In a rather insightful tweet and Instagram story post last night, Sonny Moore “leaked” what appears to be the title of the long-rumored brand new collab between Skrillex and English DJ and Producer John Ford aka Joyryde. The title appears to be “AGEN WIDA,” and it’s our guess what that could even mean. Beyond this
When you look up the history of electronic dance music, it dates back to the 1960s and evolved over time, picking up the pace in the 90’s. EDM has definitely changed over the years, especially since the 2000’s and 2010’s. Gabriel & Dresden are a DJ duo who have been on the scene since 2001. “There
I can’t be the only one who has distinct nostalgic flashbacks from the first time I heard Utada Hikaru’s “Simple and Clean,” in the opening of the original Kingdom Hearts for Playstation 2. A deep, driving melodic jam that sucks the listener in almost immediately and sets the tone for the incredible world that is
DJing has been in Marvin Humes’ family his whole life. Growing up, Humes’ dad used to play parties and kept sound equipment in the living room, making it a perfect opportunity for Humes to learn and practice the ropes of DJing. Before he knew it, he was getting experience at weddings and birthday parties – all through
Both DJ hobbyists and serious controllerists have a ton to look forward to in Native Instruments‘ revamped hardware and software offerings, including a tasty new S4 controller and Traktor Pro 3 DJ software. After almost four years, the beloved DJ ecosystem was beginning to lag a bit as competitors added hefty features — but NI is out to remedy that. The updates to the company’s flagship pro controller and software are just a handful of an entirely revamped product lineup. New goodies on the production side include new versions of favorites like their Komplete virtual synth bundle, and Maschine sampler hardware. NI CEO Daniel Haver put the changes in perspective, saying:
“This announcement marks a new chapter in NI history. For music-makers of all styles and abilities, there’s now an ideal entry point to the NI ecosystem—from inspirational starter kits that guide first experiences to pro-grade products that enable our users to push the boundaries of music production and performance.”
The impressive new S4 alone is must-see tech for DJs. The biggest news? The S4’s new jogwheels are motorized and equipped with new Traktor tech they’re calling “haptic drive.” The jogs promise tactile weighted feel for improved scratching and beat matching, as well as lightning-quick access to song search, cue point setting, and more. The S4 is set to ship in November at $899, while Traktor Pro 3 drops this October. If two decks and ultra-portable fun is enough, NI’s updated S2 entry level rig can be had for $299.
Pioneer DJ has officially announced a brand new, all-in-one DDJ-RR unit, designed to help new and aspiring DJs transition from the bedroom to the party, bar, and even the club. The system comes equipped with all the basic features including the traditional NXS2 set-up paired with a portable body that allows for easy mobility and lightweight capability.
This new unit follows their flagship DDJ-RX2, which was made for smaller venues and home use. The difference between the setups are clear, with the RR having fewer beat effects, fewer color effects, no touchscreen, and fewer performance pads. However, they come with dual USB ports for a seamless switchover and a seven-inch full-color screen. DJs also have the option of recording their mix straight to the USB from the hardware.
Pioneer told the press, “Unleash your creativity with the XDJ-RR and follow your dreams from your bedroom to the club.”In addition, the RR is 43% lighter than the RX2, making it ideal to carry with you anywhere and everywhere. Head to Pioneer’s website for more information.
Since Electronic Dance Music broke onto the scene, it is next to impossible to remember a time in which Hardwell has not reigned in the genres Hierarchy. With dancefloor anthems “Space Man”, “Apollo” and I’ll just stop there or I will be here all day, Hardwell has proven a staple in the industry as both
Many dance music artists aspire to make a career out of their craft, but cutting through the large pool of competition is often difficult task. WAV Media and their Mixmag partners endeavored to help musicians achieve such a goal, and have since birthed “Magnified” as a solution.
The series does what its name implies. Ten artists who sign up for a WAV Media account will be handpicked to be “Magnified,” with each being covered extensively in Mixmag and the WAV platform through exclusive interviews, videos, and performances. Fans will be given an intimate look into their processes that will only further their reputations as the next generation of top talent.
Ten artists, which include J. Worra, Cassian, Octo Octa, and more, have already been chosen for the inaugural round; however, the occasion has led to the Magnified hosts opening the class up for two more artists. Those chosen will score their own Mixmag Lab, a festival slot, and the extensive media attention that their counterparts are already set to receive.
WAV Media began in LA as a platform dedicated to the artists. It’s forged partnerships with a number of media outlets across the musical spectrum to empower creators on the front end, while also providing a convenient back end for artists to more effectively track and grow their audience. With Magnified now in session, the process could be even more expedited for those driven enough.
