AMTRAC‘s newest is a synth-filled sparkling venture, packed to the brim with beautiful melodies and irresistible vocals. The RCA Records venture is an impeccable combination of modern elements and nostalgic twists. It’s everything a house music fan could dream of, but it’s in a league of its own, categorized under the simple name of AMTRAC.

In early November, Grabbitz revealed his newest Ultra single: “Roam With You,” a tune soaked in emotion and vulnerability. A month later, the Brooklyn native has released a club mix of the original tune, incorporating a hastened tempo and more of notable beat in the chorus. This new interpretation opens the song up to new possibilities, making it more accessible to those crafting club sets.

Tycho‘s newest single leads to anything but its namesake: “Stress.” The relaxed single finds its place amongst the “No Stress” instrumental version and the original July release “No Stress” with Saint Sinner”—but in an unexpected way. It’s warm and breezy, embracing the listener with its enveloping synth work and dreamy melodies.

It’s been more than five years since Uppermost released the original version of “Night Walk.” But here, many years later, the artist has blessed us with a new interpretation of the track. Uppermost has reimagined the track, giving it a deeper, darker feel. It’s still the contemplative, dark piece many have grown to love—just a newer take on it.

Late last week, Matt Van released a new single, “Conifer.” The winter-ready piece took the listener inwards, encouraging them to look inward. Just one week later, Direct and Mr FijiWiji teamed up to concoct their own translation of the tune. One could argue that it’s an even more reflective construction of “Conifer,” incorporating others’ interpretations of the already-beautiful piece.

After a few days of hard-fought voting, Monstercat fans have selected their top 40 songs of 2019.

The Canadian label revealed that fans picked RIOT‘s “Blackwater” as their No. 1 song of 2019, followed by Bossfight‘s “Overdose” and Grant‘s “Wishes.” This is the second year in a row that RIOT has topped the Monstercat charts, with 2018’s “Overkill” making its mark last year. Other notable releases on the charts include Pegboard Nerds‘ “Gunslinga” and Pixel Terror‘s “Amnesia,” which follow Bossfight and Grant, respectively. Voting for the annual list opened Dec. 3 and closed Dec. 5, and fans were able to vote for up to 10 songs.

In addition to the label’s fan-voted Best of 2019 list, listeners can find Monstercat staff picks in the latest episode of Call of the Wild.

I really, really love Mamma Mia. It’s fabulous, and so is its soundtrack. In the rare moments when today’s electronic music scene acknowledges the greatness of ABBA, I rejoice. So this week, I rejoice in Kramder‘s “disco tool” edit of “Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!” It’s just way too fun.

Aero Chord‘s new EP, The Sound, arrived Sept. 12 via Monstercat, delivering four songs of broad sonic range. The collection’s title track bursts into the listeners’ ears with anthemic production, booming with powerful, trap-oriented goodness from start to finish.

Unexpected drum ‘n’ bass is the best drum ‘n’ bass. I certainly wasn’t expecting it when I saw Manic Focus had released his sixth studio album, but I was pleasantly surprised when the first track had a racing beat. “Star Sweeper” still contains many of the groovy, jammed out elements fans have come to expect from a Manic Focus track, but they’re incorporated in an unexpected way.

Duskus‘ new original is a relaxing piece, leading the listener to sonic bliss with a subdued beat and filtered vocals. The orchestral interlude brings a different form of calm, delivering an almost therapeutic sense of peace.

Direct and Matt Van are an iconic duo, consistently delivering impeccable sound design and production when they get together. Their newest, “Cold Ground,” is no different, bringing their fans a flawless, mellow experience. The artists seem to implore the listener to get lost in the passion they’ve put into their music, and it’s easy to do.

Space Laces reveals a remix package for Overdrive, featuring tunes like Gammer’s remix of “Torque,” and GTA release a formidable trap number, “FK IT.” Maduk has remixed Fox Stevenson’s “Take You Down,” and Afrojack bursts into June with “It Goes Like.” CloudNone, Direct, and Matt Van team up for “Lost and Found,” and R3HAB remixes NOTD’s “I Miss Myself.” Kaivon has put a new spin on Alison Wonderland’s “Peace,” and Duke & Jones flex their remix skills on Yellow Claw’s “Break of Dawn.” Julian Jordan keeps things grooving on “To The Wire,” and tyDi and Matt Fax have collaborated on “It’s Always Now.”

Dutch producer Maduk can usually be found creating drum ‘n’ bass or putting together incredible end-of-year mixes for Liquicity, but his latest is a bit different. He’s teamed up with NoCopyrightSounds to release his latest, “Go Home,” which kicks the BPM up to 175 and uses emotive female vocals to draw the listener in. As always, Maduk’s production is top-notch. He crafts flawless builds and drops around the vocals and again shows why he’s one of the most promising faces of today’s drum ‘n’ bass scene.

I have long enjoyed Direct‘s unique downtempo craftsmanship and was pleasantly surprised to see he’d teamed up with Telomic and Matt Van to produce a drum ‘n’ bass track for Galacy’s Identities compilation. His style of production flows effortlessly with that of dnb artist Telomic, and wistful vocals from Van complete the trifecta. Sharp percussion and anticipation-building crescendos and decrescendos give this piece a crisp feel. It’s both clean and emotive—a beautiful combo.

Mysterious producer Kuumo makes his debut on Spanish imprint Inextremis with a powerful number called “Interact.” The artist is a clear fan of Porter Robinson (he’s categorized other works as “Porterstep”) and the influences shine strongly in “Interact.” Kuumo uses vocals in multiple languages, putting glitchy effects on them amid sparkling synth melodies. He even uses a filtered guitar theme toward the end, bringing together a multitude of elements that comprise his unique style.

Wheezly’s newest release is an intergalactic drum ‘n’ bass journey. From start to finish, this piece exudes energy—often in unexpected ways. While the producer starts off with a dnb rhythm, he switches it up for an eerie, pounding bass pattern on particular drops, giving the listener an opportunity to experience the supernatural atmosphere often found at a REZZ show and a hectic dnb rave in the same song. Despite its twists and turns, “Stay Back” manages to feel cohesive and well-rounded.

For his latest release, Jason Ross has reworked a track of his own, “New Dawn.” This “club mix” of the experimental Rooms EP track is a gorgeous trance re-imagining, as Ross paints a colorful and atmospheric soundscape perfect for a late-night dance floor. Where the original “New Dawn” served as one big, beautiful build, the club mix sees Ross rework its heavenly facets into a dramatic and dynamic nightclub heater. With pounding bass and soaring melodies on the drops, the “New Dawn” club mix thrills both fans of the original and those who just can’t leave the dance floor.

Metrik has returned with his first single since September’s “Dawnbreaker” on Hospital Records. Haunting vocals rise gradually in “Hackers,” building to the racing drop. This slightly frantic-feeling four-minute journey has an almost post-apocalyptic dystopian feel to it, which makes sense more as the artist explains the background behind the tune. “I made this track to be a techy dancefloor piece exploring my Y2K cyberpunk influences,” Metrik says of the release.

Just weeks after the release of his first release in many months, “Cocaine Girl,” Goldroom has delivered yet another single, titled “Yellow Flowers.” He teams up with vocalist Mereki for the spirited tune, noting its importance to him in his production process. “This song is special to me because writing it broke me through a barrier and brought me back to my first love in dance music – French house,” Goldroom said in a tweet. “Yellow Flowers” is a sun-drenched ray of sunshine, perfect to usher dance music fans into the year’s warmer months. Mereki’s vocals complement Goldroom’s production perfectly, coming together for a groovy French house number that’s guaranteed to stay with the listener long after the beat has faded out.

It’s been 25 years since Kurt Cobain‘s death, and artists across the musical spectrum have taken time this week to honor the late great Nirvana singer. One such artist is Grabbitz, who’s released a “revival” of “All Apologies,”one of his favorites. “My childhood contained a lot of sounds, but one that will never escape me is the sound of Nirvana,” he said in his accompanying music video‘s description. “From the earliest I can remember, they’ve changed the way I look at and create music.” Grabbitz’s re-imagining of the 1993 song is raw and and emotion-soaked, with his passionate vocals soaring over the instrumentals.

Chicago native Summer Was Fun has created an homage to one of the Windy City’s most recognizable streets, Lake Shore Drive. While many of the songs under his Summer Was Fun moniker are more subdued, Summer Was Fun uses inspiration drawn from his city to explore elements of trance and future bass. Cascading melodies fall both gracefully and furiously at different drops of the tune, as the producer weaves between styles and focal points. The tune ends as it begins: with a simple, graceful piano melody.

Mr FijiWiji and Matt Van‘s new Monstercat single is the perfect note to end on. The two artists have categorized the song as “chillout,” and the description is an accurate one. With a focus on Van’s captivating harmonies to Mr FijiWiji’s top-notch production, “Enough” paints a serene soundscape of lush instrumentals and wistful vocals. These longtime collaborators have consistently made magic together over the years, from “Tomorrow” to “Andromeda” to their joint Ed Sheeran cover.

Mr FijiWiji – Reality Is More Beautiful ft Matt Van

Brendan Galdo, more widely known as Mr FijiWiji, has released the lead single, “Reality Is More Beautiful” from his upcoming album Lost Lost Lost, set for release April 20 on Spaceman Recordings.

The young producer has evolved immensely since his arrival to the electronic scene in 2011 as a precocious 15-year-old. The Fij found an early home in Monstercat just around the time of its inception. Within the Canadian label, he has continually demonstrated his all-encompassing production savvy; his discography effortlessly oscillating between dubstep and chill-out with remarkable dexterity.

“Reality Is More Beautiful” is testimony to the downtempo bliss enveloping Mr FijiWiji’s more recent release record. Matt Van lends his rousing, woeful voice to track, adding to he and The Fij’s prolific collaboration history, which includes “Andromeda,” “Dive,” and “Tomorrow.” The new track is a highly instrumental take on the producer’s characteristically ambient, dystopian sound design.
