Jack Beats have proven their deep understanding of house music once again with their latest release, The Remedy. Out on their frequent home at AC Slater‘s Night Bass label, the EP shows Beni G and Plus One’s innate creativity in production. Proven across four tracks, this energetic out-of-the-box thinking has become the Jack Beats brand.

The Remedy sees sounds ranging from classic house sampling and piano progressions and tweaky early 2010s-era garnishing — and that’s all just on the EP’s title track. On “Raise It Up,” the duo teamed up with fellow Brits DJ Zinc and MC GQ on a track centering around acidic synths and a wobbly bassline, and with Taiki Nulight on the in your face “Mendo.” All in all, this EP adds to Jack Beats’ impressive resume.

HARD‘s once defunct Day of the Dead property is officially back, slated for November 3 at the event’s original home at LA Historic Park in downtown Los Angeles. While rumors have been circulating since the event’s announcement earlier this summer, and a too-good-to-be-true lineup surfacing shortly thereafter, the southern California events giant has now followed up with their official roster for 2018’s event, and its damn near just as good. Headlining DOTD’s comeback edition is Justice, breaking out their live stage rig for one final outing, exactly six years to the day after the Parisian legends headlined the inaugural Day of the Dead. South African rave-rap pioneers Die Antwoord and Knife Party also top this year’s lineup, along with a stacked cast of supporting acts.

House heroes Thee Mike B, J. Phlip, Jack Beats, and Shiba San also make their way onto this year’s billing, along with Lee Foss, Cashmere Cat, and DNMO among others. Tickets for HARD Day of the Dead on sale September 27 at 12:00pm PST.

Jack Beats return to AC Slater’s Night Bass with ‘Modulate’ EP

In the past decade, DJ Plus One and Beni G have become renowned for the cerebrally energetic brand of house which defines their Jack Beats project. At times aggressive and at times absurd, their music has branched into various directions over time, yet never failed to be engaging or exciting.

This summer, the British duo reemerged from a quiet period, making a foray into straightforward bass house when DJ Zinc called upon them to collaborate on “The Anvil” as part of his Full House EP. Their followup release, however, has proven to be more in line with their signature style.

Released Friday, September 1, the Modulate EP sees Jack Beats return to AC Slater’s Night Bass imprint. The two-track record continues marks the group’s third EP for the label, following last year’s Work It and 2015’s Not No Love. In both “Pump” and “Modulate,” Jack Beats channel their stylistic tendencies of the early ’10s, while evading stagnancy through an exploration of new synth-work.

Much like the element from which he draws his moniker, DJ Zinc has a proven ability for versatility. Over the years, the British producer has shown his hand in releases ranging between house, DnB, garage, and breakbeat, both in his own productions and in releases backed by his Bingo Bass imprint.

Recently, DJ Zinc has drawn the bulk of his inspiration from bass house, which will provide the basis for his forthcoming project, DJ Zinc Presents Full House. On August 25, the artist will release a six-track EP filled with collaborations between himself and UK tastemakers such as My Nu Leng, Chris Lorenzo, and MJ Cole. However, the most scintillating cut from the release is likely its leading single, “The Anvil,” which sees Zinc partner with Jack Beats.

The renowned duo of DJ Plus One and Beni G has been rather quiet over the past couple of years. Indeed, Jack Beats has not put forth an official release since proffering the Work It EP for AC Slater’s Night Bass label last spring. However, duo’s rarity only serves to further excitement surrounding its studio outputs, and their raucous, bass house-driven collaboration with DJ Zinc is no exception.
