Seven Lions‘ most recent release recruits Crystal Skies for a collaboration that has long been a staple of Seven Lions’ live sets: “Sojourn.” The melodic joint product is out now via Seven Lions’ own imprint, Ophelia Records, which has previously hosted several Crystal Skies productions in the past, like “Carbon” and “Never Change.” Streaming the track proves an experiential endeavor for the listener, as Seven Lions and Crystal Skies guide the listener through a lush cacophony of high energy synths, which comprise the single’s opening.

The bed of synths mounts with upbeat optimism, to develop into a spirited drop that unexpectedly plunges deeper, to permit growling dubstep to enter the musical picture. Dubstep, however, is not the sole subgenre that Seven Lions and Crystal Skies engage in “Sojourn.” The sonic progression of “Sojourn” takes a psytrance turn before gently fading out, in what is a blissfully soft landing for the animated showing.

It’s been a few years since Seven Lions and Kill The Noise have gotten together for a collaboration, but they’ve brought that lull to an end with the release of “The Blood” on Seven Lions’ Ophelia Records.

Inspired by their favorite video game, “Bloodborne,” the duo have created a genre-bending amalgamation of psy-trance and dubstep, furiously pounding out everything from delicate piano melodies to intense seas of heavy bass. The racing BPM of the psy-trance segments crash dramatically into waves of churning dubstep, appropriately showing off just what these two lauded producers are capable of when they put their minds together.

They last teamed up on “Cold Hearted,” which was released via Monstercat in late 2017. The track twisted Seven Lions’ melodic tendencies with Kill The Noise’s heavy ones, thrilling fans of both artists. Both their old and new collaborations showcase the power of a melody—and the endless opportunities of what can be built around it.

DJ duo Crystal Skies, comprised of Britian Holcomb and Aaron Dawson, have made their debut on Seven LionsOphelia Records with the release of the single “Never Change,” and the B Side, “Carbon.”

“Never Change” opens with sultry vocals featuring Gallie Fisher. The track seamlessly emulates Seven Lions’ signature style with its melodic bass breaks juxtaposed with ethereal vocals. The track finds a way to stand out amidst the clutter of what is now an overdone “melodic bass” category, thanks to a catchy spark that keeps the tune in the listener’s head far after the song’s conclusion.

Their second release, which has come out alongside “Never Change,” is much darker in nature and features pulsing dubstep notes and a monstrous undertone that rises and falls as the song progresses.

Crystal Skies have proven they are a duo to take note of, and with a strong start on Ophelia Records, there will likely only be more to expect from the artists in the year to come.

In October of 2018, Seven Lions teamed up with SLANDER and Dabin to release blissful single, “First Time,” on Seven Lions’ imprint Ophelia Records. Dylan Matthew is the vocalist on the original track, and he has come forward with his own acoustic version of the song, showcasing the beautiful melody in a new light.

Matthew gives his stunning vocals the spotlight, filtering out the electronic elements in favor of powerful piano melodies that serve as the perfect complement to his vocals. He has also ensured that there will be no questioning his talent thanks to the fact that he live recorded the music video for the release featuring simply himself playing the piano. “First Time” was not the singer’s first electronic collaboration, having previously worked with ARMNHMR and Nolan van Lith on “Alone” in addition to SLANDER and Kayzo on release “Without You.”

Seven Lions continues to captivate with a shimmering new collaboration with Wooli and Trivecta titled “Island.” Nevve, a proven vocal talent with multitudes of top charting collaborations under her belt, lends her vocals to what shapes up to be an inspiring listen.

“Island” open with Nevve’s vocals and light progressions that dance around each other until swelling into an ethereal dubstep crescendo that leaves listeners feeling like they’re soaring. The smooth and melodic moments of the introduction ultimately twist into unexpected heavy dubstep chords about halfway through the track, where cutting synths pierce through the lighter notes and overtake the vocals. “Island” finds a way to meld blissful yet abrasive melodic dubstep elements together — a tough task for many, but one that Seven Lions has mastered. The release is out now on the producer’s own label, Ophelia Records.
