I’ve loved Maduk and Dennis Pedersen‘s “Miles Apart” since its release last spring and was intrigued to see that Fox Stevenson had done a remix of the tune for Liquicity‘s Reflections Part 3. In true Fox Stevenson fashion, the producer has flipped the tune into a more energetic iteration, complete with his own harmonies underneath Ella Noël’s. It’s flawless.

Tobtok‘s name seems to be popping up everywhere, and his funky vintage style of house music keeps drawing me in. His latest is a collaboration with Adam Griffin and vocalist Hayley May. With a bold, anthemic melody and steady grooving beat, “The Stand Off (I Want You)” is irresistible. The Swedish producer knows how to craft tunes for the dance floor, and this is ready for just that.

Last month brought the arrival of a new Dimension song, “If You Want To”—an aggressive drum ‘n’ bass number with a dramatic, foreboding tone. Here in the following month, the British producer has reworked his own song into an electro interpretation, fueled by the sultry spoken vocals. This one has a more laid-back feel, but its underlying orchestral elements give the tune a bit of an eerie feel.

At long last, the second remix EP for The Midnight has arrived via Silk Music. It’s been more than two years since the release of the first one, but it appears lush remixes featured on this new collection have been worth the way. This take on the Nocturnal song is breathtaking, as Kobana builds a rich sonic landscape with his progressive house-inspired version of the song.

Essenger‘s new single, “Tether,” combines a wide range of styles effortlessly. It opens with a wistful guitar melody, leading into a nostalgia-fueled verse from the producer, who does his own vocals. “Tether” drips with emotion from start to finish and seems to encourage the listener to look inward and absorb the very soul of the song in a raw and real way.

It’s most important day of the week: New Music Friday. With the overwhelming amount of tunes hitting the airwaves today, Dancing Astronaut has you covered with the latest edition of The Hot 25.

Zedd and Kehlani kick things off this final Friday of September with their new collaboration, “Good Thing,” and Boys Noize links with Francis and the Lights for “Why Not?” Kaskade keeps it mellow on his new collaboration with TELYkast, “No One Else,” and Zeds Dead join forces with Funkin Matt an Fiora for “Feel So.” AC Slater’s new album includes tunes like “Bad Behavior” with Chris Lorenzo and Purple Velvet Curtains, and Mercer takes on DJ Snake and Majid Jordan’s “Recognize.” Golf Clap and MASTERIA deliver “Mystery Scene” on mau5trap/Insomniac, and Gareth Emery follows “Laserface 01 (Aperture)” with “Laserface 02 (Thoughts In Pieces).” Dimension remixes himself on “If You Want To,” and Gorgon City reveal “Warehouse Mix” and “Terrace Dub” iterations of “There For You.” Tritonal team up with Rosie Darling on “Never Be The Same,” and NGHTMRE remixes Saven Lions, SLANDER, Dabin, and Dylan Matthew’s “First Time.” Galantis bring their piano-filled joy to “Holy Water,” and Tinlicker reveal their new LP, This Is Not Our Universe. Anna Lunoe and Nina Las Vegas cook up a weekend heater, “One Thirty,” and YehMe2 remixes Matoma and Bryn Christopher’s “All Around The World.”

As each week brings a succession of new music from some of electronic music’s biggest artists, here’s a selection of tracks that shouldn’t be missed this NMF.

When Haywyre‘s “Tell Me” first came out last November, I was immediately hooked. It’s effortlessly funky, incorporating Haywyre’s own vocoder-filtered vocals and array of bright and blissful synth and keyboard elements. As part of a set of remixes, Notaker is the latest to take on the groovy tune. The St. Louis producer has put his own moody, atmospheric spin on the original, packing a serious punch with dramatic builds and hefty bass. It gives an entirely different tone to the piece, and it’s breathtakingly powerful.

Disco overlords Goshfather and Aylen are at it again. The duo have a joint two-track EP out, featuring the previously released “Found You” and the debut of “Coastin’.” The tune seeks to continue the effortless, sun-soaked tone of the summer months, incorporating a retro melody and carefree lyrics to move the steady bassline along. It’s hard not to move your feet to this one.

Liquicity mainstay Maduk is back with new heat. The Dutch producer teamed up with Calixte to create a truly infectious tune. “Everytime” seems subdued enough in the beginning, but steadily builds into a mighty drum ‘n’ bass song. A piano melody and rushing beat carry Calixte’s vocals beautifully from start to finish. “Everytime” is a tune that’s as alluring as its hypnotic cover art.

Fans of Metrik have long anticipated the arrival of “Gravity.” The release is the first time Metrik has ever featured his own vocals, and the addition rounds out what I believe is one of his best releases in recent history. “This track represents a new wave of music I’ve been developing using my voice, guitar & synthesisers and is the purest expression of my sound yet,” Metrik said of the release.

UKF is celebrating its 10th anniversary, and with it comes an exclusive set of singles and EP from the notable platform. The latest of these is Kove‘s “Le Retour,” a drum ‘n’ bass number with cheery horns and an irresistible overall retro style. It’s quite a swerve from its predecessor, “Motor,” which had a decidedly darker feel to it, but the difference in the songs just demonstrates Kove’s ridiculously wide range when it comes to production and sound design.

Dutch producer Maduk can usually be found creating drum ‘n’ bass or putting together incredible end-of-year mixes for Liquicity, but his latest is a bit different. He’s teamed up with NoCopyrightSounds to release his latest, “Go Home,” which kicks the BPM up to 175 and uses emotive female vocals to draw the listener in. As always, Maduk’s production is top-notch. He crafts flawless builds and drops around the vocals and again shows why he’s one of the most promising faces of today’s drum ‘n’ bass scene.

I have long enjoyed Direct‘s unique downtempo craftsmanship and was pleasantly surprised to see he’d teamed up with Telomic and Matt Van to produce a drum ‘n’ bass track for Galacy’s Identities compilation. His style of production flows effortlessly with that of dnb artist Telomic, and wistful vocals from Van complete the trifecta. Sharp percussion and anticipation-building crescendos and decrescendos give this piece a crisp feel. It’s both clean and emotive—a beautiful combo.

Mysterious producer Kuumo makes his debut on Spanish imprint Inextremis with a powerful number called “Interact.” The artist is a clear fan of Porter Robinson (he’s categorized other works as “Porterstep”) and the influences shine strongly in “Interact.” Kuumo uses vocals in multiple languages, putting glitchy effects on them amid sparkling synth melodies. He even uses a filtered guitar theme toward the end, bringing together a multitude of elements that comprise his unique style.

Wheezly’s newest release is an intergalactic drum ‘n’ bass journey. From start to finish, this piece exudes energy—often in unexpected ways. While the producer starts off with a dnb rhythm, he switches it up for an eerie, pounding bass pattern on particular drops, giving the listener an opportunity to experience the supernatural atmosphere often found at a REZZ show and a hectic dnb rave in the same song. Despite its twists and turns, “Stay Back” manages to feel cohesive and well-rounded.

For his latest release, Jason Ross has reworked a track of his own, “New Dawn.” This “club mix” of the experimental Rooms EP track is a gorgeous trance re-imagining, as Ross paints a colorful and atmospheric soundscape perfect for a late-night dance floor. Where the original “New Dawn” served as one big, beautiful build, the club mix sees Ross rework its heavenly facets into a dramatic and dynamic nightclub heater. With pounding bass and soaring melodies on the drops, the “New Dawn” club mix thrills both fans of the original and those who just can’t leave the dance floor.

Korean pop star teamed HYO up with 3LAU for the sassy “Punk Right Now” in late 2018, drafting both English and Korean iterations. Months later, the track has been given a bold rework by Madeaux, who’s put his signature dark, bold stamp on it with a booming bassline and formidable builds. His steamy style works effortlessly with HYO’s unabashed vocals, and the result is a remix that’s equally gritty and cohesive. Madeaux’s rework is part of a three-track remix EP also includes takes by KUURO and Raiden.

Dutch producer Maduk has returned with a brilliantly diverse three-track EP via Liquicity Records. In the EP’s opener, “Go,” Maduk teams up with vocalist Lachi to craft a euphoric drum & bass piece that delivers the listener directly to the heavens with spirited horns and soaring vocals. “I started working on ‘Go’ one year ago and the instrumental gave me so much energy and happiness right away,’ Maduk says in a release. “I have never recorded this many brass instruments (trumpet, saxophone, trombone, tuba) for a track before, so it’s very exciting!”

French artist Icy Lust has gone through a huge life transformation over the past year. The former web developer quit his job and moved to Paris study sound engineering at Abbey Roads Institute, something he calls one of the best choices of his life. “Lots of things started to get clearer,” he told DA. “Got surrounded with inspiring people, lost myself in deeply listening to music that enhanced my moods. I started to really ask myself what do I love, feel, and what kind of stories my brain builds through those records. It has been a whole introspection, and still is.” His newest track, out now via Tasty, takes place at this turning point. It’s a beautifully and deeply introspective piece, comprised of moody melodies and lush vocals. His future knows no “bounds.”

Essenger‘s clear knack for production and knowing what “works” shines brighter and brighter with each release. The Kansas City artist has only been releasing music under this moniker for less than a year, but he’s already made a name for himself with innovative originals and unique takes on songs like deadmau5‘s “Strobe” and WRLD‘s “Rooms.” His latest is an original called “Afterburner,” which he’s branded as a “synthwave/alt.” The single is much more than either of these classifications, however. He builds slowly, with emotive vocals and twinkling melodies. The chorus, however, takes off like a rocket, with a powerful guitar melody and racing synths. It’s a gorgeous blend of nostalgia-inducing synthwave and something that’s all Essenger’s own.

Party Ghost‘s latest is a brief but satisfying number, packed with all the elements that comprise an ear-catching piece by the California producer. “Thinking About You” marks his first release since December’s “Wraith,” which was a decidedly darker piece. This latest one has a wistful and dreamy atmosphere to it, sprinkled with lighthearted melodies and subtle bass. Distant vocals of “I’ve been thinkin’ ’bout you” weave in and out between a bouncing beat, creating the easygoing environment of someone caught in a daydream. Its message is simple and sweet.

Just like Dancing Astronaut rounds up 25 of the biggest songs of the week for the Hot 25 Spotify playlist each New Music Friday, Lunar Lunes serves as a landing pad for SoundCloud users who want a whole new dose of tunes to kick off the work week.

Just one week after the release of his massive “R U I N” collab with 1788-L, Ekali returns with an emotive remix of Alina Baraz and Khalid‘s “Floating.” Rusko brings a new body of work to Deadbeats in MEGARAD, and Hermitude links with Hoodlem for the slow-burning “Every Day.” K?d throws it back with a grinding remix of SMF’s 2011 “HAHAHA,” and Modestep and Virtual Riot make a formidable trio in their new Disciple release, “Nothing.” Brasstracks paint a soulful soundscape with a slew of smooth releases in their new R&B-oriented EP, Before We Go, and KDrew unleashes his first track of the year, “Sometimes.” Apashe takes no prisoners in his new The Good The Bad & The Fake EP, and KUURO take on 3LAU and HYO in a new remix of “Punk Right Now.” Two Friends put their own spin on Panic! At The Disco’s “High Hopes,” and Grabbitz turns The Japanese House’s “Lilo” into an upbeat wonder. Justice Skolnik throws it back more than a decade with a fresh take on Justice‘s “D.A.N.C.E,” and Phantoms tap Shaylen for “Are You Up.”
