As the golden EDM years fade further and further into the background, the number of artists maintaining the sensationalized, hyper-synth feel in their music is dwindling. Some might be happy this trend is on its way out. Others might be sad.

Regardless of any individual’s opinion on the inevitable shift, there is something that always rings true when the hype separates from a particular sound: the artists who stick with it do so because they love it, and Kayzo is sticking with it on his new album, Unleashed.

The young producer didn’t hold anything back on his latest LP, adopting various tempos and genres, including flecks of rock—all built on the raw energy that inspired a generation of kids to don neon furries and gauntlets of polychromatic beads. In keeping with the inclusive spirit of EDM, Kayzo tapped various collaborators for every track on the album. Literally. There is not one song without a feature. 1788-L, YULTRON, and k?d are just a few of artists who contributed their equally enthusiastic sound to the album.

Dubstep’s rockstar, Kayzo, releases another rock-fueled bass venture, “Cruel Love,” with the help of the lead vocalist from I See Stars, shYbeast, and Sum 41 drummer, Frank Zummo. The raucous offering came to fruition via a partnership between Ultra Records and Kayzo’s Welcome Records.

Knocking on the angst-ridden door of turn-of-the-century emo rock, “Cruel Love,” employs shYbeast’s sultry vocals above acoustic drum sounds and a fluttering guitar melody. Listeners are met with a bout of distortion that leads to an opening for a hyper drum buildup into gritty bass with emotive sustained notes.

Kayzo has had quite the year developing his new label and collaborating with more artists in the rock space such as Of Mice and Men, Travis Barker, Alex Gaskarth from All Time Low, blessthefall, and Our Last Night.

The Bloody Beetroots – Warp 2.019 (Steve Aoki & Kayzo Remix)Steve Aoki Kayzo Warp

The Bloody Beetroots and Steve Aoki’s “Warp 1.9” defined an era of dance music for the early adopters of the EDM boom. That familiar ticking of the clock. The thunderous synths rumbling underneath. To this day, it’s one of the most crowd igniting drops of all time. And now it has been reborn. Blessed by Steve Aoki and reconstructed by Kayzo for a twist on the classic smash that feels like an adrenaline shot straight through the sternum. Everything you loved about the OG was left intact, but it’s evolved into something much more monstrous at the hands of Kayzo. After a decade since its release, a new generation of fans are about to get their faces melted.

Kayzo releases smashing rock-electronic hybrid, ‘Up In Flames,’ featuring All Time Low’s Alex Gaskarth

Kayzo has released another rock-tinged dubstep number, “Up In Flames,” featuring pop-punk vocals from Alex Gaskarth of All Time Low. The track is accompanied by a music video directed by Yhellow, whose narrative is set to rewind while setting Gaskarth is center stage for the hooks and part of the verses. Kayzo performed the track with Gaskarth during his closing set at Coachella on April 12, along with bringing out special guests Tommy Lee, Yungblud, Grandson, and Frank Zummo from Sum 41.

“The song itself and the production behind it I think has become my best example to date of the blurred line of rock and electronic music that I am continuously working to create,” Kayzo told Alternative Press. “‘Up In Flames’ is important because it embodies the high and low of love and friendship. We all have good times with those we love and the memories we keep can make letting go hard whether it’s a friend or a loved one, but at the end of the day all good things must come to an end, it’s about the journey and what is made between the start and finish line.”

“Working with [Gaskarth] was seamless,” he continued. “We ended up getting together a while back and in one session we wrote and tracked the lyrics. Having him so dialed in and hands on with the creative process was really exciting too. A month ago we thought the song was in a good place to call it complete, but Alex hit me up and wanted to re-record because he knew he could do a better pass of it. He even had ideas on how to refresh the arrangement musically. He was an important and key piece to this song coming together the way it did.”

Kayzo has proven time and time again that he is a force to be reckoned with, and his newest single only continues to prove his prowess. The track is titled “Alone,” and the LA-based producer collaborated with rock band Our Last Night for the release. Kayzo ascended into the spotlight thanks to his hard-hitting drops and his ability to merge punk rock and electronic music. The choice of Our Last Night as a collaborator will surprise few who have consistently followed the producer, and the rock elements shine through on “Alone.” The track is the lead single of the producer’s next album.

Kayzo is embarking on his Welcome to the doghouse: Unleashed tour where he will be making stops throughout North America and Europe. Fans can see if he is performing at a city nearby here.
