For 16 years, Red Bull BC One’s storied breakdance competition has pitted one B-Boy against one B-girl in a head-to-head showdown that requires all participating dancer to bring their very best to the floor as they vie for the coveted title of world champion.
After preliminary qualifying rounds held in cities around the globe, the veteran breakdance battle will conclude its 2019 iteration in Mumbai, India, where 16 of the competition’s highest caliber break dancers will face off. Each are motivated by a common goal: secure the belt.
The Red Bull BC One breakdance competition builds on the rich history of the style of dance, which has it roots in the 1970s. Breakdancing grew out of the hip-hop culture of New York city and quickly diffused, connecting individuals of all sorts of diverse backgrounds through the universal language of hip-hop and the breaking movement, which proved a perfect physical complement to the genre.
