Grabbitz and Sullivan King‘s roots are firmly planted in rock ‘n’ roll, and their new Monstercat collaboration showcases that fact perfectly. “Crazy As You” manages to be simultaneously vulnerable and heavy, weaving seamlessly between Grabbitz’s emotive vocals and Sullivan Kings fiery guitar progressions. This song is inspiring, allowing both artists’ talents to shine in their rawest forms. Prepare to have your heartstrings tugged.

Ever in pursuit of a party, The Knocks have created a pristine summer tune called “Awa Ni.” Just in time for the longest day of the year, they’ve linked with Nigerian singer Kah-Lo for an easygoing, carefree single. The phrase “awa ni” roughly translates to “that’s us” in Yoruba, one of the native languages spoken in the city of Lagos, Nigeria, where Kah-Lo’s from. She said in a release that the beat The Knocks concocted “gave me the vibe of rolling around town back home with my friends” and made her want to write something about where she’s from. “Awa Ni” is the perfect result.

The countdown to Flite‘s Calm Before the Storm EP continues with the release of a new single, “Skywalker,” on Liquicity Records. The tune follows the debut single of the compilation, “Decisions,” which arrived a few weeks ago. Both songs are are impeccable examples of top-quality U.S. drum ‘n’ bass, as Flite continues his mission to bring such music to the States’ masses. “Skywalker” is a full-throttle launch into outer space, rocketing through its drum ‘n’ bass rhythm and gliding at a more graceful pace through interludes of twinkling melodies and soothing vocals.

BLOODTONE brings listeners back to earth with the release of “Already Dead,” an ominous techno endeavor that pounds furiously in listeners’ ears. Backed by a frenetic beat of the deepest bass, “Already Dead” drifts between melancholy piano melodies and eerie vocals chanting “already dead” that bleed into the corners of the brain. BLOODTONE continues to cement his dark and sinister style with captivating releases such as this one.

Horn connoisseur Alexander Lewis is back again with another trap-infused heater. He continues to make music that’s unpredictable and completely unique, opting this time to take a cinematic and orchestral approach. He described “Soar” perfectly in the song’s description: “‘Soar’ is an amalgamation of my influences from current movie scores and trap. It features three string players (recorded and layered to sound like a full orchestra) and eight brass players (two horns, two trumpets, four trombones). At the time of writing the song, ‘chaos’ was the only word to express how I was feeling, but when I had a final product it ended up being so much more than that. It represented/represents positive ways of dealing with chaos, and finding the beauty in it.”

The name Alexander Lewis has become synonymous with big, trapped-out beats infused with his signature trombone-oriented sound. Now teaming up with KRANE, Lewis has dropped off “Sorbet Guts,” a surprise collaboration for the deluxe version of his 2018 EP, Omni.

Featuring a menacing, pitched-down voice and chants, Alexander Lewis brings in the trombone while booming production comes in for a quick but heavy drop. The energy subsides for a brief interlude, as a rumbling bassline and speedy drums precede a wonky breakdown. Filled with distortion, slow synth work, and loads of bass, this powerful track is just icing on the cake of an already impressive project.

It’s a good week for drum & bass. Feint has teamed up with vocalist Heather Sommer for a brilliant new NoCopyrightSounds release, “Shockwave.” This new release dips back and forth between melodic drum & bass and heavier, wobble-laden interludes that make “Shockwave” appealing to fans of the full drum & bass spectrum. This track is feel-good drum & bass at its finest, and Feint’s production remains unparalleled.

Twenty-five-year-old Ram Records has released its annual drum & bass compilation, and with it comes a slew of exclusives and classics. UK producer Culture Shock makes his mark early in the 60-song collection with the emotive “There For You” as the second track. This touching track pulls the listener in right from the beginning with its infectious vocal hook and builds — with the help of some elegant synth melodies — into a welcoming drum & bass number.

RL Grime‘s NOVA has received an impressive array of remixes since its release in July. The final installation, released this week, features hot takes from artists from Vincent to Valentino Khan to Alexander Lewis, who’s crafted a heavy trap take on “Take It Away.” Lewis’ signature horns add an extra punch to the bassline and command a more authoritative and fiery atmosphere than the original, making it a standout on the latest remix compilation.

Hidden Face has had a steady stream of solid songs this year, never seeming to slow his release schedule. A stringed melody demands the spotlight in his latest, “Flowers,” which is backed by a steady deep house beat to drive it along. Intermittent snaps and twinkling notes comprise two brief interludes, giving the song an extra element of diversity. With countless releases this year, 2019 is sure to hold even more stellar work from the mysterious Parisian artist.

Tut Tut Child began a new project in August called Forest Knot, in which he creates a new song each month for a year. Each month since then, he’s been thrilling old and new fans with ambient and contemplative tunes he’s composed from years of traveling. He told listeners to “expect downtempo, explorative electronica, filled to the brim with real sounds,” and he’s delivered on that promise with a gorgeous tune called “We Walk Through The Streets Of Lisbon.”

Brownies & Lemonade has spent years making a name for itself on the Los Angeles party circuit. Now known for putting on shows with impeccably on-trend bass, trap and future artists, open aux cord nights, secret venues, even more secret lineups, B&L has become a stalwart in the LA electronic scene through grassroots measures.

But the spontaneous and secretive nature of the events they put on is now shifting. After weeks of teasing new party locations on Twitter, the group announced its first-ever Brownies & Lemonade tour. Featuring the party’s frequently featured artists like Alexander Lewis, CRAY, KRANE, Luca Lush and Vincent, the tour will kick off on September 29 in San Diego. With nine total dates culminating in a show on December 8 in Houston, Brownies & Lemonade will tour the western half of North America. In February 2017, Alexander Lewis released the first track from what would later become the seven-track Omni EP. The iconic “March” track has since garnered more than 1 million SoundCloud streams, wowing listeners with its uniquely bold trombone stabs. In the many months since that initial release, the musician has continued to unveil pieces of the EP, including the intense “Clockwise” with Nick Row.

Now, Omni is out in full. It includes collaborations with fellow brass enthusiasts Brasstracks, rappers S’natra and Armani White, and many more. Smooth vocals, hip-hop beats, and bright instrumentals unite in this beautifully genre-smashing collection of originals.

Made Event‘s titanic New York-based festival, Electric Zoo, is celebrating its tenth birthday this Labor Day Weekend, August 31st–September 2nd. Alexander Lewis has done it again, this time adding his smooth production touch to TOKiMONSTA‘s “Don’t Call Me” featuring Yuna.

The original, which came out in summer 2017, featured a sultry R&B vibe contrasted with choppy vocal elements that tucked it in comfortably with some of the EDM trends at the time. Lewis has taken the steamy atmosphere up a notch by adding mesmerizing layers of synths and a subtle trap beat. He builds his instrumentals around Yuna’s polished vocals, letting them take center stage and continue to drive the original message of the song.

Lewis’ remix is part of TOKiMONSTA’s Lune Rouge Remixed compilation, which also features reworks from Felix Cartal, Sofi Tukker, and more.
