Hundred Waters share pensive new ballad, hint at possible hiatus in new mini-documentary

This post was originally published on this site

Hundred Waters have shared their first new music since last year’s Communicating LP, which found the band taking a deep dive into the intimate nature of their creation method and the struggle each of their personal connections to one another have endured as the band has evolved over the years. Now, the OWSLA-signed synth-folk trio has dropped off a new single, “Mushroom Cloud,” which was derived from the same studio sessions that led to their most recent album. The ballad is carried by weighty, melancholic piano chords and lead singer Nicole Miglis’ raw, expressive vocalizing, culminating into a cloud of textured white noise — appropriately setting the tone for the accompanying Communicating mini-documentary.

Releasing the new tour documentary between the band’s two Coachella appearances, and just a month ahead of their fifth annual FORM event, Communicating largely explores the six-year relationship between Miglis and her band mate and boyfriend Trayer Tryon. The relationship appears to be deteriorating as the band prepares to embark on a three-month road trip, with Tryon suggesting that Hundred Waters may even dissolve as a result upon their return home. Interestingly, the mini-doc is shot through a keyhole perspective, suggesting there’s more to the story than what meets the eye. And while Miglis, Tryon, and drummer Zach Tetreault have created a catalog of beautifully haunting electro-folk masterworks together at the expense of their now-strained relationships, perhaps Hundred Waters’ incredibly special run may sadly be nearing the end of its course.

Hundred Waters announce fifth annual FORM Arcosanti

Hundred Waters made a radical statement about the typical festival model with the launch of their FORM event series, now gearing up for its fifth annual installment. Hosted in Arizona at an artistic micro-community known as Arcosanti, the event’s curators have refined an entirely unique festival experience since 2014 that breaks down the artist-attendee barriers of a normal music event, and envelops all participants under the tightly-knit umbrella of artistry and social discourse for what is has become one of the most absorbing events of the year. Last year, the event grew to over 1,200 attendees and brought the likes of Skrillex, Solange, James Blake, and S U R V I V E to the high Arizona desert. In 2018 Hundred Waters and company will return to Arcosanti, officially announcing FORM with a new trailer ahead of next year’s event.

FORM is slated to run May 11 – 13, 2018 at Arcosanti with Hundred Waters returning for programming and curation duties. Past lineups have brought a spectrum-covering range of performers to the incredibly intimate camping venue, from Bonobo to Thundercat, Tokimonsta to Father John Misty. Details on this year’s lineup are still under wraps, but the OWSLA trio are likely to bring another diverse cast of friends along for FORM’s fifth edition.

Hundred Waters share striking new music video for ‘Wave To Anchor’

This post was originally published on this site

Earlier this year, OWSLA‘s electronic folk tro, Hundred Waters shared their third studio album, Communicating. The album reflected a period of change and growth for the group, and resonated as a closely personal account of the journey between the band’s sophomore record and their 2017 follow up. Now, as the year draws to a close, Hundred Waters offer an additional piece to the album by way of a new music video for “Wave To Anchor.”

Bright and upbeat, the tune features frontwoman Nicole Miglis’ whispering vocal work over a jubilant, fluttering break. Filmed entirely on location, the new music video for “Wave To Anchor” juxtaposes Miglis’ vivacious presence against a backdrop in the villages of Bulgaria, making for a visually striking accompaniment to one of Communicating‘s standout pieces.

25 Great EPs From 2017

This post was originally published on this site

Over the last couple years, we’ve seen the rise of the “mini-album,” an inexplicable term that is, I guess, supposed to signify some kind of intentionality and artistic vision that an EP simply cannot capture. It’s a designation that’s been rightfully met with ribbing derision, but it’s an interesting development that speaks to some larger … More »

Big Wild – Show Me ft Hundred Waters

This post was originally published on this site

When Big Wild first remixed Hundred Waters‘ “Show Me Love” two years ago, he admitted to feeling initially intimidated because of the sheer quality of the original recording.

“After trying a bunch of different ideas, I finally composed the one you’re hearing, and I knew it was the one,” explains the artist on his SoundCloud. The lyrics, after all, spoke to him so deeply that he felt called to mix the track.

Fresh off the heels of his Invincible EP and supporting tour, Big Wild has long used the bootleg in his sets — and has now garnered the attention of Hundred Waters themselves, as the band has authorized the producer’s take as an official remix.

Big Wild’s treatment of “Show Me Love” is a mellow and vibrant undertaking, wisely allowing Hundred Waters’ vocalist, Nicole Miglis, to lead the way. The track represents everything we know and love about Big Wild’s unique sound design, with its atmospheric tone and its sporadic — at times glitchy — musical structure.
