Ultra Music Festival (UMF) has proven its RESISTANCE brand to be a well-oiled industrial machine that unceasingly manufactures some of the finest house and techno lineups in the modern festival circuit. The revelations of its 2019 lineup continues this process. For its 2019 edition, Ultra Miami will present the RESISTANCE concept in an unprecedented manner, devoting a considerable portion of the Virginia Key festival grounds to what UMF organizers have newly dubbed “RESISTANCE island.”
In the midst of RESISTANCE’s luster gleams a back-to-back Carl Cox set. Ultra maintains the mystery for now, as festival organizers currently conceal of the name of Cox’s back-to-back partner behind the decks, which Ultra will expectedly declare at a later date. Ultra Music Festival will record its inaugural edition at its new home of Virginia Key from March 29-31.
2019 will be a year of revision for Ultra Music Festival (UMF). The flagship festival of the international UMF brand, Ultra Miami will not only be facing changes of a locational kind. Ultra announced in November that it would host its 21st iteration at Virginia Key Beach Park, following the City of Miami Commission’s rejection of Ultra’s request for a contract renewal at its longtime home of Bayfront Park. As Ultra organizers prepare for a change of scenery, they’ve also quietly announced a series of major adjustments to the event’s organization. Ultra’s underground oriented RESISTANCE stage will occupy its own “island” within Virginia Key, while the festival’s UMF Radio, Ultra Worldwide, Live Arena, and Mainstages will remain clustered in another part of Virginia Key Beach Park, the Miami Marine Stadium.
In previous years, Ultra has spread its house and techno acts across its Megastructure and Arcadia Spider stages, but appears to have abandoned the Arcadia Spider stage this year. The Spider is notably not listed among the many stages that Ultra will run in 2019 in any of the promotional material that event organizers have disseminated to date. Ultra’s ASOT stage will return to carry on its legacy at Virginia Key, and will be flanked by Martin Garrix‘s STMPD Records stage, Richie Hawtin‘s PLAYdifferently, and ODESZA‘s Foreign Family Collective stages, which round out Ultra’s collection of branded areas. It currently remains unclear whether Ultra will replace the Spider with a novel new stage, to restore the sixth stage that the festival loses in the Spider. Although the fate of Ultra’s sixth stage is suspended in uncertainty, the caliber of the first phase of the festival’s lineup is assuredly one of Ultra’s finest.
Following its expansive debut at Ultra Mexico City last year, Ultra‘s Resistance production will return to Mexico City as a standalone festival from May 25 through May 27th at Club De Golf in Teotihuacán. The venue offers an open air atmosphere and panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. The event promises a colossal showing of techno, tech-house and house artists across multiple stages and state of the art production.
RESISTANCE will debut its first ever, standalone three-day festival this May in Mexico City!
Pioneering a touring concept of underground talent, Ultra’s Resistance concept continues to infiltrate global markets with events in cities such as Bristol, Buenos Aires, Miami, Rio De Janeiro and Tokyo, to name only a small fraction of the hosted events.
Ultra Music Festival unveiled their RESISTANCE lineup for UMF’s flagship Miami edition, ahead of the festival’s 20th anniversary in March. The lineup is directly in line with the underground thematics of RESISTANCE, an intra-Ultra brand that caters to house and techno fans. RESISTANCE will host some of the underground’s most storied acts across its Arcadia Spectacular “Spider” stage, and its tented Megastructure arena.
A host of additional artists will also provide support across both stages. While the RESISTANCE lineup is nothing short of stunning, it is not yet complete—festival organizers will announce the rest of the performers that comprise the RESISTANCE Miami lineup in the weeks to come. Tickets to Ultra Miami’s 20th anniversary from March 23–25 can be purchased here.
