Lapalux announces fourth studio album Amnioverse, shares single “Earth”

This post was originally published on this site

Watch out, Marvel! There’s a new competitor in the realm of commercial media universes: a newly announced album from Lapalux—secret identity Stuart Howard—called Amnioverse! But this time, instead of dusty old superheroes and zero-stakes blockbuster action, the Essex-born producer is assembling mind-warping textures, collapsible beats, and liquid vibes like we’ve never seen before (fun!). The record is out November 8 through Brainfeeder.

Amnioverse—helpfully defined by Howard as “a sort of portmanteau of the amniotic sac and the universe” —is a follow-up to 2017’s Ruinism. Each track on the album is supposedly based on and/or built around snippets of spoken word taken from “friends, lovers, and ex partners.” (Now those are ensemble antics I can get behind!) JFDR and Lilia provide vocals for three of the songs on the record.

Listen to “Earth,” the first single from Amnioverse, below, and ride on those crystalline atmospherics into the neon sunset! Also check out the full tracklisting and pre-order the record here.

Amnioverse tracklisting:

01. Oblivion
02. Voltaic Acid
03. Momentine
04. Earth
05. Hellix
06. Thin Air feat. JFDR
07. Limb To Limb feat. Lilia
08. The Lux Quadrant feat. JFDR
09. Amnioverse

Lapalux’s Stuart Howard enchants in swirling new track under LPLX alias

This post was originally published on this site

Following the release of his acclaimed third full-length Ruinism and the follow-up The End Of Industry EP shortly thereafter, Lapalux‘s Stuart Howard announced an expansive worldwide tour. Now, Howard’s returned under his LPLX alias with what’s undoubtedly his most mesmerizing music to date.

This month Lapalux returns to the U.S. with his new live setup for his first North American tour since 2016, and judging by the experimental, swirling nature of “Damson,” Howard’s mixing will be nothing short of transitory. With “Damson” he moves further through the abstraction that Ruinism cultivated. As he delves into his loosest, and yet, most poised music to date, it’s clear LPLX’s reached the pinnacle of his unhinged production air, and that surely promises nothing but exciting developments in the time to come.

Flying Lotus releases new track in year end Brainfeeder mix

This post was originally published on this site

A decade ago, Flying Lotus kicked off his independent Brainfeeder record label, where he set out to hone in on the left of center intersections of electronic music and instrumental hip-hop. Since then, the label’s signed experimental artists like Thundercat, The Underachievers, Lapalux, Mr. Oizo, and more.

Moving into 2018, Brainfeeder producer PBDY has released a new collection of Brainfeeder tracks on a new mix, Brainfeeder 2017 ∞ 2018. In it’s SoundCloud description, PBDY’s referred to it as, “A collection of Brainfeeder tracks & rarities as well as a glimpse of what’s to come in 2018.”

The 46-minute mix boasts Brainfeeder exclusives like a Lapalux collaboration with Lousiahhh, as well as work from labelmate Iglooghost, and a few Thundercat remixes. The very last track on the mix is a new instrumental number from the Brainfeeder-boss, Flying Lotus himself, entitled “Quarantine.”

“Quarantine” is a more subdued sound than Flying Lotus’s recent output, specifically the rap-centric You’re Dead! album of 2014, which featured collaborations with Kendrick Lamar, Captain Murphy, Snoop Dogg, and more. The instrumentals of the new track shine a light on the endless sonic opportunities and possible avenues for FlyLo’s new record, which he’s recently confirmed he’s currently finishing.

Lapalux – “Rotted Arp (feat. Louisahhh)”
Tierra Whack – “Mumbo Jumbo”
