Reddit users have uncovered what appears to be coordinates for North American venues on Porter Robinson‘s Virtual Self website.

Virtualself.life was updated on July 9 with a set of latitude and longitude figures that seem to indicate venues across the United States and Canada. Though no dates have been announced, these coordinates appear to indicate a tour outside of the festival circuit the producer is currently on. Robinson is set to appear at Audiotistic, Tomorrowland, Hard Summer, Creamfields and more under his Virtual Self moniker before summer is over.

“Apparently I don’t share enough,” joked Mat Zo on Twitter ahead of his latest Reddit AMA. The iconic producer and proud has always has quite the cheeky sense of humor.

It hardly feels like he needs to share much at times, however, given his track record of bold, yet pristine releases that have made their way onto Anjunabeats and beyond. His ability to adopt any style — from drum ‘n’ bass, to trance — into his range with finesse while remaining grounded and good-natured has made him a household name across the dance spectrum, with many dedicated fans hungrily consuming all they can about him.

That said, Zo still shared plenty during his brief stop at Reddit, divulging details about upcoming music, offering advice and lessons he’s learned through his time in the industry, sharing his favorite Beatles song, and more.

Justice fan posts memorial for deceased iPod on Reddit, then something remarkable happens

This post was originally published on this site

Oftentimes, we build up our most revered icons into deities — in tune with their fans, but maintaining a considerable a degree of celebrity disconnection. Its hard to imagine Daft Punk or Carl Cox surfing the comments sections or sifting through Reddit, but alas, we are sometimes reminded in humbling ways that our favorite creators are just people too. Recently, redditor and Justice fan effennekappa took to the forum to express a memorial post celebrating the lengthy life, and now tragic death of his resilient 160GB iPod. The mp3 brick, adorned with a decal of Justice’s iconic †, belonged to its owner for a decade before it succumbed to natural causes.

“I’ve spent 10 years with this 160gb monster in my pocket, it’s been with me in every single trip, journey and commute I’ve made since I was 20. Today it played its last song. Farewell, you magnificent bastard,”

lamented effennekappa in the thread’s headline.

But as the post began picking up traction online, something remarkable happened. Lo and behold, the Parisian DJs eventually hopped into the thread to pay their respects, offering to personally replace the man’s iPod. The post became one of Reddit’s top posts of the day, with the duo even mentioning they’d replace the iPod with some added new music. Could this mention of new music be Justice’s upcoming studio/live album concept? That would make for a legendary album teaser, but for now, we’re reminded that Xavier and Gaspard are a regular couple of mensches, and even when we’re not awarte of it, sometimes our favorite artists are watching us closely too.

In an act of online activism, Childish Gambino fans are reclaiming the r/Donald subreddit

This post was originally published on this site

Until last week, r/thedonald was a subreddit where Reddit users gathered to share posts related to the 45th President of the United States, Donald J. Trump. Despite the subreddit’s description as “the place where we discuss in an unbiased manner Donald Trump’s great contributions to modern society,” the page is littered by hate-filled posts from people who look to Trump as a twisted savior of sorts, sent to save the American public from its diversity thugs.

Over the past week, however, fans of Donald Glover have taken the subreddit page by storm, posting memes and photos of the actor/rapper in a collective effort to reclaim “the Donald” name. At the very least, the move is a response to Childish Gambino‘s potent, racially charged “This is America” music video release. At best, it’s a form on online activism. And the most wonderful part is — it’s actually working. The subreddit page is now almost solely devoted to Childish Gambino/Donald Glover.

The following post, for instance, has been upvoted more than 45,000 times.

The One True Donald from thedonald

Another post draw some starkly accurate comparisons when juxtaposing the two Donalds, forcing subredditers to stop and question.

Not a racist ✅ Not a rapist ✅ Can read ✅ Was never bankrupt ✅ Likes Mexicans ✅ Talented ✅ Pays his taxes ✅ Handsome ✅ Loves immigrants ✅ Not a puppet for Russia ✅ Doesn’t want to fuck his daughter ✅ Must be the real one true Donald ✅ from thedonald

Finally, one post moves to campaign for a Donald Glover run for presidency. Step aside, Kanye.

Made this to screen print. Thought it fit well here. from thedonald

The hope is that if enough Donald Glover fans start posting on r/the_donald, they can reclaim this subreddit as well. In a world where activism can take many forms, users of social media are realizing the digital domain as a space for creating First Amendment political movements and reclaiming hateful digital spaces as places of empowerment.

A cryptic SoundCloud upload has some speculating it’s a Daft Punk ‘leak’

This post was originally published on this site

Daft Punk Resident Advisor

Activity on the r/daftpunk subreddit is momentarily diverting ticket holders’ attention from the Swedish House Mafia rumor mill, and directing it instead toward Daft Punk‘s.

The speculation surrounding a Daft Punk reunion on the final day of Ultra Music Festival has continued to mount since the iron-on patches enclosed in the Ultra 20 ticket canisters originally spawned speculation that Daft Punk would close out the festival. A SoundCloud upload entitled “x” by a “User19972001200420132019” has made its way to the r/daftpunk, and despite some Redditors’ doubts, many believe the track to be an “unconfirmed leak” of some kind. The moderators of the subreddit reportedly know the source of the “leak” and have determined that the SoundCloud post could be legitimate.

User19972001200420132019’s supposed leak has since been compared to a previous “leak” of “Overnight,” a single that Daft Punk released in 2017. Redditors have also questioned the significance of the username. Some perceive the series of numbers to be arbitrary, whereas other have suggested that the years represent album release dates.

Comment from discussion x.

The SoundCloud post surfaces — for now — as a connection to a possible Daft Punk anniversary performance at Ultra Music Festival that is tenuous at best.

Reddit users appear to have cracked the code concerning Ultra’s surprise guests

This post was originally published on this site

ultra

The three iron-on patches that Ultra Music Festival ticket holders received in their special edition black and orange 20th anniversary canisters appeared in addition to ear plugs and temporary tattoos. Presumed to be innocuous party favors provided in honor of the milestone birthday celebration, the patches elicited minimal attention from pass purchasers prior to Ultra’s provocative tweet on March 10.

Ticket holders have since begun to interpret the three patches enclosed within each ticket canister as emblematic of the three unannounced acts that will close each respective day of the festival this year. The analysis has led several aspiring attendees to evaluate the circular patch with a singular dot as evidence that deadmau5, whose eye matches the design of the patch, will deliver the ending performance to the first day of Ultra.

Mind = blown. from r/UMF

The theory that Swedish House Mafia will give a reunion performance at “Ultra 20” on March 24, 2018 — four years to the day of the mega group’s previous closure of the festival — is convincingly supported by fans’ conjecture that the three dots on the flag-shaped patch stand in for the three members of the trio. Fans have read the patch’s two additional dots as signifiers that Swedish House Mafia will close day two.

The final, and inarguably the most explosive conjecture, rests in the identity of the third patch, an astronaut holding up three fingers. From the white and orange/gold color scheme to the astronaut logo itself, ticket holders have analyzed the third patch as proof that Daft Punk will make a landmark return to close out Ultra’s last day on March 25.

However far-fetched or plausible the speculations seem, good guesses will remain just that — good guesses — until festival organizers release the final phase in Ultra’s bombshell lineup.

Student translates Star Wars’ ‘Cantina Theme’ into a mathematical equation [Watch]

This post was originally published on this site

The Star Wars subreddit has unearthed a new, unusual gem.

Reddit user ‘smallgoblin’ has ascended to Reddit royalty after posting a video clip that shows the user converting the movie series’ ‘Cantina Theme’ into a mathematical equation.

“It started with x+4…and I couldn’t unhear it,” smallgoblin wrote of the experiment, “Instead of doing my math homework I figured out what the Cantina Theme would sound like if your instrument was a pencil.”

The formulaic result would be x + 4783 – x + 4v|VE| (x + 4)(f – 711) = A, an answer that when worked through comes out to be ~299,792,457, or in other words, the speed of light, when measured in meters per second.

Smallgoblin’s post has since become the fifth most-upvoted post of all time in the history of the Star Wars subreddit.

See r/EDM’s highest voted electronic songs and albums of 2017 [full list]

This post was originally published on this site

The people of r/EDM have spoken.

As streaming platforms like Spotify compile end of year playlists comprised of the year’s most popular dance tunes, so too does Reddit‘s electronically focused r/EDM subreddit. The subreddit has produced a list of 2017’s “Highest Rated” songs, albums and EPs, and throwback posts, using user submitted Reddit ‘up-votes’ to calculate the year’s crowd favorites.

The democratic approach sees Reddit visitors elect The Chainsmokers & Coldplay‘s “Something Just Like This” as the highest rated song of the year with 497 votes. The full list features a total of 30 tracks, with Skrillex‘s remix of “Humble” registering in second place with 443 votes, and Illenium‘s “The Sound of Walking Away” weighing in at third with 373 points. Kygo, Martin Garrix, Marshmello, and ODESZA likewise rank, speaking to a resurgence of preference for mainstream releases among voting Reddit users. Porter Robinson‘s opaque Virtual Self alias charts twice on the highest rated list for “Eon Break” [303 points] and “Ghost Voices” [245 points], reflecting a general fondness of the DJ’s new pet project. Virtual Self’s eponymous EP is duly noteworthy for its placement as fourth on the subreddit’s grouping of the highest rated albums and EPs.

Reddit voters exhibit a collective inclination towards ODESZA‘s A Moment Apart, the platform’s top voted album of a total of ten albums/EPs with 561 points. Avicii’s Avīci EP receives the second most votes at 528, while Illenium’s sophomore album attracts the third most, earning 441 for Awake. Kaskade‘s debut seasonal album, Kaskade Christmas also emerged as a highly celebrated release, securing the eighth spot on the list.

r/EDM’s Highest Rated Throwback Posts category is as selective, as the subreddit’s Highest Rated Albums/EPs section, made up of only ten tracks. A testament to the memorable quality of Porter Robinson’s original productions, “Language” sits at the top of the list, likely gaining newfound popularity in the wake of Robinson’s foundation of Virtual Self. Skrillex’s Scary Monsters & Nice Sprites EP claims the succeeding position, while Justice‘s “Cross” follows.

The publication of the subreddit’s statistics has elicited a variety of responses from r/EDM users, with some finding the results to be an “expected” but paltry reflection of the year’s most widely acclaimed electronic releases, whereas others alternatively identify the lists as those that are accurate in their identification of listeners’ dance preferences this year. While the findings are indicative only of the listening trends of those that voted, the charts denote just where voters’ fan favorites were concentrated, with the utmost transparency nonetheless.

Ekali and Zhu team up for stunning new release ‘Blame’ [Free Download]

This post was originally published on this site

2017’s holiday season is a gift that keeps on giving. OWSLA announced on Twitter that Ekali and ZHU’s long awaited collaboration has not only been released, but it is available for free download.

The track, titled “Blame,” opens with characteristically ZHU vocals and pulsing synths as accents. An elaborate collection of chords roll into a delicate yet commanding drop taking the listener through a sonic journey. “Blame” is an interesting combination of low and high energy moments leaving the listener both soothed and energized after the tracks closing chord.

Ekali originally premiered the track at Life is Beautiful and later confirmed on Reddit that it was indeed a collaboration between him and ZHU. The track was released just as the Canadian producer’s Babylon tour has come to an end. Meanwhile, Zhu has been busy working on his collaboration with Adidas.
