The red-hot moombahton beats that spanned the first arm of Dillon FrancisMagic Is Real Pt. 1 have not yet cooled, and already, Francis is back with another piping production. The full-length follow up to the first installment bears the same name, but more importantly, evinces the same sonic heat as its vivacious predecessor.

Magic Is Real merges a select number of firecrackers from the past mixtape, “GO OFF (Nuthin’ 2 It),” “Bawdy,” and “Still Not Butter,” with new material, such as the Nitti Gritti-assisted “Salsabahton (Shake That Booty),” which is just as spicy in its electronic makeup as its title anticipates. The Vera Hotsauce feature, “Barely Breathing” constitutes another previously unreleased record to make the cut.

From start to finish, Magic Is Real is seasoned with the Latin flair that has long added flavor to Francis’ music. Stabbing synths and blaring, reverberating bass jointly add an additional kick to Magic Is Real. The collection possesses an explosive character comparable to TNT, as Francis once again goes off in his own idiosyncratic pomp and circumstance.

Dillon Francis has released the music video for his recent mixtape standout “Still Not Butter,” and it’s just as funny as one would expect from dance music’s premier content creator. The hilarious new visual brings back “Not Butter” director, Brandon Dermer, with a high-octane take on the superficial cell phone shopping spree era with the song’s lyrics in mind: “It looks great, it feels great, it can make anything better, put it on anything, it’s good for your skin, it’s basically the real thing; no one will know.”

This comes after the first half of Francis’ Magic Is Real mixtape, which included the inventive dance moves from “GO OFF (Nuthin’ 2 It)” and elderly people sitting on cakes in “Bawdy” featuring TV Noise and Big Freedia. The full mixtape is set for release on November 15, landing via Francis’ IDGAFOS imprint and Diplo’s Mad Decent.

Dillon Francis‘ status as one of the spunkiest acts in the electronic circle has been well-earned and cemented through a steady stream of releases that, over the years, have evidenced Francis’ capacity to think outside the box. In short, his playful personality is always alive in his music.

His catalog is consequently colored by imaginative tunes; the constituting cuts turn dance music on its head and prove infallible when it comes to eliciting the shake of the hips from streamers who bump the eccentric beats. Nothing’s different on Magic Is Real (Part 1), released jointly through Francis’s IDGAFOS imprint and Diplo’s Mad Decent label housing.

The four-cut mixtape hosts “GO OFF (Nuthin’ 2 It)” and “Bawdy,” which surfaced before the project’s debut. Magic Is (Real Part 1) is diverse: “GO OFF (Nuthin’ 2 It)’s” buoyant infrastructure allows the song to float effortlessly in line with the breezy vocal. Meanwhile, the moombahton flavor so familiar to Francis’ cornerstone sound reenters with wild spirit on “Bawdy.” Reggaeton influence is audible on “Bomboclot (Light It Up),” and not to be neglected is the heavy-handed mid-tempo heard on “Still Not Butter,” which provides the resounding finale to Magic is Real (Part 1). Dillon Francis has been a busy, busy man this summer, debuting on Monstercat and releasing a new collab what seems like every other week, all while serving as a resident DJ in Las Vegas and squeezing in a few international shows here and there.

On Aug. 28, the producer-turned-DJ-turned-infectious-internet-personality continues his hot streak with the release of the oft-teased and distinctly memorable “GO OFF (Nuthin’ 2 It).” Of course, because there’s “nuthin’ 2 it,” fans are also treated to the simultaneous drop of the song’s music video.

The new release show Francis returning to Mad Decent, the Diplo-led recording conglomerate where the California native’s ironically iconic rise began years ago. “GO OFF (Nuthin’ 2 It)” is built around its commanding vocal sample, which in itself is half sass, half soul and all Dillon, but it’s the accompanying harmonies and jukin’ bassline that give it his signature club-ready sheen.

“GO OFF (Nuthin’ 2 It)” is the first track from Francis’ upcoming Magic is Real mixtape, which will be dropping new songs every two weeks starting starting Aug. 28.
