Surprise: Flying Lotus drops off seven new tracks

Flying Lotus is exactly the type of artist to drop off seven new tracks just for the heck of it. When you have a gross film that amounts to massive walk-outs, you pretty much have the green light to do whatever you want after that, and so he has.

FlyLo has dropped off seven new tracks on his SoundCloud channel. Six soundtrack the animated short film, Blade Runner Black Out 2022, a short film that was released in conjunction with last year’s sci-fi reboot of Blade Runner 2049The seventh, “Choo Choo,” is a chilling collaboration with Miguel. “Choo Choo” is reportedly an “unused cue” from the upcoming Eddie Alcazar-directed sci-fi flick, Perfect, which is premiering at SXSW.

While all seven are cinematically inclined segments of atmospheric, neo-noir-tinged music, the greatest excitement these tracks allude to are the endless sonic possibilities FlyLo is so evidently capable of exploring in the future.

Flying Lotus soundtracked a new Steven Soderbergh produced sci-fi flick

Dubbed the “poster boy of the Sundance generation” by film critic Roger Ebert, producer and director Steven Soderbergh is widely recognized as one of the most innovative film makers of the 21st century. Soderbergh is widely recognized for his versatility — he often assumes multiple roles on a film set — and unique visual style. His newest project, for which he serves as executive producer, is Perfect, a sci-fi film set to premiere at SXSW next month.

For his latest shift in style, Soderbergh tapped experimental producer Flying Lotus to compose the film’s soundtrack.

“A boy in a cold and stark modern house,” reads the film’s official description on SXSW‘s website. The statement continues, “in a vaguely science fictional world, is seduced by advertisements of perfection to install implantable characteristics directly into his body. The implants heal his dark, twisted visions, but come with a corporeal cost. He persists on applying them, hoping to reach perfection, but ultimately he discovers that purity of mind is not exactly as he’s imagined.”

With the inventive Soderbergh orchestrating production and Flying Lotus lending his musical hand to the film, it’s certainly not one to miss.

Behold, The World’s First ‘Acoustically Perfect’ Venue

Hamburg, Germany’s Elbphilharmonie is Earth’s most “acoustically perfect” manmade structure. In fact, the only imperfections of the auditorium will be the reason for its existence: people. The exquisitely designed, $843 million building was planned by Swiss architectural firm Herzog & De Meuron, along with One to One Studio and the help of various engineers.

Not only has the geometry of the space been carefully considered, but the materials in its construction have also been scrutinized to provide the perfect atmosphere. There are three concert halls in the Elbphilharmonie, but the central auditorium is by far its most grand.

Audiences will be limited to the auditorium’s 2,150 seats, gorgeously adorned with the light of 1,000 hand-blown glass light bulbs, but most impressively, the room’s 10,000 panels are each uniquely formed from gypsum fiber according to parametric design using algorithms which denote the ideal form of an object. It’s these very algorithms which give the auditorium such a fluid, spacefaring appearance like something you’d see in The Fifth Element.

“The 10,000 panels feature one million ‘cells’—little divots that look like someone used a seashell to carve out a chunk of material. These cells, which range anywhere from four to 16 centimetres across, are designed to shape sound within the auditorium. When sound waves hit a panel, the uneven surface either absorbs or scatters them. No two panels absorb or scatter sound waves alike, but together they create a balanced reverberation across the entire auditorium.” – Wired

Listen To Porter Robinson & Madeon’s Brand New Collaboration

This post was originally published on this site

It’s something that’s been fantasized about for years now… Madeon & Porter Robinson. Two of the most eclectic, beautiful, and forward-thinking artists in electronic music. Whether a joint tour or a collaboration, fans have been clamoring for something to grasp onto.

Finally, that day has come.

Two hours ago, the Porter Robinson subreddit exploded as a user posted an iTunes link. The source? A Porter Robinson and Madeon collaboration entitled “Shelter.” Listening to it, it is exactly what you would expect a Porter Robinson and Madeon collaboration to sound like: beautiful chord progressions and crisp drum work, legitimate song writing in electronic form.

Porter Robinson dropped his defining album Worlds in 2014, and Madeon followed up with Adventure in early 2015. Since then both artists have been reluctant to release new work, though both have been seen on tour dropping new edits and clips of new material. Still, this is the first new track from either artist following their respective debut albums, and we’re absolutely beside ourselves with excitement. Seriously, I’m shaking.

The track was quickly leaked and now it is literally everywhere. With respect to the artists, we will not post the download link to the leak, though it isn’t all that hard to find anyhow.

The iTunes link has since been removed, probably since it was made public early before either artist had a chance to announce it, but you can listen to an early rip of the track below.
