Rising future bass juggernaut ILLENIUM made one of his hugest career decisions official in August 2018: he’d be leaving his longtime home label of Seeking Blue in favor with a deal over at Astralwerks. His new label, a longtime top player in the dance sphere, had found itself under new leader Toby Andrews that May. It turns out ILLENIUM’s move was just the beginning.

Joining him are megastars Axwell Λ Ingrosso, and the masked king of fluff, Marshmello. These fresh signings show that Andrews has his ear tapped firmly to the ground when it comes to dance music, and is adept at picking out talent that is on its way to dominating charts worldwide. A number of key behind-the-scenes positions in the company were also filled, pointing to an Astralwerks that is buckling down to serve another 25 years at the top of its game.

Andrews spoke to the press about the new additions to the Astralwerks family:

“We’re incredibly excited that artists of the caliber of Illenium and Axwell Λ Ingrosso have decided to join the Astralwerks family. As we renew our focus on the label’s historic strengths in dance and electronic music, these artists reflect where we are headed in the coming years. Each and every member of our new Astralwerks team has a true depth of experience in the genre and are obsessive about the music. Their years of experience coming from all corners of the world prove that we are a forward-thinking and global label, poised to provide our artists with a high level of support as we continue our label’s legacy as a frontline label for the best and most cutting-edge artists in the dance and electronic music world.”

It will be interesting to see who the label targets next to bring into its fold.

Axwell / Ingrosso have released a captivating music video for their hit RØMANS collaboration titled “Dancing Alone.” The beginning of the video depicts concrete statues of people before fading into blackness during the note break, where the line, “This video is not for this song,” lingers against the black backdrop. It continues to pan in on these statues in different environments, with new rules appearing on screen. The second is “no cameras at raves.” A close up of a woman swaying to the beat becomes the vocal point of the video, which switches in and out of different shots always coming back to the woman.

During the drop, the video features different moments from raves of the past. There are many cuts of women ‘dancing alone,’ and the central woman from the beginning as well as statues make reoccurring appearances throughout the duration of the video. The video then mysteriously ends with shots going off, and men running in a race. The footage is in black and white, and viewers watch one man outpace the rest before the video’s abrupt ending.

While the ‘sun is shining’ for Swedish House Mafia fans, it’s waning for Axwell ^ Ingrosso, for with the reinstatement of Swedish House Mafia comes the retirement of the duo’s offshoot joint project that picked up when The Mafia disbanded. Sebastian Ingrosso recently spoke about the trio’s full fledged 2019 reunion with Swedish news source, Metro, during which Ingrosso noted that the Axwell Λ Ingrosso would pause under to resume Swedish House Mafia’s renewed reign. Ingrosso elaborates,

“No, we will not do that, we will actually put it on the shelf. As I usually say, there are three dots, it’s not two plus a dot. But we will definitely still do our individual stuff.”

Ingrosso additionally touched on the basis of the electronic superpower’s reunion. “Me and Axwell did our thing and Steve did his thing and Axwell and I felt we had done our thing for five years. We felt it was time, we missed it,” Ingrosso said of the group’s decision to reconvene. As we inch closer to the reunion we’ve all been waiting for, a dominating force on the EDM circuit that nearly filled the Swedish House void is hanging it up — for the best.

It seems to be teasing the return of Swedish House MafiaAxwell, Sebastian Ingrosso, and Steve Angello comeback seems to have officially begun.

The billboard shows the artwork for “Dancing Alone” followed by an error message and the Mafia’s ubiquitous, signature white dots. Axwell Λ Ingrosso hinted at the trio touring at New York’s Brooklyn Mirage on Memorial Day. The next month, Steve Angello confirmed the trio will be touring together next year. The Swedish dance icons’ last performance was a lauded reunion at Ultra Music Festival this year. Before that, they branded their performance at Ultra Music Festival 2013 as their final show before the trio bisbanded. Swedish House Mafia

Over Memorial Day Weekend, Axwell and Sebastian Ingrosso played New York City’s Brooklyn Mirage. The Swedish superstar duo, who formed their joint Axwell Λ Ingrosso venture upon Swedish House Mafia‘s split in 2014, played to a sold-out crowd packed to the brim with plenty of Swedish House Mafia diehards.

During the set’s closing moments, Axwell took to the microphone to hype the crowd over a Swedish House Mafia tour planned for 2019. The pair then went on to play “Save The World” to cap off their set.

“What do we do now? This is a big move. This has never happened before.  Should we cancel the Swedish House Mafia gig we’re planning next year? We are not sure they are ready for Swedish House Mafia in 2019.”

Axwell’s statement over the mic as of now remains a tantalizing tease, though even just a small taste of Swedish House hype satiated the roaring crowd. Following the trio’s historic reunion at Ultra Music Festival in March, a full fledged reassembly with Steve Angello may be imminent.

Of course, rumored plans of a reunion tour have been circulating since the trio reunited at Ultra‘s 20th Anniversary. Whether it’s the cryptic Tomorrowland teaser or the fact that the group recently wiped their Instagram account, speculation hasn’t halted since Ultra. Though considering the last time Axwell addressed the group’s status with, “we’re Swedish House Mafia for good this time,” now rumors are now beginning to look increasingly like facts.
