Rezz Releases Collaboration with Underoath “Falling”

Rezz revealed at the beginning of June that she would be releasing a collab with rock band Underoath called “Falling”. Now, the time has finally come and we have not only the single, but a music video for the track as well. The track perfectly combines Rezz’s signature synths with Underoath’s vocals and rock sound.

REZZ‘ latest installment from her EP Beyond the Senses comes in the form of an electro-inspired collaboration with metal band Underoath. True to form, the song is a midtempo steamroller riddled with heavy bass. However, “Falling” is ultimately a departure from the typical REZZ style in that her collaboration with Underoath and the addition of lyrics through the entirety of the song give the track a more punk-rock feel.

At this year’s EDC Las Vegas, REZZ debuted the track with Underoath’s drummer, Aaron Gillespie. The trend of live instruments on stage during DJ sets is gaining momentum, and this collaboration of metal and electronic was a delicious success. “Falling” seems a celebratory blend of headbanging through the ages laced with that dark REZZ signature.

All paths lead to success for REZZ, as the release of “Falling” comes after her “Dark Age” (also from Beyond the Senses) was featured on NBA finals promo video. The DJ has been on a hot streak since she stepped on the scene and only seems to be accelerating.

Good Morning Mix: REZZ’s supernatural set at EDC Las Vegas 2019

REZZ put her transcontinental cult (and undoubtedly a few unsuspecting victims) in a beautifully bemused trance this past May at the annual Las Vegas installment of Electric Daisy Carnival.

This particular witching hour is full of unearthly surprises, like warped bludgeons of wonky, free-form bass, titillating transitions (see Linkin Park “One Step Closer” into “Alien,” near the midpoint) even a nasty dose of drumstep. And you can bet your bottom dollar it’s a real REZZ riot when you hear the crowd sing along to the lyric-less, diabolical bass rhythm of “Edge.”

REZZ also took the opportunity to invite Underoath drummer/vocalist Aaron Gillespie, whom she’s formerly expressed interest in working with, onstage to perform their forthcoming collaborative track, “Falling.” The unreleased song appears on the official tracklist for REZZ’s impending EP, Beyond The Senses.

Kayzo has come full circle on his latest release, linking with veteran metal band, Underoath on a new single, “WASTED SPACE.” The track’s cutting vocals are accompanied by running guitar that quickly dives into full screamo territory. Punk-inspired percussion elements build the anticipation, culminating in headbang-primed guttural screams from Underoath’s lead vocalist Spencer Chamberlain. The complementary nature of bass music and post-hardcore rock create an ideal crossover environment for the unadulterated dance-punk mayhem that Kayzo crafts on his latest.

The Florida-native metal titans were an inspiration to a younger Kayzo during his days as a hockey player. Says Kayzo,

“When I was  told  of  the  opportunity  to  work  with  Underoath,  it  brought  me  back  to my  hockey  days  prior  to  music.  Their album They’re  Only  Chasing  Safety was  on  heavy  rotation  for  me  during my  athletic  career.”

The new single follows Kayzo’s “FAKE FAKE FAKE,” which features the emo stylings of Italian punk rock band XO Sad. The Icon Collective graduate was also enlisted by Papa Roach to do a re-work to their massively popular, “Last Resort,” earlier this year, and reps for the Houston-born DJ suggest Kayzo has a lot more rock-influenced electronic material in the chamber.
