Damn, it’s been hot. Hot enough to make the phrase Hotter Than July seem like an impossibility, hot enough to rewire the entire idea of what “normal” heat is, hot enough to send Greta Thunberg on an intercontinental mission to get Anyone to do Anything about this godforsaken state of things. More »
The most important day of every week: New Music Friday. As each week brings a succession of new music from some of electronic music’s biggest artists, here’s a selection of tracks that shouldn’t be missed.
Daktyl enlists MOONZz and lets his creativity run wild on “Weather.”
For the kids: Jonas Blue taps the former Vine stars, Jack & Jack, for the bright and bouncy “Rise.”
Said The Sky paints cinematic soundscapes with the Matthew Koma-featured “Over Getting Over You.”
Moodymann dives deep into Detroit funk with his bass-heavy Nightmares On Wax rework.
Just A Gent traverses the interplanetary realm at light speed with Thandi Phoenix on the rave-inspired floor filler, “Space Odyssey.”
Nitro Fun gets personal on “Time Goes By,” which he says was inspired by some personal realizations about time, love, and the universe.
Ashley Wallbridge releases a trance track fit for the Greek mythology pantheon it references.
Space Laces is throwing massive elbows in sinister, cinematic track “Kaiju.”
Ookay switches lanes, and releases his first rapping foray. There’s a hot summer of hip-hop on the horizon, and if “Desperado” is any indication of where Ookay is headed, he seems sure to corral some excellence.
Defected Croatia is shaping up to be one of the year’s supreme thrills. The festival hosted more than 3,000 patrons in 2017 and, if this year’s lineup is any indication, 2018 is set to be another well-attended family affair. Complete with six immersive stages set on the Adriatic Sea from Aug. 9-14, the festival’s communal atmosphere attracts house heads from all across the globe.
With a previously announced lineup featuring Basement Jaxx, Claptone, Derrick Carter and Nightmares on Wax, the festival has now added more than 20 new acts to their bill, including Objektivity founder Dennis Ferrer, South African tribal house duo Black Motion, Soul Clap and Riva Starr, to name only a few.

If last year’s experimental event was any indication, Freestyle Sessions proved to be Bassnectar‘s most authentic, under-the-radar event of 2017 among those in his cult family following. The specially-curated trilogy featured gobs of creative genre-mashing with countless throwbacks, rare Bassnectar live edits, and the perfect blend of old school and new school.
Now Bassnectar’s Summer Gathering event returns to Broomfield, Colorado’s 1stBank Center with three zany nights of deep sonic exploration. Like last year, the three themed nights will again be slated Freestyle, Dreamtempo, and Wildstyle, with three full-power Bassnectar sets, and supporting talent to custom fit the bill’s themes — including Mala (Digital Mystikz), Russ Liquid (DJ set), The Widdler, Nightmares on Wax, CharlestheFirst, Dorfex Bos, Pendulum (DJ set), The Librarian, and Gladkill.
Pre-sale tickets go on sale at 10am MTN, Thursday, February 22nd. Public tickets go on sale Friday February 23rd.

Defected Croatia has announced their lineup for the 2018 edition of the storied festival. Set on the idyllic coast of Tisno, Croatia, the festival promises boat parties across the Adriatic sea, impromptu sunrise DJ sets, world renowned DJs, and a flock of like minded fans gathered in an intimate setting.
The festival’s lineup does not disappoint, either, with this year’s bill featuring such electronic stalwarts as Basement Jaxx, Derrick Carter, Danny Howard, Honey Dijon, Josh Butler, and Nightmares on Wax.
“Defected Croatia 2017 was a family affair;” reads the festival’s official website, “house heads of all generations and their favourite DJs [came] together as one.”
“It is a unity that continues long after people return home and eagerly plan their return this following August…”
More acts are to be announced for the festival, which will take place Thursday, August 9th — Tuesday, August 14th.
