Audien is back. Twenty-seven-year-old Nate Rathbun ended 2018 on a high, dishing out a 40-minute “XMAS MIX” and joining Dancing Astronaut for a pre-Holy Ship! 12.0 playlist.
In 2019, he’s returned to shore with a fresh new remix of Calvin Harris‘ latest hit, “Giant” featuring Rag’n’Bone Man. The single gained some recent traction after Harris gave a live performance at 2019’s BRIT Awards, with appearances by Dua Lipa, Sam Smith, and Rag’n’Bone Man himself. So, Audien’s rendition is sure to give it another boost.
As his first release of the year, Rathbun steadily maintains the chill elegance of the original, putting emphasis on the keyboard progressions behind Rag’n’Bone Man’s dreamy vocal runs. Yet, the real Audien flare comes in lead synth form, dropping into a horn-filled deep house groove with added pitch vocals.
The Connecticut-born DJ heads to Ravine in Atlanta on March 8, which will be release day for his upcoming single, “Favorite Sound,” featuring indie pop band Echosmith.
Calvin Harris gave a sensational-as-always performance at Great Britain’s hottest award show, the BRITs, taking home two accolades in the process: one for British Producer of The Year (he’s Scottish) and Best British Single, for “One Kiss,” with Dua Lipa. This is Harris’s first pair of BRIT Awards after fourteen total, unsuccessful nominations in years passed, dating back to 2009.
Harris’s performance was bolstered by heady vocal accompaniment from some of his most illustrious collaborative partners, old and new, including Sam Smith (“Promises”), Dua Lipa (“One Kiss”), and Rag’n’Bone Man (“Giant”). The quartet stitched the ubiquitous hits into an exquisitely over-the-top live medley, with Harris all the while spinning from center stage, ensconced by a kaleidoscopic sound system and effervescent disco ball shining overhead. There’s rarely a dull moment with Harris and company on the scene.
Calvin Harris and Rag’n’Bone Man‘s recent appearance on The Graham Norton Show was an electronic excursion to the sumptuous soul of “Giant.” Harris and Rag’n’Bone Man jointly stopped by the talk show to deliver a live rendition of their collaboration, originally released in January of this year. The artists performed the tune under the glow of rose LED lighting, on a stage bedecked with lush, green vegetation. The verdure of the decor lent a naturalistic ambiance and tranquility to the scene, as Rag’n’Bone Man’s crisp baritone voice delivered the song’s uplifting lyrics.
A small group of backup singers positioned just off to the side of Rag’n’Bone Man chimed in at choice moments, to complement the power of the singer-songwriter’s lyrical delivery. Harris mans the deck just behind Rag’n’Bone Man, to assist with the track’s melodic instrumentals. As in the studio-recorded original, Rag’n’Bone Man’s vocal work is a warm and impassioned statement of self.
Calvin Harris has teamed up with fellow Brit, soulful crooner and singer-songwriter Rag’n’Bone Man on a new single entitled “Giant.” Out today with an uplifting lyric video to match, “Giant” is the musical manifestation of the “New Year, New Me” mantra: a reminder of the freeing nature of turning a new page and the self confidence that comes with it. The track’s production sees Harris lean in to the pop edge of his superstar DJ persona, with danceable melodic instrumentation keyed out by electric piano as its main guide. Rag’n’Bone Man seals the deal on “Giant” with inspiring lyrics delivered through his signature sincere baritone voice.
Calvin Harris has what sounds like another chart-topper on his hands. A short, albeit sweet, preview for a new collaboration with English vocalist Rag’N’Bone Man has surfaced, signaling another hit is likely underway for the superstar Scottish producer.
Rag’N’Bone Man, Breakthrough British Act at the 2017 Brit Awards, is carving out success behind his rich, deep crooning. In the newly released preview clip for the forthcoming collaboration, dubbed “Giant,” the emerging singer’s smooth vocalwork is paired with Harris’ buoyant piano chords, in what sounds like a seamless follow up to last year’s sweeping Sam Smith-assisted hit, “Promises.” Preview “Giant” below ahead of its official release on Friday, January 11.
