Good Morning Mix: Above & Beyond craft a mesmerizing mix on ‘Anjunabeats Volume 14’Above Beyond Abgt

Anjunabeats Volume 14 has arrived and Friday morning has never sounded so good. After two years, UK trio Above & Beyond have released the latest edition of their compilation series — Anjunabeats Volume 14. Encompassing tracks from both Anjuna artists and the beloved trance act themselves, Vol. 14 melds the poignant styles of both imprints Anjunabeats and Anjunadeep into one ephemeral listening experience that not only testifies to Above & Beyond’s curation abilities, but also exemplifies the diversity of talent harbored within the imprint’s roster. With a synergy unlike many other labels and a signature sound ubiquitously championed by all its artists, Anjuna continues to dominate dance-floors, arenas, and clubs alike. Mixed in the midst of Above & Beyond’s thrilling journey alongside their 2018 album Common Ground, Vol. 14 pushes forward an expanding vision of trance and deep house over the course of a two-disc, 34-track collection.

Weaving together Anjunadeep picks, Disc 1 eases the listener in by starting off with mellow, hypnotic tracks and gradually building into the euphoric energy permeating throughout most of Vol. 14. By the conclusion of Disc 1, the listener has been fully primed for Disc 2’s intensity which brings with full-force a brand of progressive trance made for stadium capacity. With selections bursting with nuances in production, pace, and soundscape, Vol. 14 features Anjuna favorites like Spencer Brown, Andrew Bayer, Sunny Lax, Jason Ross, and more, while simultaneously highlighting new remixes and updated mixes. Including a Dave DK remix of Andrew Bayer’s “In My Last Life”, Tinlicker remix of Above & Beyond’s “Always”, i_o’s remix of Above & Beyond’s “Alchemy”, updated Above & Beyond mixes of their own songs “Liquid Love”, “There’s Only You”, “Alone Tonight”, “Distorted Truth”, and releases from Ilan Bluestone, Oliver Smith, GRUM, and more, Vol. 14 will go down as one for the books.

Anjunabeats artists speak on imminent Spring Awakening takeoverSpring Awakening 1

Over the years, Spring Awakening Music Festival has hosted a wealth of Anjunabeats artistry, from Arty, to Lane 8, to the label bosses themselves: Jono Grant, Tony McGuinness, and Paavo Siljamäki. But this year, the Above & Beyond-pioneered dance music destination is bringing its very own branded stage to the largest electronic music event in the Midwest, ushering in the summer festival season June 7-9.

Dancing Astronaut had a chance to catch up with some of Anjuna’s standout acts, all of which will perform at Spring Awakening’s brand new location, Poplar Creek in Hoffman Estates. The Illinois-bound Anjuna repertoire includes some of the fiercest faces in trance and progressive house, including Spencer Brown, who received rave reviews for his debut studio album released last year under Anjuna, Illusion Of Perfection, as well as veteran Anjuna acts like Grammy-nominated Andrew Bayer and longtime globetrotting duo, Gabriel & Dresden.

Tickets to Spring Awakening, as well as general festival information are available here. For more information on Anjunabeats, head here.

Spencer Brown
“I am so pumped to be back in one of the most passionate music cities in the world for Spring Awakening. I will be bringing plenty of new unreleased music with me; see you on the dancefloor.”

Andrew Bayer
“I love playing in Chicago. The food is great but the people are even better. Can’t wait to play at Spring Awakening for the first time.”

Gabriel & Dresden
“We are super excited to return to Spring Awakening Music Festival. We performed at the first one in 2011 and that gig has always stayed with us. This time it’s going to be even more special because we get to share it with our Anjuna Family who always brings the good vibes and energy.”

Jason Ross
“I always look forward to coming to Chicago – easily one of my favorite cities in North America. Performing on the Anjunabeats stage at Spring Awakening this year is going to be epic.”

Oliver Smith
“Chicago is one of my favourite places to play. I have a strong following there and the fans are always so knowledgeable about the music. Can’t wait to visit Spring Awakening Festival for the first time too.”

Tinlicker

Lane 8 slips into spring with new Anjunadeep EP

Lane 8 prepared his fans for the kickoff of the 2019 vernal months in early March with the release of his three-hour spring mixtape, and he has now followed it up with his first release of the season: a six-track Anjunadeep EP.

The Feld / Anthracite EP made its debut on the label on April 30, featuring an original solo track, a collaboration with Tinlicker, a Ryan Davis remix, and three extended mixes. The EP gives listeners a variety of ways to digest “Feld” and “Anthracite,” spanning dynamic and mellow house atmospheres in shorter and extended-cut formats.

“Feld” in its original format opens with a merry melody, leading the listener on an introspective journey over the course of its four minutes. “Anthracite” with Tinlicker takes a more contemplative approach, opening with calming vocals and adding on layers of meditative synth melodies as it progresses. Davis lends both a remix and an extended mix of “Feld” to the EP, bringing a minimalist, otherworldly glow to Lane 8’s original vision.

Tinlicker continue their crusade to progressive success on ‘About You’ EP

2018 was an impressive year of brand building for Tinlicker. The Utrecht-based duo erected a strong point of view in their own unique progressive sound with consistent original and remix releases throughout the year. It’s clear that they’re not stopping this momentum any time soon with the release of a four-track EP on mau5trap. This time, About You takes us through a story told in an ebb and flow of dark melodies. Its title track, for example, is a bittersweet vocal tune that tugs at the heartstrings with warm synth progressions and a soothing low-end. This emotive atmosphere turns out to be a motif of the EP,  manifesting itself through mysterious riffs in “Gone Girl,” stark melodies in “Less Than A Minute,” and finally, through classic deadmau5-inspired synthwork in “Patchwork.” It’s safe to say Tinlicker are looking like dance music juggernauts in 2019.

It’s most important day of the week: New Music Friday. With a refreshing amount of tunes hitting the airwaves today on the first NMF of 2019, Dancing Astronaut has you covered with the latest edition of The Hot 25.

Perhaps one of the biggest releases of today is a mega collaboration from Seven Lions, Wooli, Trivecta, and Nevve called “Island,” which is packed with cascading melodies and powerfully emotive beats. Lost Kings have also arrived in full force, releasing their Paper Crowns EP, which is headed up by “Don’t Kill My High” with Wiz Khalifa and Social House. mau5trap has released their We Are Friends, Vol. 8 compilation, which features 35 tracks from some of the label’s best rising acts, including i_o, ATTLAS, No Mana, and more. Hardwell kicks off his 2019 releases with “Being Alive” with JGUAR, and Sofi Tukker delivers four remixes for “Benadryl,” including a breezy take from TOKiMONSTA. Ghastly and G-Rex have joined forces on the formidable “Heretic,” and Tom Staar puts a grooving twist on Oliver Heldens‘ “Fire In My Soul.” 3LAU taps the talents of vocalist Carly Paige on his newest, “Would You Understand,” and Galantis‘ “Emoji” gets a rework from BEAUZ in their new remix pack.

As each week brings a succession of new music from some of electronic music’s biggest artists, here’s a selection of tracks that shouldn’t be missed this NMF.

Lane 8’s ‘Little By Little’ remixes continue with Tinlicker’s take on ‘Clarify’

Lane 8’s ‘Little By Little’ remixes continue with Tinlicker’s take on ‘Clarify’Tinlicker Dancefair Masterclass

Tinlicker is the latest to get in on the extensive remixing of Lane 8‘s 2018 album, Little By Little. The Dutch duo whose futuristic progressive style has solidified them as creative, focused producers whose star is on the rise in their own right. Joining recent remixers Dirty South, Anderholm and Ben Böhmer, Tinlicker has brought their touch to Lane 8’s “Clarify,” a track that in its original form drew up a melancholy cinematic expanse, featuring moody vocals from Fractures. Set up nearly as a blank landscape with an opening for the addition of melody and complexity, Tinlicker took their opportunity seriously.

While Lane 8 might share some stylistic qualities in his music that complement Tinlicker’s own musical vision, the end result of this remix is stunning. It’s like they’ve taken centuries to build this piece brick by brick, constructing at a slow but “just right” pace. Eventually unveiling melodies that intertwine in a daydreamy, entrancing dance together, this remix poses big opportunities for Tinlicker in their future. It also continues the anticipation for the release of many more remixes from Little By Little.

If Lane 8‘s sophomore long player Little By Little was a mixtape (and he’s definitely fond of those), it would be worn out and dinged up from binge-listens by now. The album was certified feels front to back, with Lane 8’s trademark analog warmth oozing from every track. Although the “Little Voices” producer hasn’t held back on the new music front since the LP’s release, that didn’t stop him plotting to give even more legs to Little By Little with a full 10 artists already named for the project. The list reads like a who’s who of melodic dance music, with stalwarts like ATTLAS, Dirty South, and Fairchild alongside fresh This Never Happened label mates Ʌ V O U R E  and KHAEN. The remix album promises a fresh dose of deep and emotive takes, all reaching for a very high bar set by the original album material.

The stack of reworks is set to drop October 4. Lane 8 will fittingly be in the midst of the Little By Little North American tour’s second leg. Can’t wait until release day to hear those juicy remixes? Catching them tucked into an upcoming Lane 8 set is your best bet.

Gabriel & Dresden ft Jan Burton – Underwater (Tinlicker Remix)

Since unveiling their chart-topping second studio album, The Only Road, back in December, Gabriel & Dresden have seen continued success. As a result, Dutch duo Tinlicker have offered a unique edit of one of the album’s highlight tracks, “Underwater.”

Released off Anjunabeats, the remix takes Jan Burton‘s bold vocals from the original, increases the tempo, and adds a steady bassline under dark, arpeggiated synths. Before a massive Tomorrowland appearance, Tinlicker will be joining Lane 8 on his “Remember the Future” tour on July 7 in Utrecht, Netherlands.

Deadmau5‘s struck an underground gold mine, and luckily, he’s happy to share the wealth.

After an exciting string of announcements amidst the mau5’s final BBC Radio 1 residency show, the big cheese has thrilled fans with a more immediate gift. Fans of deadmau5’s radio show can relish in a complete collection of the music the artist slung out over the course of the last year thanks to the amusingly-named Spotify playlist “for a lack of a better playlist.”

From the music of Pryda, Gallya, ATTLAS, No Mana, Josh Butler, Rinzen, and many more, Mau5trap‘s gathered together the show’s complete 207-track long list that’s plenty easy to get lost in for 22 hours and 42 minutes if one feels so inclined.

Mau5trap’s looking towards an eventful new year. With fresh music from Joel Zimmerman, a new show, new signees, and more, it’s a good time to be a fan of the label, indeed.
