Dylan Matthew’s soothes the soul in acoustic rework of Seven Lions, SLANDER, and Dabin’s ‘First Time’Dylan Matthew First Time Acoustic Rework

In October of 2018, Seven Lions teamed up with SLANDER and Dabin to release blissful single, “First Time,” on Seven Lions’ imprint Ophelia Records. Dylan Matthew is the vocalist on the original track, and he has come forward with his own acoustic version of the song, showcasing the beautiful melody in a new light.

Matthew gives his stunning vocals the spotlight, filtering out the electronic elements in favor of powerful piano melodies that serve as the perfect complement to his vocals. He has also ensured that there will be no questioning his talent thanks to the fact that he live recorded the music video for the release featuring simply himself playing the piano. “First Time” was not the singer’s first electronic collaboration, having previously worked with ARMNHMR and Nolan van Lith on “Alone” in addition to SLANDER and Kayzo on release “Without You.”

SLANDER have delivered the final track from their Headbangers Ball EP: “Hate Being Alone,” featuring Dylan Matthew, on Monstercat. This marks the duo’s third collaboration with the R&B vocalist, having previously worked with him on “Without You” with Kayzo and “First Time” with Seven Lions and Dabin. The “heaven trap” maestros up the contrast ante, combining Matthew’s sultry vocals amidst glittering guitar melodies with hard-hitting, headbanging bass.

“This song started as a drop we made last February,” the duo says of the track. “Since then, we shelved the project for a bit to finish a few more urgent works in progress, but finishing the song was always on our mind. Then this fall we finally got the missing piece: Dylan Matthew’s incredible vocal line! This vocal took the track into a completely different place and we were thrilled that it was given this new life. We went in and re-arranged and re-structured the entire song to fit his vocal and we couldn’t be happier with the result. This is our first solo original dubstep song and we are so excited to finally give to you guys! We hope you enjoy this final piece to the Headbangers Ball EP!”

The EP culminates with stark contrasts of light and heavy, hot and cold, life and death, etc. Each track places fluffy vocals and lush melodies at the helm of harder-hitting electronic elements, from dubstep and future bass, with featured artists such as Spag Heddy and Elle Vee on “Running To You” and RIOT on “You Don’t Even Know Me.”

After launching their Gud Vibrations label with frequent collaborator, NGHTMRE, the duo continues to pump out their own projects while supporting up-and-coming artists such as WAVEDASH and QUEST.

Seven Lions leads the pack on SLANDER, Dabin collaborative track, ‘First Time’

Seven Lions leads the pack on SLANDER, Dabin collaborative track, ‘First Time’Seven Lions First Time 1

When it comes to euphoric, transcendent bass music, Seven Lions has essentially cornered the market. The American producer’s insatiable musical repertoire and stylistic reach (spanning dubstep, trance, electro, and progressive house) is nearly as full-bodied as his languorous head of hair—and that’s saying something.

Most recently, while amid his The Journey 2 Tour, Seven Lions has invited SLANDER and Dabin  for a joint release, “First Time,” featuring vocalist, Dylan Matthew, on his very own Ophelia Records. The track encompasses Seven Lions’s overpoweringly euphoric variety of melodic chill-step, with his hallmark stop-and-go synth patches, slapping snares, utopian melodicism.

Similarly, Dabin (a repeat offender on Ophelia) and the SLANDER duo have also been carrying out their own auspicious endeavors. SLANDER just signed on with NGHTMRE, to form their very own label, GUD VIBRATIONS, fashioned from the threesome’s cornerstone collaboration of the same name. Dabin has been dabbling in revitalizing his experiential productions with more live instrumentation, while performing alongside some top-notch electronic talents like Illenium and Said The Sky.

Gammer – Stay Tonight ft Dylan Matthew (Ray Volpe Remix)

This post was originally published on this site

Ray Volpe is one of dubstep’s most prolific up-and-coming producers. With remixes of GTA and Delta Heavy under his belt, as well as releases on OWSLA and Mad Decent, the North Carolina producer is quickly becoming a force to be reckoned with.

On his newest remix of Gammer and Dylan Matthew‘s “Stay Tonight,” Ray Volpe embraces Gammer’s melodic buildup with open arms. “And it’s okay if what you want is a breakup” sings Matthew, as the track’s piano samples evoke a sense of melancholy. As the track culminates, Volpe’s signature wobbles and thrashing dub synths usurp the focus of the listener.

The stark contrast between melodic buildup and heavy-duty breakdown is reminiscent of early dubstep legends like Skrillex‘s seminal remix of “Cinema” or Nero‘s iconic rework of “Feel So Close.” The track serves as another stepping stone for one of dubstep’s most incendiary up-and-coming acts.
