After a glitzy seven-month run, KAOS nightclub has closed. The dual day and nightclub housed at Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas was the crown jewel of the hotel’s intensive $690 million dollar renovations.

A newcomer to Sin City’s nightlife circuit, KAOS attracted preeminent artists such as Cardi B, Skrillex, Travis Scott, and Marshmello, all of whom were featured in KAOS’ opening lineup and ad campaign in January 2019.

Red Rock Resorts, the parent company of the Palms, formally announced that it would cut the lights on KAOS on Nov. 5, due to the high costs associated with the club’s operation.

While Palms has experienced exceptional growth across both the gaming and non-gaming segments of the business, the expense side of the business has been challenging to date, due in large part to the entertainment and fixed cost structure associated with KAOS.

Therefore, we have decided to take some time to reassess the programming and use of those venues going forward.

-Red Rocks Resorts vice president, Michael Britt

Britt said Palms will continue to use the spacious 73,000 square foot dayclub, 29,000-square-foot nightclub for “private meeting space and special events, in addition to everyday resort pool operations.”

KAOS’ closure is timely: on Nov. 5, Red Rocks Resorts also reported a net income loss of $26.8 million for the third quarter of 2019. The company attributed its decline in net income to “one-time charges relating to the termination of certain artist performance agreements and employment arrangements at the Palms.” The company also cited higher depreciation and amortization relative to the Palms’ redevelopment as influencing factors in a press release.

Pasquale Rotella and Insomniac Events have joined the Hurricane Dorian effort in a vital way, transporting 750 of its Shiftpod2 Advanced Shelter Systems to Bahamas via air to help over 5,000 victims left without a home in the storm’s aftermath. The Shiftpods, which were built to withstand harsh elements including wind, rain, and excessive heat, have been used over the past couple years to house tens of thousands of EDC attendees at the Las Vegas Speedway since the festival launched its camping program.

Dorian, clocking in as a Category 5 storm, has been measured as the strongest ever to hit the Bahamas since recordkeeping began, wreaking a great deal of havoc to the Northern region of the islands and reaching its peak damage level upon its landing. 43 were recorded dead within days of the tragedy, with hundreds still missing. Insomniac Event staff members are now on ground assisting in the rebuild, where they’re expected to help set up these new shelters for residents in need.

UNICEF is currently accepting funds for hurricane relief efforts as well; head here to donate.

EDC attendee’s boyfriend charged with attempted murder after she went ‘against his wishes’Edclv 1

A Las Vegas man named Ryan Mansour has been charged with attempted murder following a dispute with his girlfriend over attending EDC “against his wishes.” According to authorities, the fight began on Tuesday after the festival when the suspect angrily left his work early to confront his significant other over pictures he found of her at the Speedway gathering. At some point amid the fighting, which also involved endeavors to throw out shared memorabilia, the girlfriend (whose name has been redacted) got into her boyfriend’s car. Upon her exit from the vehicle, he allegedly ran her over in a bout of rage.

Mansour claims the accident was unintentional, advising he wasn’t paying attention on account of his anger and that he’d “made a dumb mistake,” according to his lawyer. Immediately after noticing what he’d done, he’d immediately began to “jack the car up” to get his girlfriend out from underneath. Luckily, her life was saved; but she did sustain injuries which include skin and liver lacerations, a collapsed lung, and a broken arm, leg, and pelvis. The suspect is currently in jail with a $25,000 bail posted.
