REZZ‘s upcoming Beyond The Senses EP has become one of the most highly anticipated electronic releases of the year. The six-track EP, which already features contributions from Deathpact and Underoath, aims to convey more than just an auditory experience. The star mau5trap recruit is putting forward perhaps her most technically ambitious collection to date, marked by a boundary-pushing virtual reality component to the release. So it only makes sense that the EP’s official listening party would also be hosted in VR, so the masses can join in for a virtual first listen of REZZ’s latest.

In conjunction with The Wave XR and Strangeloop, each track on Beyond The Senses was made alongside a VR counterpart. On July 23, each of the EP’s VR worlds will be brought together for a stream of the concert that all fans are invited to join.

The listening party will go live at 3:00 p.m. PST (6:00 p.m. EST, 11:00 p.m. GMT). The live VR listening party will be available for viewing in virtual reality or via the PC desktop app on Wave, Oculus, or listeners can tune in live via Facebook, Youtube, or Twitch.

Independent Canadian label Monstercat celebrated its eighth birthday on July 1, tipping its hat to the countless releases and experiences it’s been able to provide since 2011. This year is particularly special, though. The label has just announced a massive partnership with social virtual reality company Sansar and looks to bring VR to its music, live concerts, and gaming.

The adventure officially begins with Monstercat: Call of the Wild Experience on July 12. The three-hour inaugural event will consist of an “epic virtual bash” to celebrate the label’s eighth anniversary, featuring more than a dozen Monstercat artists.

But that’s not all. The Call of the Wild Experience will continue each Wednesday, as the label begins to host its weekly radio show in Sansar. Fans can tune in each Wednesday at 1 p.m. PT. Going forward, the partnership will give Monstercat the ability to hold virtual concerts, meet-and-greets, fan quests, giveaways, and more.

“We’re offering our fans something truly unique in the [Call of the Wild Experience] their own space to meet, connect and share creative ideas with each other,” Dan Scarcelli, head of programming at Monstercat, said in a press release. “Social VR has the power to transform how communities gather online, and we’re thrilled to be leading the charge with Sansar.”

Ahead of the opening, fans are encouraged to check out the Call of the Wild Lobby, where they can start special quests, earn prizes, and unlock hidden clues about the July 12 lineup. Free and premium tickets are on sale here.

REZZ signals new EP with smoldering new single, ‘Dark Age’

REZZ signals new EP with smoldering new single, ‘Dark Age’Rezz 2017 Cr Bryan Dellosa Billboard 1548

Canadian spider queen of unearthly mid-tempo, REZZ is ushering in news of a brand new EP with an ominous-as-ever offering, “Dark Age.”

The impending EP, entitled Beyond The Senses, is due July 24, with a number of featured guests on the six-track roster, including repeat sonic accomplice, Deathpact. The multi-track release supersedes her Certain Kind Of Magic LP of 2018 and Mass Manipulation album of the year before, both housed by mau5trap. However, the forthcoming EP will receive an AWAL issue.

“This EP exudes more depth in my songs’ melody and structure,”
REZZ said in a recent release. “It also introduces new types of vocals which I haven’t worked with in the past.”

Beyond The Senses will prove empirically enticing on all cylinders, with each track bringing with it a virtual reality component, hosted through The Wave XR and Strangeloop.

The new low-lit single serves as a cogent harbinger for the EP itself, as it echoes REZZ’s longstanding affinity for witchy fellow Canadian act, Metric, with its haunting guitar interludes and balefully ominous allure. REZZ’s irrefutable charm lies in her ability to oscillate between ostensibly tender synth displays and striking bass, with equally impactful rhythmic arrangements.

REZZ is set to hit the ground running May 18 at EDC Las Vegas with droves of new music in tow. The new EP is available for pre-order through Apple Music, here.

New technology allows users to ‘feel’ objects present in augmented reality

This post was originally published on this site

As virtual reality progresses and proliferates, a variety of tech startups have begun experimenting with the applications that VR might have on senses other than just sight.

One such disruptive technology has been brought forward by Ultrahaptics, that uses ultrasonic waves to allows users to “feel” and “touch” objects that are present in virtual reality landscapes, but physically absent.

The new tech was introduced to audiences in Berlin, Germany, where Ultrahpatics’ CTO Tom Carter fittingly demonstrated how the technology could make users feel Star Wars’ famous Jedi “force,” synced to a lightsaber sound and animation of crackling energy on a poster for the upcoming film Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

While the idea is still under development, Carter envisions the technology to have extensive use in the automobile industry, especially in delivering non-distracting information to vehicle drivers.

The Glad Scientist releases album made entirely in VR

Ever wonder what it would be like to peer over the top of Mount Everest? What about walking through a tribal village in the year 3600 B.C? VR has the power to do just that —through technology, programmers allow users to perceive distinct realities through the lens of their own subjective consciousness. It was only a matter of time before electronic musicians began to get their hands on VR technologies and utilize it in increasingly innovative ways. For instance, LCD Soundsystem recently previewed the launch of their new VR experience, ‘Dance Tonite’ and Boiler Room and Google have partnered on their very own VR nightclub.

On the release of their debut album, バーチャルボーイ(Virtualboy), The Glad Scientist experiments with the foundational aspects of VR music production — navigating a technologically constructed space in order to create masterful electronic tracks. Over seven full length tracks, The Glad Scientist constructs unique sonic worlds with distinct personalities, each with their own characteristic texture. Some tracks are ethereal and airy — full of ambiance — others offer moody techno sequences that grow increasingly complex, ultimately fizzing into a droning haze. The Glad Scientist’s debut VR album is an audacious effort to fuse VR capabilities with EDM production, and the final outcome reflects their noteworthy artistic ingenuity.
