Papa Roach’s ‘Last Resort’ gets a modern day facelift from Kayzo

Papa Roach Kayzo

The 2000s were a time for head banging, alternative rock/metal, and angst…so much angst. For all the kids or teens in the aughts, there is no doubt that they heard Papa Roach’s “Last Resort.” The original featured grimy guitar riffs, hardcore percussion and the iconic, catchy, dark vocals.

As time progressed music started to change, electronic music started to rise, and those kids turned into adults. But being an adult doesn’t mean they can’t scream lyrics at top of their lungs and remember every word from the songs that built them, and this Kayzo remix proves that it is in fact still cool to do just that.

Kayzo slows”Last Resort” down just a touch and turns it into a modern dubstep banger. By keeping the original guitar intact for the verses and then infusing the build ups with blistering bass and staggering synths, he reimagines the track while still keeping the originals integrity. So if you’ve been looking for a bit of revamped nostalgia, Kayzo has you covered.

Kayzo Uploads Brutal Remix Of Papa Roach’s – ‘Last Resort’

I remember back in the day. Getting home from school, making some bagel bites and turning on MTV. Obviously, the go-to show was TRL. And it seemed like for an entire year, Papa Roach’s classic tune ‘Last Resort’ was in the top 10. The angst-filled, angry lyrics spoke to my pre-teen soul in a way

Dexter’s Beat Laboratory Vol. 25

This post was originally published on this site

dexter's beat lab

Dexter’s Beat Laboratory is a weekly collection of songs from DA music editor and staff writer Robyn Dexter. With a taste that can only be described as eclectic — to say nothing of a name that lends itself to punnery — DA is happy to present a selection of tracks personally curated by Dexter for your listening pleasure.

Since it came out a few days ago, Mielo‘s track “The Wayfarer” with Pauline Herr hasn’t left my rotation. There’s something completely riveting about this track — from Herr’s haunting, melancholy vocals to the journey-like soundscape Mielo’s composed. Every time I listen, I find myself completely caught up in “The Wayfarer” and its pure beauty.

This one was discovered because of a Savoy repost, which makes perfect sense given their “electronic rock music” branding. This track by newcomers Crymynals and Fatherdude is a fierce electronic tune that dips its toes into elements of rock ‘n’ roll along the way. With a driving bassline and powerful vocals from Fatherdude, “One More Day” caught my ear immediately.

Kayzo‘s debut album, Overload, has been out for a full week now, and I’m still hooked on almost every track. For me, nostalgia hard with this LP, as Kayzo’s incorporated elements of punk rock into almost every track. Songs like “Alright Then” feature The Zealots’ Micah Martin, whose voice matches up impeccably with Kayzo’s heavy style.

London producer Wilkinson has been making huge strides over the past year, from a fiery collaboration with Dimension to his sophomore studio album in April of last year. His latest track, “Decompression,” is another fine example of his drum & bass proficiency. Wilkinson skillfully builds and drops the track throughout its length, drawing the listener in with computerized sound bites and a fast-paced drum & bass pattern.

Continuing with the UK drum & bass theme, The Prototypes have released a sweltering remix of their standout 2017 track, “Electric,” by Mind Vortex. This incredible take on “Electric” is part of The Prototypes’ Get Hype Remixed EP, which is chock full of bold, energy-packed reworks like this one.
