It’s most important day of the week: New Music Friday. With a refreshing amount of tunes hitting the airwaves today on the first NMF of 2019, Dancing Astronaut has you covered with the latest edition of The Hot 25.

Perhaps one of the biggest releases of today is a mega collaboration from Seven Lions, Wooli, Trivecta, and Nevve called “Island,” which is packed with cascading melodies and powerfully emotive beats. Lost Kings have also arrived in full force, releasing their Paper Crowns EP, which is headed up by “Don’t Kill My High” with Wiz Khalifa and Social House. mau5trap has released their We Are Friends, Vol. 8 compilation, which features 35 tracks from some of the label’s best rising acts, including i_o, ATTLAS, No Mana, and more. Hardwell kicks off his 2019 releases with “Being Alive” with JGUAR, and Sofi Tukker delivers four remixes for “Benadryl,” including a breezy take from TOKiMONSTA. Lane 8/This Never Happened young gun, Anderholm, is first on the scene with his mellifluous chord progressions and clattering percussion to rouse the sleepiest listener from the worst alcohol-induced slumber. “Timecode”‘s subtle splendor is like a gentle reminder to reacquaint oneself with the universe.

The San Holo-housed, Duskus‘s most recent single, “Where To Go,” has the technicolor tenderness to make your Sunday morning neuroticism cower in its tracks. One rendezvous with the track’s minimal magic—led by simple, saccharine vocal intonations and a deliberate, ardent beat—counts as full weekend’s act of contrition.

Parisian house project, Boston Bun, knows how to not only pull, but full-on yank on the heart strings. “Missing You” exemplifies the Ed Banger producer’s ability to make poignancy feel like ecstasy—which is unanimously at least mildly applicable for some good-old-fashioned requiem for the weekend.


Anjunadeep duo, Eli & Fur, can leave any purposeful listener in utter awe, bringing emotive, cinematic tension to each and every record they let loose in the oh-so-saturated blogosphere. Rodriguez Jr. recently got his hands on “Night Blooming Jasmine,” and even Eli & Fur took a liking to the outcome, bolstering the rework in their sets as of late. The newfangled rendition offers fluttering synth-patterns and the original’s hazy, incantation-like vocalizing, in remembrance of that hazy, sublime figure from the club last night who scampered off just before you could catch her name.

ATTLAS‘s new mau5trap EP, Charcoal Halo, acts as a vessel for listener’s to reconnect with both themselves and the boundless latent energy around them. “Coldest Night,” with its slow-burn breakbeat and blissfully despondent vocals, is like a rhapsodic snapshot of listeners’ end-of-weekend contempt.

ATTLAS has been demonstrating he has all the makings of a mau5trap luminary since his exquisitely executed debut EP of 2015, Siren, on deadmau5‘s auspicious label housing. Now, a handful of emotionally saturated, atmospheric house projects later, he’s resolved to lay 2018 to rest, adorned in a six-piece Charcoal Halo. 

Charcoal Halo is, according to ATTLAS himself, a pensive, deliberate product of long-winded introspection, an emancipation from the confines of screen-induced slavery. Designed for purposeful listening, the project acts, throughout its duration, as a blissful rendezvous point between the narrator’s complex inner life and a heavenly body of newly discovered surroundings.

“Unsurprisingly, the themes, sounds, melodies, and even titles on the final project lean into that push-pull… that, creatively, was about experience and reflection,” ATTLAS says. “Too much experience lacked the patience to learn from it, and too much reflection lacked anchor points of living and story.”

Indeed, there is much to infer from the EP’s eponymous titles. “Water for the Trees,” emphatically exemplifies this notion, with its pastoral and tender piano melodies and synth trickles, which fall like happy rain. ATTLAS’s adept piano playing flows decidedly through the project like a life-giving stream. His kaleidoscopic emotional palette is palpable as ever, as the listener is greeted with the poignant, slow-motion breakbeat of “Coldest Night,” splendidly rendered with melancholic vigor on behalf of 7Chariot (the solitary feature on the EP); but “Cyprus Lake” soon takes hold, with its untethered optimism and vapory synth blasts, falling and crashing, only to take shape again, like a liquid dream one should dance to.

ATTLAS’s Charcoal Halo brings a quixotic splendor to modern, atmospheric house music/electronica. Timeless elements, like the worldly choral emissions of “Fine Modern Structures,” or the winding and furrowing instrumentals of the title track, run abound, allowing the work to eclipse any particular epochal timestamp. Underneath the Charcoal Halo, one can expect, if nothing else, a momentary reconciliation of Yin and Yang.

Bristol’s Icarus brethren avoid flying too close to the sun, with this ambient house offering, “October.” Instead, like a warm summer’s rain, they’re here to absolve you of weekend transgressions with skittering, precipitous percussion and revelatory vocal incantations.

Listeners of intention may recognize “Third Evangelist,” as well as most of Khåen’s new Solace In The Night album, from Lane 8‘s adorned seasonal mixes and live sets, as well as featured on the latter’s recently incepted This Never Happened label housing. With minimal production froth, “Third Evangelist” glows with a transcendental twinkle, intended to rescue listener’s from the icy precipice of a Sunday afternoon.

ODESZA addicts will revel inside the redemptive reverb of Satin Jackets’s “So I Heard.” The sultry track’s languorous strings and otherworldly vocal harmonies are likely to incite wakeful dreams through lustrous beaches eons from the throes of office monotony.

Sexy doesn’t even begin to chronicle the audible encounter that is mossy.’s reworking of Lido‘s “Dye.” The track experiments, unfettered, with beat-deliberate downtempo mechanisms, most notably its lush and languid harp plucks.

ATTLASmau5trap endeavor from earlier this year, “Concussion,” is an equal parts blissful and torrential odyssey that eventually lands listeners back on their feet—once its effects have abated—much like a night of heavy drinking. Its rattling percussion and stormy synth blasts are mediated by a tender, steadying melody that reminds the listener of lighter arenas, like a ghost of dance floors past.

The mau5trap maven himself, Joel Zimmerman (deadmau5), has now vamped his very own weekly radio show, mau5trap radio, through SiriusXM. The first edition aired late last week, September 28, featuring a fitting, hot-button guest mix from Getter, who just recently released his mau5trap-certified concept album, Visceral.

The internationally-aired series is set to feature a sundry of other mau5trap talent, with debuts lined up from the label’s most auspicious acts, including REZZ, ATTLAS, No Mana, Rinzen, and more. The show has found a home on SiriusXM’s BPM (channel 51): a sacred staple in the electronic airwaves. This landmark achievement for Zimmerman and the esteemed imprint comes just one year after mau5trap’s momentous 10-year anniversary.

After a three-day period, each show will be plugged onto Mixcloud, where listeners can stream freely. Additionally, the show will air regularly across the globe, through the following mediums:

If Lane 8‘s sophomore long player Little By Little was a mixtape (and he’s definitely fond of those), it would be worn out and dinged up from binge-listens by now. The album was certified feels front to back, with Lane 8’s trademark analog warmth oozing from every track. Although the “Little Voices” producer hasn’t held back on the new music front since the LP’s release, that didn’t stop him plotting to give even more legs to Little By Little with a full 10 artists already named for the project. The list reads like a who’s who of melodic dance music, with stalwarts like ATTLAS, Dirty South, and Fairchild alongside fresh This Never Happened label mates Ʌ V O U R E  and KHAEN. The remix album promises a fresh dose of deep and emotive takes, all reaching for a very high bar set by the original album material.

The lineup features house music heavyweights and newcomers, with big name talent like Anna Lunoe, Green Velvet, and Duke Dumont alongside some smaller, but still reputable names such as Amtrac, Hotel Garuda, Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs, and more. Hosted at the scenic Carson Creek Ranch in Austin, this lineup and location pairing makes Seismic Dance Event one of fall’s most intriguing festivals.

House maven BIJOU has returned with another tasty dance floor-ready offering, “Take A Hit,” with Gerry Gonza. His hard-hitting style fuses perfectly with that of Gonza’s as they pair sultry vocals with a bass-heavy beat for a g-house collaboration that’s sure to entice dance music listeners of all persuasions.


Rameses B‘s style of drum & bass can be summed up in one word: intense. With each new release, the UK artist tells an enthralling tale. During his latest’s six-minute length, “Prometheus” builds and drops in tremendous fashion. Mystery-filled breaks that tell a tale of the narrator searching for someone, adding to the suspense. “This is the first time I’ve combined psytrance and drum and bass, the result is a progressive and ever-evolving track that takes the listener on a journey,” Rameses B says of the Monstercat release. “This could spark future iterations of the psy-dnb genre.”


Hidden Face exhibits a mysterious feel to his music reminiscent of ZHU‘s. The up-and-coming Parisian artist pairs a dark beat with alluring vocals painting a foreboding picture as he goes. Though slightly eerie, the track is fascinating, and I find myself listening again and again. “Turn off the lights” marks Hidden Face’s opening track to his debut three-track EP, out now on Daruma.


I’ll admit I was surprised to see ATTLAS on Louis The Child‘s “Better Not” remix package — pleasantly so. The mau5trap artist has composed a beautiful rendition of the Chicago duo’s hit, layering in a variety of lighthearted synths that give the track an extra feel-good vibe. It’s impeccably produced and shows a lighter side of the Toronto artist’s style.


Elephante‘s Glass Mansion EP has just hit the airwaves, adding nine emotion-packed originals to his repertoire. The EP’s namesake is a blissful and catchy track with a deeper message. “It’s the story about building and dreaming about the “Glass Mansion,” where the streets are made of gold and everything is perfect – and then finally getting there, and realizing that it’s not what you were looking for,” Elephante told Billboard. “You can’t wait to be happy until you achieve something – you have to find joy in the process. Because we’ll never have it better than we do right now.”
