Seven Lions’ stock of striking melodic bass showings rises once again with the release of “Only Now.” The producer’s first solo single since 2018’s “Start Again,” “Only Now” follows a stream of collaborative efforts, the most recent of which saw Seven Lions position his electronic sensibilities among those of Jason Ross on the Emilie Brandt-assisted “Known You Before.”

The emotive, psytrance-charged production sources ethereal vocals from Tyler Graves, whose seemingly boundless soprano range rises in tandem with the track’s upward racing chords. The psytrance bent of the production is most apparent at “Only Now’s” opening, where Seven Lions slowly builds the climactic framework of the Ophelia release. Bass is inextricable from Seven Lions’ sonic approach, and this stylistic hallmark holds on “Only Now.” The single will be a lively new addition to Seven Lions’ many festival sets, such as Ubbi Dubbi and Anjunabeats Elevations.

Dexter’s Beat Laboratory is a weekly collection of songs from DA managing editor Robyn Dexter. With a taste that can only be described as eclectic—to say nothing of a name that lends itself to punnery—DA is happy to present a selection of tracks personally curated by Dexter for your listening pleasure.

Degs and Unglued have teamed up to bring a collaborative effort to Hospital Records: “Levitate Your Mind.” This fast-paced drum ‘n’ bass tune features soulful vocals and fun variation in rhythm over the course of the song’s four minutes. It has an funky retro atmosphere to it, drawing the listener in from the first rapid notes.

After releasing his debut solo album in 2019, M Machine member Luttrell burst into the new decade with guns blazing. He’s gearing up for the release of his sophomore effort, Lucky Ones, due out March 13, and has blessed the music world with the LP’s first single: “My Friend The Sun.” The song features an energetic vocal that propels it forward, making for a stunning debut from the upcoming album.

Speaking of upcoming albums, Jason Ross has a thing or two on his radar. The producer’s new album arrives Jan. 24 via Seven LionsOphelia Records. He’s tapped the vocal talents of Dia Frampton for new release “1000 Faces,” and the result is an emotive journey. “Dia has been one of my favorite people in this industry since the first time we talked, right after I remixed her track with Illenium,” Ross says in the track’s description. “The moment I heard this vocal, I was blown away and knew we had a big one on our hands.”

Though it appears to have been out for several months, Sofi Tukker‘s “Swing” just appeared as a new song at the top of my SoundCloud feed. As always, this creative duo has crafted something in a league of its own. “Swing” takes the listener on a venture (mainly in Portuguese) from orchestral elements to a chanted verse from Brazilian poet Chacal.

Lane 8‘s long-awaited Brightest Lights has finally arrivedits 13 tracks filled with luminous and relaxing energy. A clear standout is “The Flood” with Nevve. Featuring a gorgeous drifting melody, heart-wrenching vocals, and a mellow beat, this song serves as a shining example of some of Lane 8’s best work.

The latest delivery from Seven LionsOphelia Records has arrived, courtesy of label mainstays Jason Ross and Dabin. The two powerhouses have tapped the vocal talents of Dylan Matthew, and the three artists mesh perfectly on “One That Got Away.”

The single drips with emotion from the get-go, debuting with a delicate guitar melody and opening lines from Matthew. With its slightly wistful feel and nostalgic vocals from the singer, “One That Got Away” proves to be a stellar addition to all artists’ discographies.

Jason Ross has been hard at work on his first studio album, set to make its debut on Ophelia Records. Dabin recently released “Hero” with Said the Sky and Olivver The Kid, and Matthew’s latest project was an acoustic rendition of his track, “Sober.”

Since Seven Lions founded Ophelia Records in 2018, the massive dubstep producer has relentlessly curated the highest echelon of releases. Now, he has recruited two of the bass world’s most exciting acts to usher in the latest Ophelia release, “Another Me” featuring Dylan Matthew. Teaming up with mainstay Excision on his debut Ophelia appearance and “Island” collaborator Wooli, Seven Lions succeeds in pushing the full dynamism of the trifecta’s creative force in “Another Me.”

Fusing emotionally charged melodies, open-hearted vocals, and thundering bass, “Another Me” incorporates each producer’s stylistic production voice into one diversified listening experience. Beginning with a flowing vocal-based verse, the track amps up to two drops—one for the melodic senses and the other for the bass-loving souls. Trading off cascading synths and celestial strings for chaotic licks and buzzing bass, the collaboration’s grandiose soundscape has something for everyone in store.

Seven Lions and Crystal Skies coalesce on ‘Sojourn’

Seven Lions‘ most recent release recruits Crystal Skies for a collaboration that has long been a staple of Seven Lions’ live sets: “Sojourn.” The melodic joint product is out now via Seven Lions’ own imprint, Ophelia Records, which has previously hosted several Crystal Skies productions in the past, like “Carbon” and “Never Change.” Streaming the track proves an experiential endeavor for the listener, as Seven Lions and Crystal Skies guide the listener through a lush cacophony of high energy synths, which comprise the single’s opening.

The bed of synths mounts with upbeat optimism, to develop into a spirited drop that unexpectedly plunges deeper, to permit growling dubstep to enter the musical picture. Dubstep, however, is not the sole subgenre that Seven Lions and Crystal Skies engage in “Sojourn.” The sonic progression of “Sojourn” takes a psytrance turn before gently fading out, in what is a blissfully soft landing for the animated showing.
