UK officials to train bouncers, security guards to respond to terror attacks

As an effort to combat terror attacks at entertainment based events, UK authorities have declared their intent to train nightclub bouncers and security guards to respond to terror threats. While details regarding the format of the training remain unknown, the preventative instruction is timely with Britain’s threat level set at “severe” — an indication that such an attack is likely.

“Vigilance in the public space is critical, and there are many, many more private security guards out there than there are police officers,” the Metropolitan Police Assistant Commissioner noted at the National Security Summit that took place earlier this past week. “We are looking at how we can train them [security guards] more effectively to be a better part of the national armory that we have against terrorism.”

Nightclubs and concert venues have become increasingly popular targets for terrorism, with attacks carried out at an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester in May, and the Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando in 2016. Once trained, security personnel will become another line of defense in the event of a terror attack.

Sasha unveils dates for two additional ‘Refracted: Live’ UK shows, releases new single, ‘True’

This post was originally published on this site

After witnessing sell out success at London’s Barbican Hall in May, Sasha has announced two UK shows for 2018. The producer is bringing his ‘Refracted: Live’ series to The Roundhouse London on Saturday, February 17 and at Manchester’s Bridgewater Hall on Sunday, February 18. Bridgewater Hall is the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra’s primary venue, rendering Sasha’s upcoming performance all the more noteworthy.

“The moment we walked off stage at the Barbican we were saying — we have to do this again. We didn’t really have a plan in place. We had no idea the response to those shows was going to be so amazing. So this is [the newly announced dates] Round 2, and we’re getting to perform at two more iconic UK venues. We are looking to change the show slightly to incorporate some new music and make these shows as special and unique as the Barbican ones in May. We can’t wait!” – Sasha

Sasha has announced his intention to include new music and surprise guests as integral “Round 2” additions.

The Welsh producer appeared on stage alongside members of his production team, Charlie May (“Spooky”), Dennis White (“Thermal Bear”), and Dave Gardner during the Barbican shows. An 8-piece string section, live vocalists, and a percussionist rounded out the group, as Sasha played the piano and an assortment of other instruments, electronic and otherwise. The legendary performances have since been released on Blu-ray.

The additional shows would be good news on their own, but Sasha sweetened the deal pairing the announcement with a new single. Sasha’s latest is dubbed “True” and is currently available to stream ahead of its Friday, October 13 release. Featuring the London-based trio Dems, “True” is a minimalistic record whose richness lies in its otherworldly vocals and instrumental layering.

Tickets to the ‘Refracted: Live’ February shows will be available for purchase on Friday, October 13 at 10 AM.

[WATCH] Manchester hosts first learning disability rave

A Manchester charity called Manchester People First recently teamed up with club promoters Meat Free to host a rave for people with learning disabilities called Under One Roof.

BBC Stories created a short film about the July evening, showing people with learning disabilities enjoying an evening created just for them at Texture nightclub.

The three-minute video focuses on Shane, an aspiring DJ with a learning disability. He says that going to a regular rave or nightclub can be hard for people with disabilities, because “people bully you if they’ve had too much to drink.”

Fortunately, groups like Manchester People First and Meat Free are coming together to host events like this one where people with disabilities can be feel secure knowing they’re in a safe space with people just like them. It also creates a fun environment for their support workers, who can enjoy the party with the people they look after.

Alice Woods of Texture nightclub says their mission with the event is to create an “inclusive, fun environment with really good music at its core.” She said they had been looking for a way to expand that past their regular dance community and thought this would be the perfect event to add to their roster.

After the success of the first event, Meat Free posted on their Facebook page that they would be announcing their next Under One Roof party soon.
