugural Second Sky Festival approaches, anticipation for the event’s special programming is reaching a fever pitch. Virtual Self is providing the opening performance, Madeon is expected to crowd test a slew of new material, and perhaps the most anticipated moment of all is Robinson’s Worlds revival set, the first of which he’s performed since 2017. Best of all, the festival has announced it will live stream via Twitch on June 15 so fans across the world can tune in to the day’s action.

Recently the “Ghost Voices” producer launched the Robinson Malawi Fund in honor of his younger brother and fans in attendance in Oakland as well as live stream viewers will be able to donate in real time.

The Goldenvoice-championed event will stream on Saturday, June 15 from 4:00 – 10:00pm PST. Acts billed to play the debut Second Sky Festival include Nina Las Vegas, G Jones, Cashmere Cat, and more. Tune into the live stream here.

In the five years since Porter Robinson released his groundbreaking Worlds LP, the forward-thinker has kept himself busy with expanding his creative horizons. He linked with fellow visionary Madeon for “Shelter,” created a new alias, Virtual Self, and carved out an impressively successful debut behind the new moniker. He’s launched a new festival brand which takes place in Oakland this month, and now, he’s finally returning to just being Porter Robinson; and with that, new music is confirmed to be underway.

The “Spitfire” producer took to social media to announce his return to the studio, to many fans’ excitement. It is worth noting that while Robinson has steadily produced new material over the last five years, he has not released any work under his own name since 2014. Robinson was tight lipped about an intended release date, though, with his Second Sky festival around just the corner, that seems like the perfect testing ground for some new, unheard material.

Porter Robinson has cracked yet another new chapter in an already decorated career. Following a number of successful production ventures, from Virtual Self  to Worldsthe logical next step was to add event curator to his list of credentials. Now, as Robinson’s Goldenvoice co-signed Second Sky Music Festival ramps up for its summer debut, the visionary producer is sweetening the pot with two highly anticipated performances scheduled for the June 15 event.

Porter Robinson will perform the only Worlds live set of the year at Second Sky festival, his first since retiring the live show as a result of Virtual Self’s launch in 2017. What’s more—Robinson’s upping the ante on an already stacked single-day lineup with the most recent addition to the event roster: Madeon.

The famously collaborative young visionaries will reunite in Oakland this summer, and while Madeon is only billed for a DJ set, fans are expecting his Second Sky performance to be a testing crowd for what could be a trove of new work. Moreover, the prospects of an on-stage reunion between the “Shelter” creators have fans in a frenzy, even if a co-performance is unlikely. Madeon is the latest artist to announced on the event’s lineup, joining Nina Las VegasCashmere Cat, Chrome Sparks, G Jones, and more. See the announcement below.

REZZ delivers decadent Porter Robinson ‘Divinity’ remix

REZZ never shies from an opportunity to provide her fans with precisely what they’ve been craving. For her latest demonstration, REZZ has dimmed the lights on a feverishly beloved Porter Robinson production, “Divinity” from his iconically insurgent Worlds album.

REZZ’s commanding rendition of “Divinity” materializes like a malevolent stepsister. Glitchy and deliciously wicked, REZZ’s “Divinity” is like a fiery lullaby from the netherworld, as the track’s original, ethereal vocals and twinkling synth allure give way to her thunderous and highly nuanced bass and percussion infusion.

Quite characteristically of the Canadian mau5trap talent, REZZ delivered on her Twitter intonations of the remix in under a week. Her patently expedient turnaround in the studio is evident in her packed release record in recent years, with back-to-back August album releases in 2017 and 2018 amid a wall-to-wall touring schedule.

REZZ remixes always bring originals into her dark and trippy sonic realm in a way that piques max-level curiosity. So, when the mau5trap star announced via Twitter that she was tackling a song from Porter Robinson‘s beautiful and canonized Worlds LP, the hype was, unsurprisingly, instant. Just a day after revealing that the remix  in question would be “Divinity,” the crowd at REZZ’s Friday tour stop in Montreal were treated to an unveiling of the remix.

Preserving the original’s gorgeous bell plucks and airy vocals, REZZ reframes its key pieces with an injection of sinister sonic flair. The beauty of “Divinity” remains, but is now drenched in delicious REZZ darkness. The artist has promised to play the remix for the remainder of her “Certain Kind of Magic” tour, thought it’s unclear when and if fans can expect the rework’s official digital release.
