Ultra Music Festival (UMF) has proven its RESISTANCE brand to be a well-oiled industrial machine that unceasingly manufactures some of the finest house and techno lineups in the modern festival circuit. The revelations of its 2019 lineup continues this process. For its 2019 edition, Ultra Miami will present the RESISTANCE concept in an unprecedented manner, devoting a considerable portion of the Virginia Key festival grounds to what UMF organizers have newly dubbed “RESISTANCE island.”

Given the artists who grace Ultra Miami’s 2019 RESISTANCE lineup, “island” is indeed an apt descriptor. UMF crafts an underground paradise of electronic sorts via live sets from Maceo Plex, Black Coffee, Sasha | John Digweed, Richie Hawtin, and Charlotte de Witte. Adam Beyer and Cirez D will link up for another installment in their mythical back-to-back format series. Eric Prydz, however, won’t be the only producer appearing under an alias–deadmau5 notably figures among the RESISTANCE lineup as Testpilot. deadmau5′ Testpilot set flanks his headlining set as deadmau5. The mau5trap label head’s headlining set that will be the platform of deadmau5’s worldwide debut of his Cube 3.0.

In the midst of RESISTANCE’s luster gleams a back-to-back Carl Cox set. Ultra maintains the mystery for now, as festival organizers currently conceal of the name of Cox’s back-to-back partner behind the decks, which Ultra will expectedly declare at a later date. Ultra Music Festival will record its inaugural edition at its new home of Virginia Key from March 29-31.

Montréal is no stranger to icy Canadian winters, but that doesn’t stop the local troops from getting down in the snow. Returning for the 13th edition of the winter event series, Igloofest has announced their annual three-weekend takeover at the city’s Old Port, welcoming all as they embark on nine evenings of frosty festivities.

As the outdoor festival officially commences Jan 17 and comes to a close Feb 2, attendees have the ticketing capabilities to frequent one, or all nights of the multi-weekend frenzy. With previous years of success establishing Igloofest as one of the most prominent electronic events in Montréal, the 2019 edition continues to impress with a large-scale list of headliners, including the likes of Diplo, Above & Beyond, and Maceo Plex as notable billings for each respective weekend. Alongside the aforementioned acts, Igloofest boasts nights that bring out a double-dose of headliners such as longstanding techno masterminds Chris Liebing and Mind Against, and heavyweight trap heads RL Grime and Baauer over the course of two nights.

While some may shy away from the idea of an outdoor winter dance party, previous years have seen as many as 120,000 bundled-up attendees flock to the venue over a single season. Winter may not seem the preferred season for festivals, but Igloofest is here to disprove that narrow notion.

GA and VIP passes for Igloofest 2019 are available for purchase here.

From releasing two EPs and remixing the legendary Blade Runner theme, to launching yet another label, Maceo Plex has had a sprawling 2018. Capping off his year with one final remix, the multifarious artist has set forth his take of Italian techno talent, Dino Lenny’s “Guilty Officer.”

Maceo Plex’s rendition is a hard-hitting take than the funky, minimal original. Lifting Dino Lenny’s vocals, Maceo Plex constructs a commanding edit full of swelling synths and old-school techno drums. Released on his own Ellum imprint, the Cuban-American producer adds yet another exciting piece of live weaponry to his already extensive catalog.

Maceo Plex launches new MPLX label for ‘personal experimentation,’ plots debut releaseMaceo Ple 2017

Maceo Plex‘s penchant for multi-label musicality has brought about a series of different Maceo Plex-headed imprints over the years, including Lone Romantic, Ellum, and Ellum’s following sub-label, Ellum Black. Now, the producer lifts the veil to introduce yet another imprint, MPLX, an obvious abbreviation of “Maceo Plex.”

MPLX will function as Maceo Plex’s exclusive “vehicle for personal experimentation.” In that vein, MPLX will only feature releases from the “Solitary Daze” producer. MPLX’s first production will be Mutant Romance, a two-track EP slated for a December 7 debut. Northeast Maceo Plex fans can catch the visionary in February, when he brings his Mosaic party series to New York. Those interested can learn more about the upcoming event, here. In the meantime, a new creative outlet for the Solar producer likely points to an influx of new experimental cuts underway.

Premiere: John Monkman – Enhancer

Premiere: John Monkman – EnhancerJohn Monkman Dancing Astronaught Prem 01

John Monkman‘s musical path has been a winding one that’s seen him touching on everything from ethereal Anjunadeep-level progressive, to big house tunes, to raunchier cuts. As he’s traveled the depths of his musicality, his sonic vision soon aligned with the Maceo Plex/Ellum camp — and has officially materialized into an EP on the imprint aptly titled Tune In, Turn On.

Its B-side, “Enhancer,” is a particularly blistering number, designed to cause tension on the dancefloor. Pitched-up arpeggios are strung together by acidic synthesizers, simultaneously catalyzing goosebumps celestial mental imagery. Meanwhile, growling notes on the low-end and driving vocal clips add a hint of shadow to the finished product, making for an intense and well-balanced track that heats up the speakers.

“Enhance” is set for a November 16 release. Pre-order a copy here.

Teksupport brings rare Maceo Plex Mosaic show stateside

Teksupport brings rare Maceo Plex Mosaic show statesideMaceo TekSupport Off Brand Project

It’s not often that Maceo Plex‘ name appears stateside; he only comes to his homeland a handful of times each year. Even rarer is his Mosaic party series, which began as a residency as Pacha but has since evolved into a global institution for the avant garde of dance music. The award-winning series has only touched down in the states a couple times.

Come February, New York City promoters Teksupport will be ushering in Mosaic‘s return stateside, this time with Helena Hauff, Axel Boman, and Danny Daze in tow. Given each artist’s reputation for defying genres and delving into the eclectic in their own unique ways, the upcoming iteration of Mosaic is primed to keep to its ethos of conjuring colorful, multifaceted nights of electronic music. The announcement follows a recent appearance by Maceo Plex in New York, in which Teksupport joined forces with streaming giant Cercle to bring him to the Hudson River. Hopefully, this signals a potential visit westward as well.
