Stream Destroyer ken

When the New Pornographers released their great new album Whiteout Conditions earlier this year, there was a conspicuous Dan Bejar-shaped absence. New Pornos ringleader A.C. Newman had a plain enough explanation: When he told Bejar that he was aiming for “bubblegum krautrock,” Bejar figured the “weird, quiet” songs he was writing weren’t going to … More »

Destroyer – “Tinseltown Swimming In Blood” Video

Dan Bejar is returning next month with a new Destroyer album called ken, and we’ve already heard the excellent lead single “Sky’s Grey.” Now he’s shared another, “Tinseltown Swimming A Blood,” a stunning new wave reverie that comes with a video directed by Karen Zolo, aka KC. Dan Bejar (Destroyer) announces solo dates, cautions/excites us to “expect new songs”

This post was originally published on this site

Hard to believe it’s already been a year since Detroyer’s Dan Bejar released his latest album, Poison Season, on Merge , isn’t it? I mean, where the heck has the time gone, readers??? OH WAIT, never mind; now I remember: our time was spent listening to f-ing Detroyer.

Still though, after a year lost in the time-warped haze of Bejar’s weirdo pseudo-smooth-jazz, I’m maybe kinda… ready to put something else in my ears. Luckily, so is Bejar; seems he’s just announced a new solo tour of the United States this fall! But because that dude is such a sexy-chameleon-of-musical-unsexieness (my term), the press release for the tour dates does us the nice little favor of giving us a heads up as to what we can expect when it’s just Bejar alone on stage with his killer hair: “think fewer jazz sax-soaked orchestral ballads and more troubadourial fare with guitar and vintage Japanese pedals.”

But if, unlike me, you’re still REALLY into the sax, I wouldn’t worry too much about that, either. I mean, “fewer” jazz-soaked orchestral ballads =/= “no” jazz-soaked orchestral ballads. (Also, what the hell — here’s one more for ya down below. Pour some Burgundy and enjoy!)
