Metal and electronic music have been colliding more and more as of late. This collision takes many different forms, including artists like Matt Lange putting their own spin on the instrumentals of a song originally fueled by rock elements. Lange has taken Periphery’s “Lune” and leaned into its subdued beauty, crafting a minimalist backbone of warped bass and a dreamy guitar melody that drifts softly throughout the course of the remix. He allows Spencer Sotelo’s vocals to take center stage in his remix and has crafted a perfect atmosphere to complement Periphery’s original.

Notaker‘s off to an incredible start of 2019. His latest, “Into The Light,” pairs beautifully with its accompanying artwork, which depicts a shadowy forest highlighted by beams of sunlight. Karra‘s heavenly vocals set the scene, leading listeners into a gradual build before dropping into a booming melodic drop. Chirping birds and atmospheric layers of synths create an environment that’s both serene and powerful, as Notaker demonstrates his strong command of sound design.

Far Out’s “Worlds Apart” is what today’s future bass wishes it could be. Much like Notaker’s “Into The Light,” Far Out assemble this dreamy soundscape slowly, building gradually with lush beds of synths, piano, and strings. One could easily mistake this for an orchestral piece until just after the minute mark, when bass and drums enter to assert their dominance. “Worlds Apart” is a world within itself, full of mystery and anthemic melodies that make this a real showstopper.

And now, for a darker turn. Krayysh returns to Mad Zoo with a positively eerie remix of Shadient‘s “Leidenfrost.” He’s been making a name for himself on the Canadian label with his shadowy creations, only stepping briefly into the light for “Talk To Me.” Overall, though, his work takes a trippy, walk-in-the-woods-at-night tone, bolstered by glitchy bass and ominous melodies. His take on Shadient follows along this creepy pathway, pummeling listeners’ ears with haunting ambiance the entire way.

In a world full of endless “Shelter” remixes, it can be difficult to stand out. But REAPER is making his mark with daunting take on the iconic Madeon and Porter Robinson track by packing it full of bass and giving it an unexpected twist toward the end. The vocals have been pitched down in a way that’s a bit menacing, making the song feel more aggressive right from the beginning. With a drum & bass switch-up that takes over the last minute of the song, REAPER makes sure this remix is unforgettable.

After months of anticipation, Gammer‘s much-hyped remix of Ran-D’s “Zombie” has finally arrived. Its comment section is full of fans saying “finally!” – and with good reason. Gammer plays up the emotive intensity of the original, which was initially performed by The Cranberries. Ran-D redid the vocals himself, and Gammer uses them to drum up anticipation for the quickly building drop. It’s ready for festival stages around the world with its energy-loaded hardcore beat.

The Lion King‘s “Circle of Life” has been making its way into the EDM scene for years. It’s popped up in Skrillex sets, been remixed by Mat Zo, and most recently, revamped by Wuki. Uploaded to his Wukileaks channel on January 10, this edit of the iconic track sees the classic introduction worked into a grooving house anthem. It’s primed for the dance floor and guaranteed to have all listeners embracing their inner “hakuna matata” attitude — even 24 years later.

Russia’s Sound Quelle was a huge presence on Silk Music’s channel in 2018, so label has kicked off their 2019 with a three-track EP from the multi-faceted artist. In the Esalia EP, he’s teamed up with Referna for tracks like “Lauria,” an ethereal deep house number rooted in an easygoing bassline and dreamy vocals. This nearly six-minute track has an otherworldly feel to it and features a minimalist synth melody that drifts in and out of progressive beat.

In their latest, Win & Woo take a journey across the pond to craft a new original, “Tea Time.” The duo have fashioned an infectious house beat around a catchy British vocal sample that declares “it’s time for tea,” making this track one of their most entertaining to date with the help of some cowbell. Win & Woo have called the track “something fun for being awesome to us in 2018,” promising even more to come in 2019.

In his debut Mad Zoo appearance, Canada’s Brock Wilson has created an intriguing and diverse two-track EP. “hollow shell” is a thrilling and slightly spooky track that showcases the artist’s curiosity and experimentation in a variety of electronic styles. From glitchy, grinding bass to an eerie, minimalist melody, Wilson shows us what he’s all about. “I’ve never really been good at making bangers or high energy songs, but I’ve always been interested in tight mixing and sound design.” It shows, in the best possible way.

Rising bass music star Krayysh is back with a unique new single called “Birds of Prey,” out now on Mat Zo‘s Mad Zoo imprint. The producer has been a mainstay on the label since its inception, maintaining a bracing, hard-edged style characterized by mind warping sound design. “Birds of Prey” double checks those boxes, but brings some seriously creative twists to the table. Krayysh’s signature bass sounds explode behind a crunchy beat that’s eons away from the breakneck pace of past releases like “Running From Death.” Squealing synths lazily ride the breakdowns, but ear slapping distortion is never far off.

Krayysh has been an absolute monster for the past year, and has received some well-earned support from industry heavyweights including Porter Robinson of of course Mat Zo’s firm co-sign. As one half of the fan-favorite electro duo The M Machine, Ben Swardlick has a catalog that has reached most electronic fans at one point or another. After nearly a decade of production and touring with partner Eric Luttrell, Swardlick has decided to take another path with his new solo project, Swardy. Under this new moniker, the artist has released his debut Here On My Own EP.

Spanning five tracks, Swardy takes a more laid-back approach to his solo work, straying away from the heavy electro builds and grinding bass characteristics of his old work. Even a track like “Ballyhoo,” which features more traditional electro percussion, diverts from any early 2010s cheesiness with an intriguing use of vocoder and overall textured production. Released on Mat Zo‘s Mad Zoo imprint, Swardy joins a cast of talented producers finding their place in the ever-changing world of electronic music.

Since its release in fall 2017, Slow Magic‘s “Wildfire” has received numerous remixes. The Float track has been flipped by the likes of Mielo, NΣΣT, and more — including the latest, from Airynore. This new rendition of “Wildfire” comes as a light, breezy song, highlighting the powerful, emotive vocals. Though the majority of the song lacks a percussion backbone, it’s illuminated by warm synths and intriguing piano melodies, making it calming and relaxing.


Monstercat mainstay Rogue has kept fans waiting since last fall for his next release — but it was worth the wait. His first release of 2018 on the Canadian label is “Mirage,” a melody-centric future bass track. The UK artist has been thrilling label listeners worldwide with his versatile production skills since 2012’s release with Tristam, “Pushed Away.” On “Mirage,” we see Rogue in his finest form: lending his own vocals over top of an irresistibly groovy synth melody.


I have Costa Rica’s Envision Festival to thank for my love and respect of Slynk. The gifted Australian producer flaunts insane mixing skills in his performances, and his original tracks are equally impressive. His latest comes from the 2018 Fractal Forest compilation and is called “Scrunched Up Faces.” This Westwood Recordings release radiates good vibes from start to finish, layered with funky guitar licks, lively flute melodies, and a substantial amount of bass along the way,


Bill Withers’ “Ain’t No Sunshine” has been remixed, covered, and redone in nearly every way imaginable. Nearly 50 years after the original’s release, artists are still drawn to its melancholy lyrics and haunting melody. Lido did a thrilling remix in 2014, and Jenaux adds his name to the list in a new cover with Andy Cooper. Jenaux’s mellow take on the iconic track is a minimalist approach, with Cooper’s vocals at center stage, backed by subtle guitar and wavy bass.


Few songs of late have matched the sheer eeriness of WAVEDASH and QUEST‘s “Devil Music.” The title track off the duo’s recent Mad Zoo EP features creepy vocals and unhealthy doses of bass, and has been remixed by label founder Mat Zo himself, along with  label mate Shadient. Shadient doesn’t stray from the sinister atmosphere of the original, using the dramatic intro as a launchpad for his own rendition. He slows the track down considerably, honing in on hefty bass and letting it truly seep into his listeners’ ears.

Swardy, half of electronic music duo The M Machine, is making his solo debut with new release, “Here On My Own.” The track is the lead single on his forthcoming solo EP, which is set to be released on Mat Zo‘s imprint, Mad Zoo.

Synthesized vocals float over a stunning electronic backdrop in “Here On My Own,” and the track perfectly channels a laid-back vibe with its groovy chords. “It means a great deal to me, and there was never any other plan — my solo project was always going to begin with this song,” Swardy says of the track.

It’s certainly a captivating debut from the producer’s solo project, and although this is Swardy’s first official original release, he’s already gotten the support of fellow producers such as Porter Robinson. After listening to the producer’s debut original track, the reason for Robinson’s support of the track and forthcoming EP quickly becomes apparent.

It’s been a little over a month since Wavedash and Quest released their Devil Music EP on Mad Zoo, and now they reveal yet another trick they’ve had up their sleeve.

After releasing a remix for “Star Power” by AWE, it turns out the pair were also able to get Mat Zo himself to remix Devil Music‘s opener, “Adagio.” The original is a cinematic piece that serves as an eerie introduction to the EP with ringing organs and gritty synths grumbling in the background.

Mat Zo adds his own kind of cinematics and gives the tune more of a retro feel as he elongates the song and creates a veritable adventure out of sounds and elegant atmospherics. With a heavy kick and stabbing synths, he casts a more cunning air into his rendition, making it feel like it belongs in a horror movie or a video game.

Mat Zo releases first track off of forthcoming house EP

Mat Zo sparked excitement in fans with the promise of new music and a house EP. Yesterday he tweeted, “I haven’t released any straight up club music in a while, so I think I’m gonna do that, maybe tomorrow. I couldn’t clear any samples in it so it’ll be free to download. I hope that’s ok with you.”

The track titled “Bad Posture” is out now, and it is available as a free download. The track showcases Zo’s diversion into a funk with an interesting house backdrop with a light and groovy chord progression. Zo commented on twitter that his inspiration for the title of the song came from his girlfriend, who came into his studio and told him to ‘sit up’ everytime he was working on the song.

“Bad Posture” will be featured on Zo’s forthcoming house EP, which is set to be released on June 14. It will come out on his own label Mad Zoo.
