Ekali x Zhu

In the final days of 2017, Ekali and ZHU surprised the world by releasing their long-awaited collaboration, “Blame.” In the months since, the song has been heard in DJ sets across the world, thrilling listeners and inspiring producers to craft their own takes on the track.

The latest of these is Hunter Siegel, who’s released a slow-burning electro bootleg of the song. The Canadian producer has left many of the song’s original aspects intact, using the chorus as a place to put his own stamp on the collaboration. He chops up ZHU’s vocals and contrasts them with heavy layers of electro synths, giving the drop of the song an entirely different feel.

“As soon as I heard this tune drop I knew exactly what I wanted to do with it, and it came together perfectly,” Siegel shared in the song description.

2017’s holiday season is a gift that keeps on giving. OWSLA announced on Twitter that Ekali and ZHU’s long awaited collaboration has not only been released, but it is available for free download.

The track, titled “Blame,” opens with characteristically ZHU vocals and pulsing synths as accents. An elaborate collection of chords roll into a delicate yet commanding drop taking the listener through a sonic journey. “Blame” is an interesting combination of low and high energy moments leaving the listener both soothed and energized after the tracks closing chord.

Ekali originally premiered the track at Life is Beautiful and later confirmed on Reddit that it was indeed a collaboration between him and ZHU. The track was released just as the Canadian producer’s Babylon tour has come to an end. Meanwhile, Zhu has been busy working on his collaboration with Adidas.

Following the hype around graves‘ viral debut EP Hilo, Austin native DJ/Producer Tim Gunter has put an explosive spin on one of the EP’s most popular tracks, “Blame,” featuring LocateEmilio on the vocals.

In the past, Gunter has been praised for his remixes of A-list artists such as Drake, Snoop Dogg and Ty Dolla $ign. This year, he has taken his production talents even further, releasing a widely acclaimed single, “Running Away.”

In his “Blame” remix, Gunter maintains the bold, intriguing atmosphere that the original creates, adding in some rapid drum rhythms, crunchy synths and orchestra samples that provide a whole new energy source. For listeners, this is another masterpiece from the 2013 Red Bull Thre3style U Champion to add to his portfolio.

Nigerian-born, NYC-based rapper Thutmose has had a remarkable run in 2017. In addition to the thoroughly positive his single “Still I Rise” received, he also inked a deal with the successful TH3RD BRAIN collective.

His most recent effort “Blame” is mesmerizing track with all the makings of a hit record. Throughout the track’s length, Thutmose shows his remarkable versatility as a vocalist and rapper over a hauntingly minimalist track from KillaGraham, oscillating between a rapid-fire flow and a perfectly executed hook with ease.

Zeds Dead Drop Sick New Animated Music Video For ‘Blame’

This post was originally published on this site

Since Zeds Dead, Diplo, and vocalist Ellipant dropped “Blame” earlier in the summer, it’s entered the rotations of EDM fans and DJs alike to become one of the catchiest dubstep songs of the summer. Now I know it’s not “just another Monday” – because it’s Thursday – but I thought I’d go ahead and share the new music video for the single that’s just come out on Trap Nation.

I usually don’t cover music videos, but this animated piece is something of a visual masterpiece. It looks like the director Chris Yee drew a lot of inspiration from ’80s-styled cartoons (He-Man anyone?!) to come up with a powerful music video for a powerful song.

“With the music video, I wanted to channel in on the vicious cycle and nature of self-destruction — whether it comes to a weekend rager, technological development versus nature, or current events in youth versus authority…visually, I wanted to channel the look an an ’80s space opera.”
