House meets trap in new Night Owl Radio episode featuring Dr. Fresch and ATLiensAtliens Live In Honolulu

Insomniac CEO Pasquale Rotella has proven yet again that his ability to curate diverse top-notch electronic music acts is unmatched. Insomniac’s Night Owl Radio is back and better than ever with a brand new episode featuring The Prescription Records labelhead Dr. Fresch and masked extraterrestrials ATLiens.

First up is the man with a PhD in house music: Dr. Fresch. Dr. Fresch gets in the groove and selects this episode’s Up All Night tracks for the first hour and 15 minutes followed by an exclusive guest mix from trap and bass duo ATLiens. Hot off the success off their recent hit “Shelter” and massive remix album, Ghost Planet Remixes, these two hold nothing back in 40 minutes of head-banging bass.

If listeners enjoy the juxtaposition of house and trap created in this mix and want to see it again, this mix provides that opportunity. As the end of a decade quickly approaches, Dr. Fresch and ATLiens both have New Year’s Eve festival gigs locked and loaded at Countdown NYE Festival in San Bernardino, California.

DA’s Supernatural Selections: A Halloween playlist [Best of 2019]Rezz

Amid the season of spiders, ghosts, and demons (oh, my!) Dancing Astronaut presents some of the most delightfully decadent tracks released solely in 2019. The dastard design of the dark arts is never something to scoff at. Dampened tones, haunting harmonies, and menacing drums take the driver’s seat this year, of course, as our annual harrowing Halloween playlist rears its head yet again. In light of the recent mid-tempo Renaissance—and the formidable sounds that followed—this year’s compilation is fashioned from entirely up-to-the-minute offerings.

Highlights include cult leader, REZZ, in the form of two tracks from her most recent project, Beyond The Senses; a tantalizing taste from fiendish newcomer, Kim Petras‘s horror-themed TURN OFF THE LIGHT studio album; chilling sound design from G-Jones, Eprom, KOAN Sound, and Flume; eerie melodies from Gesaffelstein, deadmau5, NGHTMRE, ZHU, and Wolfgang Gartner; and many more ghoulishly heavy hitters.

Other notable mentions include i_o and Grimes new hit thriller, “Violence,” a remix from Knife Party‘s “Ghost Train” after their first EP in four years, and the monstrous “If My Eyes Are Vampires (Your Body Is My Sunlight)” featuring TYNAN, arriving from Sullivan King‘s debut long play. Play this at your next Halloween party or in your pumpkin-print pajamas. But proceed at your peril: these tracks are not for the feeble-hearted.

Aliens show signs of activity: ATLiens invades with ‘Ghost Planet’ project

Aliens show signs of activity: ATLiens invades with ‘Ghost Planet’ projectAtliens Live In Honolulu

With everything surrounding Area 51, it’s suspicious the extraterrestrial duo ATLiens are hiding in plain site, abducting listeners with bass-powered beams in their ominous Ghost Planet project on Bassrush Records. Try not to play this EP too loud, because the Skrillex launched and Bassnectar collaborators know how to use bass in lethal doses in this EP. Thankfully, these “ATLiens” are peaceful in nature, but not in expression, considering Ghost Planet might be one of the more earth shattering releases of this year.

The EP begins with “SCP – 231,” setting the tone for what’s ahead, a warning. “Shelter” is both the next song and a word of advice for the cutting shards that slice through heavy sub bass. “Fading” brings us back to earth, for a more melodically driven track feating vocalist Sara Skinner. With a space launch buildup and tonal bass the track blasts through space with a glimpse of short lived uppity bliss. “Tantra” brings back a familiar tribal character, and a prominent figure as the lead through a forest of thick 808s.

“Fuck That” is precisely what it’s intended, tossing hoards of alien enthusiasts into a vat of murky sub bass one could drown in. “Exterminate” featuring Hairtage is none other than a mass execution of experimentation and grit. “Closer” with EDDIE was the first single off the contaminant spill, shining a light on their supernatural sounds and their imminent invasion.

With the apocalyptic bass decimating all surroundings, no wonder there’s now a planet filled with the spiritual remains of our physical shells.

ATLiens and EDDIE share malevolent mid-tempo offering, ‘Closer’

ATLiens and EDDIE share malevolent mid-tempo offering, ‘Closer’Atliens

The masked mid-tempo menaces of ATLiens have taken an auspicious accomplice for their most recent experimental bass cut, “Closer.” With the help of repeat mau5trap habitue, EDDIE, the foreboding duo delve deeper into subterranean soundscapes than ever before.

Employing an unnerving female vocal sample and an unearthly dose of sub bass, “Closer” is primed to transport listeners through the darkest realm of their cognitive coordinates, which is precisely the chrome-faced ATLiens’ intended destination.

The enigmatic ATLiens duo shot off in a fiery trajectory after Skrillex notably mixed their Party Thieves collaboration of 2015, “Chief,” into a Boiler Room set of his. Soon after, they rendezvoused with Bassnectar, on OWSLA, no less, for the resounding, collaborative “Interlock.” It’s been onward and upward since then for the faceless bass phantoms.

ATLiens reveal haunting bass trap ‘IMMA’ with Badrapper

ATLiens reveal haunting bass trap ‘IMMA’ with BadrapperATLiens IMMA

ATLiens strike back with an earth-trembling, bass-rattler, “IMMA” featuring Badrapper. The duo infuse their signature trap tempo with eerie tension, hyped-up vocals, background sirens, and nervous high hats that grow in confidence as anticipation balloons. Fluttering sub bass and abrasive synths take control, filling the space with catchy high ends of menacing giggles and haunting strings.

“IMMA” carries a similar tone to ATLiens’ debut EP, Invasion, released earlier this year. Covered in mystery, the two producers continue their work in the low-end frequency spectrum, collaborating with Bassnectar, UZ in previous releases. Earlier this month, ATLiens released a slew on new music on their Diplo and Friends mix.

We don’t know where they’re from, but if their sound is any indication, whatever planet the ATLiens call home must be a place born from pure chaos and blistering bass lines. After wrapping up their first North American Tour dubbed “The Invasion”, the duo have returned to pushing their studio outputs with the sinister and incongruous soundscape on “IMMA.” A collaborative effort with earthling Badrapper, this malevolent maelstrom of mayhem is perfect for the 31st of October.

Happy Hauntings, earthlings.
