Korean pop star teamed HYO up with 3LAU for the sassy “Punk Right Now” in late 2018, drafting both English and Korean iterations. Months later, the track has been given a bold rework by Madeaux, who’s put his signature dark, bold stamp on it with a booming bassline and formidable builds. His steamy style works effortlessly with HYO’s unabashed vocals, and the result is a remix that’s equally gritty and cohesive. Madeaux’s rework is part of a three-track remix EP also includes takes by KUURO and Raiden.

Dutch producer Maduk has returned with a brilliantly diverse three-track EP via Liquicity Records. In the EP’s opener, “Go,” Maduk teams up with vocalist Lachi to craft a euphoric drum & bass piece that delivers the listener directly to the heavens with spirited horns and soaring vocals. “I started working on ‘Go’ one year ago and the instrumental gave me so much energy and happiness right away,’ Maduk says in a release. “I have never recorded this many brass instruments (trumpet, saxophone, trombone, tuba) for a track before, so it’s very exciting!”

French artist Icy Lust has gone through a huge life transformation over the past year. The former web developer quit his job and moved to Paris study sound engineering at Abbey Roads Institute, something he calls one of the best choices of his life. “Lots of things started to get clearer,” he told DA. “Got surrounded with inspiring people, lost myself in deeply listening to music that enhanced my moods. I started to really ask myself what do I love, feel, and what kind of stories my brain builds through those records. It has been a whole introspection, and still is.” His newest track, out now via Tasty, takes place at this turning point. It’s a beautifully and deeply introspective piece, comprised of moody melodies and lush vocals. His future knows no “bounds.”

Essenger‘s clear knack for production and knowing what “works” shines brighter and brighter with each release. The Kansas City artist has only been releasing music under this moniker for less than a year, but he’s already made a name for himself with innovative originals and unique takes on songs like deadmau5‘s “Strobe” and WRLD‘s “Rooms.” His latest is an original called “Afterburner,” which he’s branded as a “synthwave/alt.” The single is much more than either of these classifications, however. He builds slowly, with emotive vocals and twinkling melodies. The chorus, however, takes off like a rocket, with a powerful guitar melody and racing synths. It’s a gorgeous blend of nostalgia-inducing synthwave and something that’s all Essenger’s own.

Party Ghost‘s latest is a brief but satisfying number, packed with all the elements that comprise an ear-catching piece by the California producer. “Thinking About You” marks his first release since December’s “Wraith,” which was a decidedly darker piece. This latest one has a wistful and dreamy atmosphere to it, sprinkled with lighthearted melodies and subtle bass. Distant vocals of “I’ve been thinkin’ ’bout you” weave in and out between a bouncing beat, creating the easygoing environment of someone caught in a daydream. Its message is simple and sweet.

Oliver Nelson is back with another polished disco tune. In “Talk,” Linae’s glossy vocals complement Nelson’s production perfectly, creating a disco atmosphere that’s both modern and retro. The original comes as the Swedish producer’s first release since his January collaboration with Tobtok, “99 Red Balloons.”


I stumbled across a visionary trio a few days ago and was intrigued by the combination of synthwave and Fleetwood Mac. Brooklyn musicians Jaguar Dreams used “simple instruments and modern machines to feed the primitive appetite for dance” in this cover, and it’s a dreamy, gorgeous wonderland. Did I mention that this is their first release ever? The future is bright for this trio.


No matter the feelings toward Drake‘s smash hit “In My Feelings” and its accompanying viral dance movement, listeners will surely appreciate this take from talented brass aficionados Brasstracks. Abandoning Drizzy’s vocals for bright horn stabs, the duo have crafted an infectious rendition that’s packed with power and energy.


Party Ghost‘s venture into darker music has led to some incredible productions. His latest, “Cloak and Dagger,” is completely unpredictable. It gathers momentum slowly, building and dropping into pounding, shadowy bass, followed by another surprise that hits just before the two-minute mark. Incorporating dubstep and heavy wobbles into the final part of the track, Party Ghost demonstrates there’s nothing he can’t do.


Rameses B has been on a roll this year, dolling out one drum & bass masterpiece after another. For his latest, though, he’s followed up his January Spacewalk album with its second installation: Spacewalk II: Zero Gravity. This psytrance track, “Space Race,” is perhaps one of the most upbeat of the album and is both delicate and complex at the same time. “We are explorers and diverge with grace because no matter which path we choose we end up exactly where we need to be,” he says of the album. “Music can tell that story and this music can help us get there.” Couldn’t agree more.

Since he started releasing music again at the beginning of last year, Party Ghost has been on a roll with originals. Each one’s been quite varied in style, tied together with his signature dark and somewhat glitchy vibe. “Kill,” released in early April, slams its listener with deep, reverberating bass — much like his most recent: “Phantom.” This stormy, brooding vibe is executed perfectly in “Phantom,” though it’s more subdued than its April predecessor. “In the year 2145 the world is ran by Spectre Industries,” Party Ghost notes in the song description. “The story begins with Phantom.”


Ryan Browne has been consistently wreaking havoc on the dance music world with fiery remixes and originals that put a hardcore twist on tracks like Krewella‘s “Alive” and Alison Wonderland‘s “Messiah.” In his latest, a cover of the classic “Everytime We Touch” by Cascada, Browne whips out the drum sticks for a powerful take on the 2007 classic, mixing in elements of hardstyle and dubstep for a rendition that’s not for the faint of heart.


Armada powerhouse Armin Van Buuren has followed up his mid-April “Therapy” with the release of a funk-injected remix from Throttle. The Melbourne artist has made a name for himself with groovy hits like his take on “Hit the Road Jack” and his remix of Earth, Wind & Fire’s iconic “September.” His “Therapy” remix looks to be another stellar addition to his discography, as he adds a classic disco vibe to James Newman’s vocals.


There are few things I love more than the mixing of genres. German drum & bass duo Neonlight have put a VIP spin on one of their own tracks, combining gorgeous orchestral elements, soaring electric guitar and a drum & bass rhythm for a formidable four-minute venture. Its action-packed, cinematic feel is bolstered by hefty bass and dramatic builds that leave the listener wanting more as the synths peter out at the end.


Fresh off a four-track NEST HQ EP, Canadian duo Chuurch have come back with a sultry remix of REZZ and 13‘s celebrated collaboration, “DRUGS!” Digging into the style they call “lean bass,” the pair have crafted a remix saturated with wobbles and weighty bass. REZZ and 13’s haunting melody drifts in and out of the remix, allowing the duo to carry it through while adding their own unique twist.

There’s a serious shortage of glitch hop on my radar lately, so I’m delighted when some pops up. I’m a long-time fan of Au5 and his incomparable style. He crafts flawless, ethereal soundscapes that never fail to impress with their otherworldly qualities. He’s reworked APEK‘s “Supernatural” into a remix that juxtaposes Stassi’s delicate vocals with heavy glitchy elements. It’s both melodic and hard-hitting, which I love.


This next track continues with the theme of otherworldly music. WDMA’s “I Walk Alone” is an intense adventure of a track, containing elements of deep and tech house. Throughout its four-minute length, the song goes through an array of phases, making it more of a story than a song. With gorgeous builds and serene vocals, “I Walk Alone” caught my ear from first listen.


Stonebank and Darren Styles have teamed up for a legendary happy hardcore track on Monstercat called “Sky Is Falling.” With dreamy vocals from EMEL, the two top-notch producers are pushing BPM boundaries with this latest collaboration. As with many happy hardcore releases, the verses shine with emotive vocals, building up to a fiery, fast-paced drop. It’s addicting.


Party Ghost is back releasing music, and all is right with the world. Less than a month after the release of “Alone,” the Californian producer is back with a shimmery new track called “Keep Me Around.” The track focuses on Party Ghost’s vocals over a simple guitar melody, taking a minimalist approach to his music. Though it’s a bit melancholy, “Keep Me Around” still has catchy elements that keep the listener hitting “repeat.”


For his latest piece of work, GoodSex has released a remix of fellow Chicagoans Win & Woo. GoodSex gives the track a sultry vibe, with a deep bass line that gives the chorus a gritty, rough-around-the-edges feel while still maintaining top-notch production quality. It’s reignited my love for “Recognize” in an entirely fresh way.

In July, REZZ released a collaboration with an unknown artist named Knodis. “Premonition” was a mysterious, dark journey, capturing the attention of REZZ fans across the globe and leading them to wonder who this “Knodis” could be. His social media profiles disclose little, other than that he makes “space music.” Earlier this week, he released his latest original song, following his first solo venture later in July. “The Machine Is Feeling” is a complex, trippy composition that has been well worth the wait in between releases. Knodis’ use of computerized sounds truly make it sound like “The Machine Is Feeling.” I’m looking forward to hearing more from the producer in 2018.


2017 has been a year of me trying to get my hands on as much content from The Midnight as possible. The duo have created a ton of beautiful music in the past few years, inspiring other artists to remix their songs. Chillwave duo We Are All Astronauts just released their heartfelt remix of The Midnight’s “Synthetic,” an emotion-packed song from The Midnight’s 2016 album Endless Summer. Their take on “Synthetic” is a “post-rock” rendition, highlighting rare vocals from Tim McEwan over a beautiful bed of stringed instruments and piano. We Are All Astronauts have taken an already passion-filled song and brought out the best features for a refreshing — yet almost wistful — take on the song.


Around 2013/2014, Party Ghost was one of my favorite artists. His unique style of full of dancing synths and fun vocals was ahead of its time, and I looked forward to each new release. As time went on, releases from the California producer dropped off. I was thrilled when a new release popped up on SoundCloud earlier this week. “It’s been awhile since I released anything,” he says in the song description. “I wrote this song about a year ago. I feel like I changed a lot as a person and as a artist. I hope you enjoy this new song. I have many more to come.” This new track contains traces of his older music, but also brings an entirely fresh feel to it.


Drum & bass remixes are often unpredictable. I’ve been keeping an eye on 1991 since his stellar remix of Chris Lake‘s “I Want You” and was thrilled to see he’s remixed one of drum & bass’ biggest talents right now: Camo & Krooked. With an ambient introduction that highlights the vocals, 1991 takes his time to building up to a classic drum & bass drop around the two-minute mark. It’s well worth the wait, as he’s crafted a remix that is packed with energy from start to finish.


For a few years now, miƶu has been releasing top-notch remixes and originals, gathering a modest following while doing so. After finding his music through an emotive Ember Island remix last summer, I was hooked on his versatility and the pure quality of the music he was putting out. Apprehensive as I was to see he remixed Madeon, my doubts were immediately wiped away in the first few seconds of his “You’re On” remix. miƶu has created a thrilling take on the standout Adventure track — one that’s entirely different from the original. This remix toys with Kyan‘s vocals, chopping them up into a glitchy, whirling soundscape. It’s so much fun, just like the track it’s built from.
