As we head into day 2 of Ultra Music Festival, everyone is speculating who will be returning at Ultra Music Festival 2018 as this year’s special guest. In fact, last night we asked the attendees who they believe will be the special guest: 80% said Swedish House Mafia, and 20% said Daft Punk. Rumors are

The speculation surrounding a Daft Punk reunion on the final day of Ultra Music Festival has continued to mount since the iron-on patches enclosed in the Ultra 20 ticket canisters originally spawned speculation that Daft Punk would close out the festival. A SoundCloud upload entitled “x” by a “User19972001200420132019” has made its way to the r/daftpunk, and despite some Redditors’ doubts, many believe the track to be an “unconfirmed leak” of some kind. The moderators of the subreddit reportedly know the source of the “leak” and have determined that the SoundCloud post could be legitimate.
User19972001200420132019’s supposed leak has since been compared to a previous “leak” of “Overnight,” a single that Daft Punk released in 2017. Redditors have also questioned the significance of the username. Some perceive the series of numbers to be arbitrary, whereas other have suggested that the years represent album release dates.
The SoundCloud post surfaces — for now — as a connection to a possible Daft Punk anniversary performance at Ultra Music Festival that is tenuous at best.

The three iron-on patches that Ultra Music Festival ticket holders received in their special edition black and orange 20th anniversary canisters appeared in addition to ear plugs and temporary tattoos. Presumed to be innocuous party favors provided in honor of the milestone birthday celebration, the patches elicited minimal attention from pass purchasers prior to Ultra’s provocative tweet on March 10.
soooo has anyone taken a close look at the #ULTRA20 patches we sent?
— Ultra Music Festival (@ultra) March 11, 2018
Ticket holders have since begun to interpret the three patches enclosed within each ticket canister as emblematic of the three unannounced acts that will close each respective day of the festival this year. The analysis has led several aspiring attendees to evaluate the circular patch with a singular dot as evidence that deadmau5, whose eye matches the design of the patch, will deliver the ending performance to the first day of Ultra.
The theory that Swedish House Mafia will give a reunion performance at “Ultra 20” on March 24, 2018 — four years to the day of the mega group’s previous closure of the festival — is convincingly supported by fans’ conjecture that the three dots on the flag-shaped patch stand in for the three members of the trio. Fans have read the patch’s two additional dots as signifiers that Swedish House Mafia will close day two.
The final, and inarguably the most explosive conjecture, rests in the identity of the third patch, an astronaut holding up three fingers. From the white and orange/gold color scheme to the astronaut logo itself, ticket holders have analyzed the third patch as proof that Daft Punk will make a landmark return to close out Ultra’s last day on March 25.
However far-fetched or plausible the speculations seem, good guesses will remain just that — good guesses — until festival organizers release the final phase in Ultra’s bombshell lineup.

Reddit user ‘smallgoblin’ has ascended to Reddit royalty after posting a video clip that shows the user converting the movie series’ ‘Cantina Theme’ into a mathematical equation.
“It started with x+4…and I couldn’t unhear it,” smallgoblin wrote of the experiment, “Instead of doing my math homework I figured out what the Cantina Theme would sound like if your instrument was a pencil.”
The formulaic result would be x + 4783 – x + 4v|VE| (x + 4)(f – 711) = A, an answer that when worked through comes out to be ~299,792,457, or in other words, the speed of light, when measured in meters per second.
Smallgoblin’s post has since become the fifth most-upvoted post of all time in the history of the Star Wars subreddit.
If you follow anyone who enjoys bass music on Twitter, you have probably noticed some serious anger around Bassnectar’s NYE set. For many it seemed to be to far into the hip hop paradigm to be enjoyable. Many others had issues with the amount of ‘overdoses’ and how the venue apparently ran out of water.

The people of r/EDM have spoken.
As streaming platforms like Spotify compile end of year playlists comprised of the year’s most popular dance tunes, so too does Reddit‘s electronically focused r/EDM subreddit. The subreddit has produced a list of 2017’s “Highest Rated” songs, albums and EPs, and throwback posts, using user submitted Reddit ‘up-votes’ to calculate the year’s crowd favorites.
The democratic approach sees Reddit visitors elect The Chainsmokers & Coldplay‘s “Something Just Like This” as the highest rated song of the year with 497 votes. The full list features a total of 30 tracks, with Skrillex‘s remix of “Humble” registering in second place with 443 votes, and Illenium‘s “The Sound of Walking Away” weighing in at third with 373 points. Kygo, Martin Garrix, Marshmello, and ODESZA likewise rank, speaking to a resurgence of preference for mainstream releases among voting Reddit users. Porter Robinson‘s opaque Virtual Self alias charts twice on the highest rated list for “Eon Break” [303 points] and “Ghost Voices” [245 points], reflecting a general fondness of the DJ’s new pet project. Virtual Self’s eponymous EP is duly noteworthy for its placement as fourth on the subreddit’s grouping of the highest rated albums and EPs.
Reddit voters exhibit a collective inclination towards ODESZA‘s A Moment Apart, the platform’s top voted album of a total of ten albums/EPs with 561 points. Avicii’s Avīci EP receives the second most votes at 528, while Illenium’s sophomore album attracts the third most, earning 441 for Awake. Kaskade‘s debut seasonal album, Kaskade Christmas also emerged as a highly celebrated release, securing the eighth spot on the list.
r/EDM’s Highest Rated Throwback Posts category is as selective, as the subreddit’s Highest Rated Albums/EPs section, made up of only ten tracks. A testament to the memorable quality of Porter Robinson’s original productions, “Language” sits at the top of the list, likely gaining newfound popularity in the wake of Robinson’s foundation of Virtual Self. Skrillex’s Scary Monsters & Nice Sprites EP claims the succeeding position, while Justice‘s “Cross” follows.
The publication of the subreddit’s statistics has elicited a variety of responses from r/EDM users, with some finding the results to be an “expected” but paltry reflection of the year’s most widely acclaimed electronic releases, whereas others alternatively identify the lists as those that are accurate in their identification of listeners’ dance preferences this year. While the findings are indicative only of the listening trends of those that voted, the charts denote just where voters’ fan favorites were concentrated, with the utmost transparency nonetheless.
