Envision Festival announces 2019 lineup with GRiZ, Tycho, CloZee, and moreJessBernstein.Luna .HOY

Costa Rica’s Envision Festival has announced the musical lineup for 2019, and it’s clear from their bookings the festival plans refine even the purest form of “Pura Vida.”

Since its inception nine years ago, the ocean-adjacent jungle paradise has steadily upped its game. By creating stages and structures inspired by and made in the local Tico way and hosting a reforesting program which has planted more than 12,000 trees in the past seven years, Envision has constantly challenged the status quo, both in relation to music and community. Through hard work and positivity, the festival has built a committed fan base. It’s clear the organizers have no plans on letting them down.

The music and arts festival’s tide is set to draw in some of the most eclectic underground and hard-hitting acts from around the globe. San Francisco’s Tycho will serve silky sweet psychedelic ambiance. Denver’s GRiZ will be Chasing the Golden Hour, Hawaii’s troubadour Trevor Hall will surely serenade many back tent-side, and as the sun goes down and the stars come out, the music and the loving won’t come to a halt.

Envision plans to deliver the sounds of Burning Man, with Robot Heart and All Day I Dream leader Lee Burridge alongside latin house master Nicola Cruz. A fan favorite and France’s greatest export of bass blasting tunes CloZee will be making her fourth appearance tucked under the jungle shade of Uvita. This is truly a festival with a focused intention: to educate, entertain, and awaken higher consciousness all in an organic fashion. Join the natural harmony, flame spinning, ocean waves, and incredible music from February 28 to March 3 — even the howler monkeys will be getting down.

Tickets are available here.

The final day of Costa Rica’s Envision Festival took a tragic turn as a death was reported at the beach just outside the festival grounds.

An attendee, reportedly a volunteer, passed away at Uvita Beach in Puntarenas. The man, identified as 32-year-old Wesner Chavarría Camareno, was pronounced dead the morning of Sunday, Feb. 25. Camareno was transferred to a local hospital but had expired by the time of his arrival. Security personnel for the festival declined to comment on the situation, though witness reports state that Camareno was in the water up to his knees before suddenly disappearing. A festival source informed Dancing Astronaut that drowning was the cause of death, though further details were not forthcoming.

Envision Festival is a four-day music and arts event that has taken place at Rancho la Merced in Uvita for the past eight years. Envision personnel told Dancing Astronaut that this is the first death to take place at the festival since its founding in 2011.

Envision Festival has yet to make an official response to the reports.

[UPDATE 2:07 EST]

Users have taken to Envision’s Instagram account to voice their displeasure with the lack of response from the festival.

“We really wanted to bring in best in breed artists from every corner of the globe,” says festival co-founder and music director Josh Wendel. “But we also wanted to create a platform for some of the best emerging talent in Costa Rica and its neighbors. In addition to being our most intentional lineup yet, the artists we’ve got coming for Envision 2018 are both world famous and driven to achieve the same impact we want to make in the world. Through language and culture we’re united by the dream we share, and that just makes the experience of coming together on the same dancefloor so much more special.”

Though Envision 2018 is already 70 percent sold out, four-day general admission tickets can still be purchased here.

The Glitch Mob’s Ooah releases his Envision Festival set under his downtempo alias, Of Porcelain

There are transformational music festivals, and there is Costa Rica’s Envision Festival. Held annually deep in the Latin American jungles, just off the beaches of the Pacific, the Spring time gathering boasts thought-leading workshops, world class yoga, and cutting-edge music. What better place then for a burner like Josh Mayer to pull out a rare solo performance as his downtempo alter ego, Of Porcelain.

Josh Mayer is a man of many talents. As Ooah, Mayer makes up one-third of The Glitch Mob (alongside ediT and Boreta) and one-half of PANTyRAiD (alongside Marty Party). Yet, the music from his long-dormant solo project, Of Porcelain, hadn’t seen the light of day in over four years, for which the multi-talented producer told LA Weekly, “The thing with the Of Porcelain music is that it just hits me at certain times where I have to write it.”

Nearly 10 years have passed since Of Porcelain‘s first album release. Now Mayer has broken his estrangement from his downtempo moniker with a stunning performance at Envision. The set is soothing, entrancing, and ethereal, featuring a track list from the likes of Sasha, Aphex Twin, and Christian Löffler. Additionally, Mayer includes a few of his own productions, such as his newest original track, “And Here I Am Free,” which was premiered here at DA earlier this year.

Listen to Of Porcelain’s solo performance at Costa Rica’s Envision Festival earlier this year.

Tracklist:

1. 2814 – Before The Rain
2. Brutalist – He Was A Great Man
3. Of Porcelain – And Here I Am Free
4. Of Porcelain – Shadows In The Sand
5. Schneider TM – Take Me Out Tonight
6. Lusine – Flat (Lusine Remix)
7. Of Porcelain – Awake With Your Eyes
8. Jon Hopkins – Abandon Window
9. Aphex Twin – Avril 14th (Murcof Remake)
10. edIT – Laundry
11. Of Porcelain – Light In Your Eyes
12. Halo – Green & Blue (Koan Sound remix)
13. Holographic Field – Afterglow
14. Jon Hopkins – Sun Harmonics
15. Sasha – Time After Time
16. Christian Löffler – Swim
17. Sasha – Rooms
18. Kiasmos – Swept
19. Holographic Field – Afloat
20. Kiasmos – Bent
