Monstercat reveals ‘Best of 2019’ list, voted on by fansMonstercat Best Of 2019

After a few days of hard-fought voting, Monstercat fans have selected their top 40 songs of 2019.

The Canadian label revealed that fans picked RIOT‘s “Blackwater” as their No. 1 song of 2019, followed by Bossfight‘s “Overdose” and Grant‘s “Wishes.” This is the second year in a row that RIOT has topped the Monstercat charts, with 2018’s “Overkill” making its mark last year. Other notable releases on the charts include Pegboard Nerds‘ “Gunslinga” and Pixel Terror‘s “Amnesia,” which follow Bossfight and Grant, respectively. Voting for the annual list opened Dec. 3 and closed Dec. 5, and fans were able to vote for up to 10 songs.

In addition to the label’s fan-voted Best of 2019 list, listeners can find Monstercat staff picks in the latest episode of Call of the Wild.

2019 has been a remarkable year for new music.

The past twelve months brought with them a collection of highly anticipated LPs: Madeon‘s Good Faith, Avicii‘s posthumous Tim, Gesaffelstein‘s Hyperion, Illenium‘s ASCEND, along with a Flume mixtape. Notable collaborations like REZZ and Malaa‘s “Criminals,” Seven Lions, Wooli, Trivecta, and Nevve‘s “Island,” and GRiZ and Subtronics‘ “Griztronics” hit the airwaves in blazes of glory. Supergroups like Dog Blood (Skrillex and Boys Noize) and Get Real (Claude VonStroke and Green Velvet) showcased the power of doubling up on brainpower. And, of course, countless singles had us hitting repeat more times than were calculable: Dillon Francis‘ “Still Not Butter,” i_o‘s “House of God,” Habstrakt‘s “De la Street,” Alesso‘s “Progresso,” and so many more.

In no particular order, we present a 30-track collection of our favorite songs of the year, chosen by DA writers and editors.

Habstrakt keeps it ‘Real’ on new single

Slowly but surely, Habstrakt has become one of the most consistent bass house producers currently working. He’s made his living by igniting simple bass riffs with a signature vicious timbre, giving his tracks a unique bite. The French phenomenon’s latest single keeps true to the trend, proving once again why he’s one of the hottest house acts out there.

“Real” comes a part of Habstrakt’s busy 2019, which included a slew of singles and his return to Monstercat. Habstrakt’s effort to close out the year features sharp house percussion patterns with a couple extra perc hits for some added bounce—plus a second-half switch to trap. The percussion sits under a classic Habby synth line and atmospheric screeches, while a drawling guitar riff reminiscent of his 2018 track “Vibin” opens up the mayhem.

Habstrakt had a wild close-out to summer 2019, releasing “The One” alongside an official music video and tour announcement. Since then, the French producer has earned a spot on 1001 Tracklists’ Top 101 Producers list and is currently on his fall headline tour, ultimately taking him through four countries and more than 20 different cities.

To add some fuel to the live show, Habstrakt recently remixed NGHTMRE and Slander‘s iconic track, “GUD VIBRATIONS.” However, he’s stepped aside to let some other producers do the remixing with The One (The Remixes) EP. This batch includes reworks from NGHTMRE, Basstrick, Asdek, Effin, and more.

Released on thriving imprint Monstercat, fellow French producer Basstrick delves into a trap edit, while NGHTMRE’s take is one full of heavy dubstep. Checking off some other genres, Asdek (another French native) provides a bold house beat, while Effin sticks to his roots with dubbed lead synths on the drop. The EP also includes remixes from Unlovable and 22-year-old producer Nitepunk.

Habstrakt will join Boombox Cartel Nov. 1 for a Dia De Los Muertos show in Texas before heading to EDC Orlando on Nov. 8.

It’s most important day of the week: New Music Friday. With the overwhelming amount of tunes hitting the airwaves today, Dancing Astronaut has you covered with the latest edition of The Hot 25.

After the release of their Lost Souls EP earlier this year, Knife Party have tapped Laidback Luke for a groovy remix of “Death & Desire,” and Jason Ross, Dabin, and Dylan Matthew team up for “One That Got Away.” Wave Racer has released a new single, “This N That” with LunchMoney Lewis, and Martin Garrix links with Dean Lewis for “Used to Love.” Walker & Royce tackle Dom Dolla’s “San Frandisco,” and Hot Since 82 takes it one deeper on “Tilted.” Arty lends his spirited hand to Gorgon City and MK’s “There For You,” and Axwell remixes Halsey’s “Graveyard.” Four Tet’s dingbat-riddled moniker unveils new content, and Nicky Romero, Mike Williams, and Amba Shepherd collaborate on “Dynamite.” REZZ and Malaa take no prisoners on “Criminals,” and Golf Clap deliver their iteration of “Let It Go” by Hood Rich and BRUX. NGHTMRE flexes on an interpretation of Habstrakt’s “The One,” and Herobust cranks up the intensity on “Smoke.” Chime keeps the Halloween spirit alive with “Haunted,” and Modestep sound the “Alarm” on their new single.

Habstrakt reveals fiery remix of NGHTMRE and SLANDER’s ‘GUD VIBRATIONS’Habstrakt

Is it 2015? Not quite, but that hasn’t stopped French producer Habstrakt from digging through the dance music archives to unearth NGHTMRE and SLANDER‘s iconic “GUD VIBRATIONS.”

In the four-plus years since the song’s release, it’s amassed millions of streams and found its way into countless festival sets and mixes. The vocals are instantly recognizable, and the lighthearted, punchy drops wormed their way into the hearts of fans across the EDM spectrum.

Habstrakt seeks to reignite the music world’s love for the track with his new take on the song, released on Mad Decent. He toys with the vocals, building to a fiery drop and driving beat that are sure to thrill fans who’ve clung to each of the producer’s shadowy releases with unbridled enthusiasm.

Habstrakt debuts first-ever music video, with Monstercat-housed ‘The One’Habstrakt

Parisian bass music producer, Adam “Habstrakt” Jouneau, has returned to newfangled Toronto label housing, Monstercat, for his debut music video showing and adjoining single, “The One.”

The visual is set, first, on an ostensibly normal nighttime road, but soon contorts into a scorching, Mad Max-esque terrain. The track pulses fervently as the chaos of video’s whirlwind narrative and almost whimsically austere characters whip across the screen. Metallic synths grind and churn, while a heavily pitched-up vocal cut, compliments of Habstrakt’s close friend and longtime collaborative partner, Pauline Herr, skips atop the quixotic production.

The track itself traces Monstercat’s recent synergistic shift into scoring video games, namely the widely popular driving game, Rocket League. “The One” is currently being featured in the game’s official soundtrack.
