Suwannee Hulaween is one annual boutique gathering that is developing a devout following with its expert curation and wildly magical grounds. The Halloween weekend festival, running from October 26-28, 2018, hosts an impressive talent roster that brings an exceptional mixture of jamtronica, emergent bass, and deep house to The Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park in Live Oak, Florida.

Set in the midst of 800-acres of Spanish moss-draped oak and cypress along the black Suwannee River, and complete with the largest bat house in the southeast US, the storied festival grounds have earned a reputation of inexplicable imagination and exploration.

Sitting atop this year’s festival billing is the longtime host band of the festival The String Cheese Incident, plus a top billing of Grammy award winners and nominees featuring live-electronic front runners ODESZA, a South-East exclusive by modern funk icons Jamiroquai, and very special showing by singer-songwriter Janelle Monae on the wake of her blowout Dirty Computer record.

The star-studded billing continues with the reigning king of west coast bass Tipper, five piece American funk band Vulfpeck, multiple sets by leaders of the post-rock dance movement STS9, the alternative radio chart topping wonder of The Revivalists, dark-electro wunderkind Rezz, plus the unique electronic stylings of Gramatik, NGHTMRE, Troyboi, Snakehips, Emancipator Ensemble, Manic Focus & the MF’n Band, Justin Martin, Kill Frenzy, Eats Everything and many more.

Tickets on sale now.

Meet the artists of Suwannee Hulaween 2017: Crywolf

Suwannee Hulaween has become one of the most highly-anticipated gatherings over the past five years. Held annually at the picturesque Spirit of Suwannee Music Park in Live Oak, FL, the festival has gained a veritable reputation as the South’s premier Halloween weekend festival. This year, BassnectarGRiZ, and The String Cheese Incident are among the top acts that will draw a sold-out jam and bass crowd into the festival. To take a closer look, we’ve highlighted some of our favorite acts on the bill from a broad range of genres for a playlist series leading up to the weekend.

The next artist in our series needs little introduction. Crywolf, real name Justin Taylor Phillips, is an electronic music producer, vocalist, and multi-instrumentalist hailing from Los Angeles. Since he started producing music in his college dorm room, Phillips’ atmospheric, melodic take on indie-electronic music has garnered support from the likes of Adventure Club, 12th Planet, Skrillex, Minnesota, and more. He was recently signed with the Always Never label, where his debut Ghosts EP reached No. 18 on the iTunes Dance Charts on its the first day of release. Crywolf joins Hulaween to round the festival bill’s unique, forward-thinking house inclusions for 2017.

“I love Halloween because it gives everyone an excuse to be strange without being judged for it. People don’t express their bizarre sides enough. Hulaween will be the first festival premiere of my new conceptual live set, This Is Negative Space. It is catered to Halloween so well, so I can’t wait for you guys to see it.”

Crywolf has dreamt up a chilled-out playlist to match his personal approach to melodic electronic musical tastes. With a revealing title, “DYSPHORIA,” the playlist comes to DA with some of his personal favorite artists, complete with indie-dance offerings from Rainbow Kitten Surprise and Crystal Castles to tracks with more mainstream dance appeal, like Owen Westlake’s official remix of Tiësto‘s “Knock You Out” (ft. Emily Haines).

Suwannee Hulaween has become one of the most highly-anticipated gatherings over the past five years. Held annually at the picturesque Spirit of Suwannee Music Park in Live Oak, FL, the festival has gained a veritable reputation as the South’s premier Halloween weekend festival. This year, Bassnectar, GRiZ, and The String Cheese Incident are among the top acts that will draw a sold-out jam and bass crowd into the festival. To take a closer look, we’ve highlighted some of our favorite acts on the bill from a broad range of genres for a playlist series leading up to the weekend.

Redefining the possibilities of modern music, The Russ Liquid Test fuses the raw vitality of classic funk with the inventive sound design of electronic production. Songwriter, produce,r and renowned brass specialist Russell Scott heads up the New Orleans-based band. Guitarist Andrew Block and drummer Deven Trusclair round things out, with each providing a distinct musical background deeply rooted in the New Orleans jazz scene. The All Good Records signees have been on a heavy string of releases (with their most recent premiered on DA) while on their 2017 fall tour, stopping at Hulaween this weekend, Oct. 27–29th.

The guys of The Russ Liquid Test have compiled an especially funky playlist for DA, complete with tracks from OpuioMichal MenertBreak Science, and Defunk to go along with GRiZ and Leo Napier’s “A Fine Way To Die” and Pretty Lights‘ new future-analog original track, “Rainbows and Waterfalls.” Here’s what they had to say about their Hulaween playlist:

“This is a good sampler of our musical tastes. Blending the old school with the new school. We try to reconnect the sounds of today with the sounds of yesterday in a unique way in our writing.”

GRiZ begins rolling out first phase of 2017 fall tour, ‘Good Will Continue’

This post was originally published on this site

GRiZ is heading back on the road to shout “funk bad vibes” loud and proud across the country. The man behind the artist, Grant Kwiecinski, who just wrote a daring HuffPo OP-ED, has been busy headlining major festivals all over the country amongst rumors that he is working on a new album.

Today, June 26, Grant Kwiecinski has begun rolling out the first phase of his 2017 tour, deemed “Good Will Continue.” The new fall tour comes as a follow-up to his last, “Good Will Prevail,” which, in a lot of ways, was a response to the overwhelming political negativity that was pervading the country during last year’s unlikely presidential campaign.

The man Grant is thus far scheduled to hit major cities along the West Coast primarily, most notably a two-night stop in San Francisco and, not to mention, Suwannee’s Hulaween in Florida. The grueling one-month long tour schedule does not skip a beat or miss a day from 10/11- 11/11 — reflective of the kind of artistic intensity for which Grant seems to live.
