LIOHN – Bone App The Teeth

In case you hadn’t realized by his tongue in cheek mashups or quirky artwork tendencies, Swedish newcomer LIOHN has quite the sense of humor. That isn’t to say that his run of solid, genre-defying releases has been child’s play though. Back after a brief Summer hiatus following his May She Propser EP, the young Nordic talent jumps back with a quick reminder that his ear for a slick beat still comes second to none. Warping the soundtrack to Katy Perry’s questionable public meltdown, “Bone App The Teeth” is part side slapping bootleg and part essential set weapon, cutting into LIOHN’s urban chops to assert that this could well be a very real-time discovery of the Swedish producer’s next evolutionary step.

With A-list kudos ranging from Diplo to Ingrosso, Swedish newcomer LIOHN is a tough act to box. His discography currently scales main room, digestible club and outright weird sounds, but debut single ‘Blue Pt.1’ successfully ushered a fresh phase of future R&B swagger that truly out the 19-year-old talent on the map. ‘Over U’ is a moody, bitter and love torn pop track decked in the weirder hallmarks of LIOHN’s growing studio repertoire. Landing in a less polished remit than that of his American dance-pop peers whilst honoring some of the gloomier post-trap sounds, it feels like LIOHN is building towards setting his own tempo if this initial run of singles is anything to go by.

Swedish newcomer and Diplo approved producer LIOHN burst onto the radar with high profile remixes for both Galantis and Major Lazer. Having since made with a viral bootleg of Kanye’s own ‘I Love Kanye,’ the world has patiently awaited signs of original material from the 19-year-old studio whizz. With his debut mixtape promised for the first quarter of 2017, ‘Blue Pt.1’ is a solid introduction to LIOHN’s budding solo prowess. Cut from the future R&B cloth and fusing razor sharp hooks with bouncy instrumental swagger, his debut single sets a coherent middle ground between the urban pop and contemporary electronic landscape. From seemingly out of nowhere, LIOHN swoops in to suggest that there may be a new force to watch emerging from Sweden where 2017 is concerned.
