Electric Forest‘s hometown of Rothbury, Michigan will reportedly welcome the venerated dance music/jam band festival for another 10 years, thanks to the village council’s 5-2 vote on Monday in favor of extending event producers, Madison House’s permits.

The new permit’s body text allows for the potential of an additional early arrival day, which most recently has fallen on Wednesday; though, if Electric Forest’s producer’s comply in supplying the village with ample notice, the festival could begin on Tuesday for its 2020 installment, currently pegged for June 25-28.

The village will also collect a gradually rising surcharge from ticket buyers, to go toward county infrastructure—namely warranted road repairs from prodigious festival traffic. The surcharge will max out at $7.50 per ticket sold.

Council members Robert Fulljames and Village President Scott Beishuizen took issue with some the parameters of the extension. While Fulljames cited Madison House getting the “cheap” end of the deal, Beishuizen pointed out the lack of local vendors operating at Electric Forest in recent years.

Formerly Rothbury Festival (an all jam and rock roster), Electric Forest began in 2011. Organizers recently stretched the festival to two weekends in 2017 and 2018, though recently reverted back to a single-weekend format in 2019.

Electric Forest is pulling out all the stops for their single 2019 edition. The festival recently scaled back their two weekend offering back to their original one weekend format, though organizers were quick to even it out with the delivery of 2019’s lineup. To say next year’s billing is stacked would be an understatement — ODESZA, Kygo, Bassnectar, and Zeds Dead are holding down headlining duties, with festival favorites The String Cheese Incident returning for a three-night run. The under card features a mile-long list of talent headed to Rothbury, Michigan including Claude VonStroke, Alison Wonderland, Bob Moses, Lettuce, Ekali, Whethan, Gramatik and many more across June 27 – 30.

SLANDER and NGHTMRE are billed for a GUD VIBRATIONS label showcase, with Snails, TOKiMONSTA, The Knocks, and Bloodpop all slated for Electric Forest 2019 as well. Live sets from Gorgon City, Pnuma, and Ookay are expected, along with jam band flavors and a healthy serving of hip-hop from T-Pain. See Electric Forest 2019’s full lineup below.

Electric Forest announces return to single-weekend format

Electric Forest is a festival that entrances and exhilarates its attendees with a top-notch lineup and a unique, beautiful venue. With so many dedicated fans, Electric Forest expanded into a two-weekend format in 2017 – an effort to cut down on crowding in the campgrounds and provide a versatile experience for the festival-goers. However, in a recent announcement, the festival has revealed that they will be returning to the single weekend format in 2019.

The Insomniac-hosted festival has noted that this plan is part of a larger effort towards the conservation of Sherwood Forest. 2019’s iteration of the event will include “upgraded landscapes, areas with new grass, and infrastructure improvements across the site.” Though this may be a blow to some die-hard, two-weekend members of the Forest family, the idea of conserving the land for future generations of attendees is something that definitely is in line with the Electric Forest philosophy.

The 2019 edition of Electric Forest will take place June 27-30 in Rothbury, Michigan. Wristbands and lodging packages will go on sale at 12 p.m. EST Friday, December 7. Learn more here.
