One of the best tracks off Charli’s Pop 2 mixtape (our fourth favorite release of 2018) is its tasty closer, “Track 10.” But HEY LISTEN: did you know it was actually a remix of a then-unreleased song, “Blame It On Your Love”? Well, ya do now if you didn’t, because today sees the release of the “original” song, with Charli once again hooking up with production team Stargate (+ additional help from A. G. Cook and EASYFUN) and Lizzo for a verse. Don’t you just wanna drink ‘em up?

Netsky thrills with end-of-year ‘Abbot Kinney’ EPNetsky Abbot Kinney Ep

Netsky has spent 2018 flexing the full range of his production capabilities, demonstrated in the monstrous success of tracks like “Téquila Limonada” and “Ice Cold.”

Netsky puts a cap on 2018 with just one more surprise: a five-track EP called Abbot Kinney. The EP features collaborations with Stargate and 1991, along with features from KyleToulouse, and Jozzy. The EP sees Netsky step away from drum & bass for a bit to focus on a compilation of lighthearted, pop-leaning tracks. Abbot Kinney‘s tracks still utilize powerful elements of today’s electronic music, with “Nobody” featuring heavily vocoded vocals and a hefty trap beat, and “Anything 4 U” taking on a swanky anthemic feel. The EP shows there’s no slowing Netsky down, no matter what he’s producing.

2019 promises to be even more exciting for the Belgian producer, with the release of his Palmtrees & Powerlines project forthcoming.

The most important day of every week: New Music Friday. As each week brings a succession of new music from some of electronic music’s biggest artists, here’s a selection of tracks that shouldn’t be missed.

A groovy introduction transforms Kungs and Stargates’ newest release, “Be Right Here,” and added electronic elements give the catchy release a new twist thanks to remixer Wax Motif.

Swedish trio BROHUG is out with a release for Spinnin’ Records, “The Hunt.” With its intense energy and kicking chords, this new track’s eerie atmosphere is sure to thrill and excite.

Sofi Tukker have followed up their 2017 Portuguese Treehouse track “Energia” with a “Parte 2,” featuring Pabllo Vittar. “Energia- Parte 2” is an infectious track — also in Portuguese, like its predecessor — that can only be described as dance-inducing.

Roger Sanchez and Park & Sons transport listeners into the disco era with groovy new track featuring commanding vocals from Julie McKnight titled “This Feeling.”

Commercial house meets experimental soundscaping in this genre-bending release by Friend Within titled “The Truth.” Friend Within blends a groovy bassline and bright horns with catchy vocals in his new Toolroom release.

Instead of adding a hard drop and intense synth layers as many remixers do with radio-crossover releases, AmPm has lowered the BPM of Nicky Romero‘s collaboration with Taio Cruz, and added melodic moments to give the release a calming effect.

Klingande takes listeners on an indie-electronic journey with Broken Back. With its silky-smooth vocals and laid-back beat, “Wonders” proves summer never has to end.

Sultan + Shepard never cease to surprise with their experimentation across genres and sound design. Their take on Fatboy Slim‘s “Gangster Trippin” will keep a club going until the early hours of the morning, thanks to its high-energy house chords layered over the original 1998 vocals.

The Him have skewed pop with their latest, “Nothing On Us.” It opens with catchy harmonized vocals that lead into bright piano melodies and a cheery house drop.

VALENTINE and West1ne team up for “Backpack,” which effortlessly fuses calming energy with a sizable dose of bass.

While not the usual suspect for electronic music lovers, MOD SUN has infused polarizing future bass chords into the drop of new release, “Burning Up.”

Belgium’s Netsky is full of surprises.

Though he’s perhaps best known for drum & bass works like “Rio” and his remix of Rusko‘s “Everybody,” the producer has demonstrated time and time again that he’s just as skillful at producing in other genres, as well. (“Puppy,” anybody?)

On Aug. 10, Netsky surprised fans with a bright, Caribbean-inspired collaboration with A.CHAL, “Téquila Limonada.” With a merry piano melody and laidback vocals from A.CHAL, this latest venture is one of the producer’s catchiest releases to date.

With the release of “Téquila Limonada,” Netsky also announced a new partnership with superstar producers, Stargate. Palmtrees & Powerlines, a collaborative project between the Belgian producer and Norwegian duo, is the result of eight months in the duo’s studio in Venice, California.

“I’ve set some big goals for myself, and I’m excited to now have such an ambitious team behind me to help achieve them,” Netsky said in a press release. “We’re kicking off with ‘Téquila Limonada’ and I’m so happy to have collaborated with A.Chal on this record. Proud to start this new relationship with a song that feels like the beginning of a new era for me.”

Stargate’s Tor Hermansen also shared his excitement for the new effort, calling Netsky a “true innovator.”

“[Netsky’s] always true to himself, never one to copy, steering clear of cliches,” Hermansen says. “We’ve been lucky enough to work with Boris both in the studio and on stage where he’s a true force and a real friend. There are big things ahead for Netsky.”

Even if you don’t think you know Stargate, you definitely know Stargate. Tor Erik Hermanse and Mikkel Storleer Eriksen, the Norwegian-born, Los Angeles-based songwriting and production duo who go by Stargate, have been behind a whole bunch of American pop hits since breaking into the industry in the early 2000s — Beyoncé’s “Irreplaceable,” Rihanna’s “Rude … More »
