Honey & Badger and kramder burst in, guns blazing, on their latest collaboration, “Da Pinte.” This new CONFESSION release seems to be all power at first, but upon introducing a merry piano theme, it’s apparent this trio of artists know how to combine forceful beat with a groovy melody. Between the vocals, pounding bass, and infectious melody, “Da Pinte” has been stuck in my head all week.

Last Island‘s new EP is a work of art. The Scottish artist just unleashed his Sustain EP, which spans five tracks and sounds best when listened to cohesively. “Emerie’s Cave” serves as a clear introduction, leading into a whole collection of some of his best work, including the final track, “Let Stars Fall.” “I wanted to create a euphoric and synth rich sound with the feeling of traveling through into a new world,” he says of the compilation. And that he did.

Astrale has taken on the task of covering and reworking The Midnight‘s formative “Kids.” Starring Essenger on vocals, this duo have revamped the bittersweet nostalgia of the original into a piece that’s fully their own. The initial two minutes feel like an anticipatory build, dropping into a heavier bed of synths for a dramatic ending of the song.

Groovy beats and funky piano melodies abound on AMTRAC‘s new release, “Formal Disco.” Released via his own Openers Records, AMTRAC shines on this latest track, seamlessly melding a smooth bassline with an irresistible melody. He kicked off his 2019 with the more subdued “Just” in February, but he readies himself for the summer months with this more upbeat original, which he says is a “long overdue follow up” to 2017’s “Informal Disco.”

Nora En Pure consistently delivers a sweet-to-the-ears sonic experience, and her latest is no exception. “Birthright,” released in original club mix and radio edit formats, features a serene piano melody, propped up by a low-key backbone of percussion. At seven minutes long, the club mix is primed to serve as a soothing outro for a night of dancing or simply bring a listener peace during a stressful time.

Dutch producer Edlan has been making a name for himself through a variety of Liquicity works over the past few years. Most recently, he’s taken to the label to release his new EP, Go Back Home. The four-track collection offers a diverse blend of his drum & bass production, opening with a dramatic first track that shares the EP’s title. Edlan’s tapped MVE and Neil Hollyn to set the tone for the compilation, and the result is a track that’s peaceful and packed with emotion.

Dabin‘s sophomore album, Wild Youth, made its debut on March 22, showing the full range of his growth since his Two Hearts LP in 2017. On nearly all of the new album’s 10 tracks, Dabin’s collaborated with a slew of talented producers, including Kansas City’s Essenger. These two combined create an emotive force to be reckoned with. They’ve created a melodic piece called “Home” that’s layered with powerful vocals and heavenly piano melodies, tugging constantly at listeners’ heartstrings over the course of the song.

Just before the official start of spring, Mat Zo unleashed some warm-weather music via his new Tracing Steps EP. The Mad Zoo release is comprised of three tracks, plus an extended cut of the previously released “Deep Inside.” In the EP’s opener, “Tracing Steps,” the producer leads the unassuming listener through a sun-soaked introduction of merry string melodies and lighthearted vocals before an unexpected drop takes over. Mat Zo continues to captivate listeners with unpredictable twists and turns—all of the highest quality.

Scottish producer Last Island has taken to Washington D.C.-based label Montaime to release his latest endeavor, “Let’s Go Somewhere.” The new single is full of the ever-grooving melodies Last Island has become known for. Its spirited synth themes are ushered along by occasional clapping and a funky beat, giving the tune a simultaneously funky and laid-back vibe. He calls living on a remote island in Scotland “both a challenge and an inspiration,” but the inspiration is clear and present in his consistently dynamic releases.

Mysterious duo Far Out may be anonymous, but their music certainly isn’t. Their productions are routinely powerful, whether they’re releasing Star Wars remix or taking on Daft Punk’s iconic “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger.” Their latest release is an original, though, creating “Strangers” from passionate female vocals and a healthy dose of bass on the drops. This melodic tune ebbs and flows beautifully and carries a strong message in its lyrics.

It’s most important day of the week: New Music Friday. With the overwhelming amount of tunes hitting the airwaves today, Dancing Astronaut has you covered with the latest edition of The Hot 25.

Tame Impala returns for the first release since 2015’s Currents with the appropriately titled “Patience.” JOYRYDE continues to show 2019 is his year with the release of “YUCK” with GOLD, and Dabin reveals his sophomore album, Wild Youth, featuring tracks like “Home” with Essenger. Gorgon City deliver the tasty “Delicious,” and Illenium teams up with Kameron Alexander for the soulful “Pray.” Tiësto kicks off NMF with a bouncy big room number, “Can You Feel It,” and Blasterjaxx tap Jack Wilby for “Super Friends.” DJ Snake and Eptic take us to the “SouthSide” with their new bass-heavy collaboration, and Kölsch and Sasha deliver a meditative joint effort, “The Lights.” Zedd reveals a remix pack for “365” and Whipped Cream warps listeners’ eardrums on “Time.” Delta Heavy and Muzzy join forces for s hefty drum & bass tune, “Revenge.” Sofi Tukker paint a relaxing soundscape in “Fantasy,” and Lost Kings unveil a remix pack for “Don’t Kill My High,” which includes a rock-inspired take from Sullivan King. SNBRN gets ready for warm weather with “Feel My Love” and Maya Jane Coles takes on Hozier in her latest remix.

Korean pop star teamed HYO up with 3LAU for the sassy “Punk Right Now” in late 2018, drafting both English and Korean iterations. Months later, the track has been given a bold rework by Madeaux, who’s put his signature dark, bold stamp on it with a booming bassline and formidable builds. His steamy style works effortlessly with HYO’s unabashed vocals, and the result is a remix that’s equally gritty and cohesive. Madeaux’s rework is part of a three-track remix EP also includes takes by KUURO and Raiden.

Dutch producer Maduk has returned with a brilliantly diverse three-track EP via Liquicity Records. In the EP’s opener, “Go,” Maduk teams up with vocalist Lachi to craft a euphoric drum & bass piece that delivers the listener directly to the heavens with spirited horns and soaring vocals. “I started working on ‘Go’ one year ago and the instrumental gave me so much energy and happiness right away,’ Maduk says in a release. “I have never recorded this many brass instruments (trumpet, saxophone, trombone, tuba) for a track before, so it’s very exciting!”

French artist Icy Lust has gone through a huge life transformation over the past year. The former web developer quit his job and moved to Paris study sound engineering at Abbey Roads Institute, something he calls one of the best choices of his life. “Lots of things started to get clearer,” he told DA. “Got surrounded with inspiring people, lost myself in deeply listening to music that enhanced my moods. I started to really ask myself what do I love, feel, and what kind of stories my brain builds through those records. It has been a whole introspection, and still is.” His newest track, out now via Tasty, takes place at this turning point. It’s a beautifully and deeply introspective piece, comprised of moody melodies and lush vocals. His future knows no “bounds.”

Essenger‘s clear knack for production and knowing what “works” shines brighter and brighter with each release. The Kansas City artist has only been releasing music under this moniker for less than a year, but he’s already made a name for himself with innovative originals and unique takes on songs like deadmau5‘s “Strobe” and WRLD‘s “Rooms.” His latest is an original called “Afterburner,” which he’s branded as a “synthwave/alt.” The single is much more than either of these classifications, however. He builds slowly, with emotive vocals and twinkling melodies. The chorus, however, takes off like a rocket, with a powerful guitar melody and racing synths. It’s a gorgeous blend of nostalgia-inducing synthwave and something that’s all Essenger’s own.

Party Ghost‘s latest is a brief but satisfying number, packed with all the elements that comprise an ear-catching piece by the California producer. “Thinking About You” marks his first release since December’s “Wraith,” which was a decidedly darker piece. This latest one has a wistful and dreamy atmosphere to it, sprinkled with lighthearted melodies and subtle bass. Distant vocals of “I’ve been thinkin’ ’bout you” weave in and out between a bouncing beat, creating the easygoing environment of someone caught in a daydream. Its message is simple and sweet.

Putting his own “post-apocalyptic horror house” spin on AWAY‘s “Honest to God,” Bloodtone returns in full force. The producer ramps up the energy from the original, bolstering it with a pounding bassline and down-pitched vocals. He calls the original “one of the my favorite electronic tracks that I have heard in the last five years” and brings his own creative flair to the piece by building a dark, eerie atmosphere. He gave a similar treatment to Alison Wonderland‘s “U Don’t Know” a few months ago and returns with an equally sinister reworking here.

F.O.O.L‘s new EP is one of the most fascinating bodies of work I’ve heard this year. Highway weaves its way from mystery-filled synthwave to high-powered electro, teaming up with collaborators like Laura Brehm and Anzo to complete the collection. After releasing the EP’s title track in June, fans knew to expect something dynamic and fresh from the Swedish producer — and that’s precisely what happened. The EP’s second track, “Escape Plan,” follows the synthwave path, thrilling with a frantic orchestral melody and backed by racing ’80s-style synths in the verses. The synthwave takeover is nigh, friends.

Oliverse recent joined the Disciple Records family, and he bursts onto the label with an EP that showcases his versatile production skills. The title track for the EP, “Get High,” is a powerful piece. Catchy vocals lead into a forceful, wobble-filled drop, pounding the ears with a perfect balance of old-school dubstep and contemporary elements. He makes an impressive showing for his Disciple debut, dropping a 30-minute mix just days before the release of Get High. From his Koo remix in 2015 to now, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed observing his experimentation across the EDM spectrum.

The release of deadmau5‘s “Monophobia” with Rob Swire in July led to an onslaught of remixes. Artists couldn’t wait to get their hands on the mau5trap masterpiece, and rightfully so. It’s been reworked every which way, but one in particular’s caught my ear. Essenger took the time not only remix “Monophobia,” but cover it as well. His take is a minimalist, garage-influenced one, leaving space for the listener to absorb the dreamy essence of his production and vocals. A guitar melody takes the place of the song’s plucky introduction, leading the unassuming listener into a dramatic synthwave switch-up about halfway through the cover. It’s a refreshing and compelling take on the original.

There’s just something special about this 11-minute piece from Chasing Dreams. I first heard it at the beginning of a Gorm Sorenson Silk Music mix and was captivated by its gorgeous ascending melodies and peaceful atmosphere. “The One Who Watches” begins with a simple piano melody and leads into harmonious chords, gently easing the listener into the serene soundscape that lingers long after the song has come to a close. It’s an uplifting, hopeful piece that’s part of Chasing Dreams’ Ascesa album, which has been described as “a lingering, gentle, pensive rise presented as a melodious milkshake of stories, experiences, and feelings.”
