William Black offers up ethereal re-work of Illenium’s ‘Good Things Fall Apart’

“Good Things Fall Apart” is an ethereal, highly sentimental piece on its own. The Illenium and Jon Bellion collaboration, off the former’s latest album, showed off the producer’s penchant for a crossover record while maintaining the signature future bass sound he’s been pushing since his break. As the dust settles after the album’s release, remixes have begun surfacing—and William Black‘s take on “Good Things Fall Apart” is looking to be a standout from fan reactions.

Black honors the ethos of the original, but presents a more electronic-leaning interpretation. Percussion trills and light piano chords wrap around the euphora-inducing synths of the original, adding even more body and complexity to the finished product. These elements make a nice bed for Jon Bellion’s voice, which is edited ever-so-slightly to fit perfectly within this new structure.

Fittingly, William Black is currently touring as Illenium’s support. Check out more information here.

The most important day of every week: New Music Friday. As each week brings a succession of new music from some of electronic music’s biggest artists, here’s a selection of tracks that shouldn’t be missed.

At 20 years of age, Finnish newcomer Alinsky has created a prominent sound that carried over from his harder dance beat days on SoundCloud to more emotional pop-friendly productions. “Traces,” featuring IOLITE, is proof of this evolution.

VALENTINE & Rob Araujo team up on a glitchy, funk-infused ballad, “Embrace,” featuring rap/hip-hop versing from patches. The result is a lighthearted track that is quirky and wildly unique.

Lowly Palace is a known place for captivating chill/melodic tracks that lure listeners into gripping and emotional compositions. Newest from the collective comes an effortlessly beautiful track, “I’m Sorry I’m Gone,” by Midoca & badXchannels.

MYRNE has taken on Diplo, MØ & GoldLink’s “Get It Right.” It was only a matter of time before the Mad Decent-supported producer took on something of Diplo’s — and the result is a completely revamped track with energizing twists and turns.

Long-time crowd favorite Culture Code is finally back, and the pair has just released their first track working together again as a duo, titled “Crazy Love.” The song is a bouncy summer single with a happy-go-lucky appeal.

Unlike Pluto is one producer whose unique indie productions turn heads upon every new release. The Atlanta-bred, LA-based producer has been releasing mix-“packs” of singles that have been making his fans scratch their heads. Newest in that line of releases is his third track “pack” release in less than a month, consisting of “JOLT” and “WHY.”

Andrew Rayel has teamed with Corti Organ and Max Cameron to release an epically euphoric new single, dubbed “New Dawn.” The progressive track is sure to get big room crowds soaring to their highest of heights.

New Orleans-based experimental bass duo sfam has been gaining notoriety with their quirky sound sampling and left-field composition directionality. The producers have been steadily releasing a plethora of tunes, with the newest arriving July 6, “fresh produce,” along with fellow rising LA producer UNTITLD.

Hot off the decks from Tchami’s CONFESSION label comes a 2-track project from Bellecour’s minimal/tech house vault. Check out the duo’s new Propeller EP.

Just a few months off a statement making EP on WAKAAN, trap producer Minnesota releases a heavy new composition on Outer Realms. The track, dubbed “Final Frontier,” was a previous ID from many of his sets over 2018. Brace yourselves, this one needs subs to make out those lows.

DA favorite William Black has released another emotional upbeat ballad, “Hallucinate,” featuring the beautiful vocals of Nevve.

Dzeko has branched away from his progressive house duo to release “Try Not To Love You” with Aspyer. The track features the same energetic progressive builds as a typical Dzeko & Torres track with some new surprises.

British duo CamelPhat are up to their usual psychedelic tech-house games with a new project, dubbed The Solution, featuring two tracks that will each take listeners on a journey in their own right.

JETFIRE and Karmatek team up for a Eastern-driven commerical house single, “Living on the Edge.”

William Black gets sentimental with his remix of Lione’s ‘Glimmer’

Orange Country producer William Black has become known for his uplifting tunes that dazzle listeners with emotional melodies and future bass elements.

After discovering his love for music at the age of 16, he began to wonder how he could turn this dream into a reality. A couple years later, he attended Icon Collective in Los Angeles, which features a roster of talented artists such as NGHTMRE, Jauz and Kayzo.

Now Black finds inspiration in Lione‘s “Glimmer,” which speaks to reminiscing on an old relationship. He takes the original, which had a Porter Robinson feel to it, and turns it into a sentimental late-night tune full of vibey plucks, beautiful vocal chops and strategic percussion that perfectly build with the track.

William Black – I Wish (ft. Skylr) [The Remixes]

When William Black released his heart-wrenching future bass ballad, “I Wish,” with the hypnotizing vocals of Chicago singer/songwriter SKYLR, the Hegemon artist began turning industry heads. With elements reminiscent of an early Illenium or Flume product, the single built a euphonious landscape that creatively captured themes of love and loss in supreme eloquence.

With the song’s continually growing success, Black decided to enlist three official remixers to put their own unique visions on the original composition. From the vocal chops and lo-fi textures of Notok’s reimagining, to the colossal breakdowns in Matte & Kuur’s rendition, matched with the synchopated drum work and piano accompaniments of Yetep & Toku’s take, each remix begins subtly so as to respect the vision of it’s original and, from there, embarks on its own singular journey through the sonic elements.

William Black – Here At Last ft Rico & Miella

Future bass visionary William Black joins forces with electronic duo Rico & Miella on “Here At Last,” the latest release in Black’s “emotional dance music” catalog. A lively platform for Rico & Miella to show off their vocal chops, “Here At Last” couples the pair’s fluid vocal contributions with a lively beat that derives much of its vivacity from its exuberant synth work. William Black and Rico & Miella’s collab is indeed “Here At Last,” an ebullient single worth the wait.
