Young Thug taps Elton John, 6LACK, Jaden Smith & more for ‘On The Rvn’ EPYoung Thug On The Run On The Rvn Album Stream 2018 1

Young Thug‘s released the highly anticipated On the Rvn EP.

Despite its fair share of setbacks and Thugger’s arrest earlier this year, the rapper’s managed to nab a who’s-who of artists for the work, creating an experimental roster that spans generations and genres while putting diehard fans at ease.

This is Thugger for the radio. With features from 6LACK and Jaden Smith and even a starry-eyed Elton John appearance on the project’s final track “High” — Thugger’s own homage to John’s seminal Honky Château hit “Rocket Man — the EP’s Thugger’s most left-of-field pop star self-positioning to date.

He seamlessly transitions from rapping and singing on the terrifically terrible, and yet beautiful ambient crooning of the EP’s standout “High.” And although the Elton John track initially leaked in August, fans are finally invited to absorb Young Thug’s imperfectly autotuned “I’m a rocket man” croons in full. The rapper’s somewhere out in the stratosphere on “High,” channeling a level of brevity and experimentation that feels grounded solely in its nonexistence, and it’s a theme that runs the entire work.

Kid Cudi and Jaden Smith reportedly want to do a joint project

Kid Cudi interviewing Jaden Smith might be the best thing in hip-hop news all month. Appearing in The New Vanguard Issue of VMAN40, the topic at hand was sparked when Smith congratulated Kid Cudi on his most recent project, Kids See Ghost, and how generally well-received the Kanye-assisted release was. As Cudi begins talking about how much of a dream it was to work with Ye himself, he sneaks in a note on how he and Jaden should collaborate on a project as well. Perhaps the snippet is less an idea in passing and more or a foreshadowing to a future rap collaboration with serious multi-generational appeal.

Cudi offers, “Maybe one day we’ll do an album bro,” to Smith. Of course, the “Icon” rapper is all for it. Smith responds, “I’ll have to get a few more albums under my belt. I’m going to have to grow, but that would be the biggest dream of mine.”

The Man on the Moon crooner continues by praising Smith on how young he started his music career. What’s more — just last year in a Reddit AMA, Jaden Smith revealed his dream collaboration was Kid Cudi. Talk about putting things into existence, fingers crossed for this one.

Crankdat spins some fresh IDs in new Diplo and Friends mix

Christian Smith, a.k.a. Crankdat became a breakout star through remixes for Zeds Dead, Jaden Smith, San Holo, and more. In addition, he’s added some equally successful originals to the portfolio, with his most recent being “Need Somebody.” Now, it seems this positive traction has caught Diplo‘s attention, as the rising producer has officially made his debut on BBC Radio 1’s Diplo & Friends.

Fans are in for a big treat here, as the bass-heavy mix features a wide array of fresh IDs from the Cleveland born DJ. He also blends famed remixes with throwbacks, hip-hop — including tracks by Kanye West and Lil Pump — and dance music anthems such as Galantis‘ “Runaway” and Calvin Harris‘ “Summer” (mashed up with some trap-y goodness). The hour long mix is ever-changing and will make listeners wonder where the time went.

Crankdat is currently on his “Outcast” tour, hitting stops all over the globe leading up to an Electric Zoo 2018 performance come Labor Day Weekend.
