Markus Schulz celebrated more than the start of 2018 during early morning hours on January 1.
During his open-to-close set at Hollywood’s Avalon club, the iconic DJ became a future husband with his proposal to longtime girlfriend, Adina Butar. The crowd cheered for the beaming couple as confetti cascaded down, making for quite the romantic and memorable moment.
Butar – a vocalist and songwriter – and Schulz met back in 2014 while collaborating on a track together. It didn’t take too long for their collaborative work to evolve into a full-on partnership, with Butar becoming a prime member of the Coldharbour family.
Romance seems to have swept the professional DJ world as of late. Dimitri Vegas tied the knot with his beau in September, with Tiësto also making himself an engaged man earlier in December.
Australia joined the ranks of 25 other countries to officially legalize gay marriage on December 7, causing a wave of celebration over a legal battle that has been drawn out in the country for 13 years.
Alison Wonderland was on tour in home country at the height of festivities surrounding this development, and thus decided to use her gig in Sydney to show her support in an emotive fashion. The songstress assisted a woman in making her proposal unforgettable bringing the happy couple on stage and later giving them a shout-out on Twitter while expressing pride in her country.
The battle for marriage rights began in 2004, when the parliament amended the Marriage Act to ban the institution for gays. Since then, an overwhelming display of support for the return of their rights led to a new vote that officiated gay marriage as a legal right.
Dance music couples dream of marriage proposals at beach festivals in Fiji. For one lucky couple, that dream came true this week, and to top it off, Skrillex facilitated the whole moment on stage.
Your Paradise is currently one of the most remotely set and intimately produced festivals in the world, and among the tropical good times at this year’s event, one attendee, Malcom, took the opportunity to ask the apple of his eye, Jess to spend the rest of their lives together (awwww). Malcom grabs the mic and with Skrillex at his back hushing a lively festival crowd, gets down on one knee and professes his love for his mate to the overture of an a capella version of “Where Are Ü Now.” Then the newly betrothed couple launch into the crowd of an obligatory “we’re getting married!” crowd surf as the beat drops. Moments like these are why we love dance music most.
