Skrillex reconvenes with Boys Noize and Ty Dolla $ign at the ‘Midnight Hour’ [Stream]Skrille

With Skrillex officially back on the one’s and two’s thus far through 2019, the sun has steadily shined over the electronic ether. In fact, in the last three months, Skrillex has released more material under his own banner than he has in the last three years. His latest release with serial counterpart, Boys Noize, arrives with four-on-the-floor gusto, seamlessly in line with the stylistic shape of much of the pair’s recent catalog.

But “Midnight Hour” mysteriously arrives without the duo’s resounding Dog Blood emblem, rather as a joint release under their respective aliases, with Skrillex’s frequent collaborator Ty Dolla $ign in tow. The delineation gives weight to the recent stirrings of a potential multi-track solo project from Skrillex in the works; a notion bolstered by Skrillex’s own repeated insistence that he’s currently sitting on droves of new music.

However, a representative from Skrillex’s team was only able to confirm that the track is the OWSLA boss’ first true single since 2017, and sits currently as a standalone release. Still, after a seductive house leaner on “Midnight Hour,” Skrill’s left the door for a forthcoming extended endeavor noticeably ajar.

Last year, HARD revived its beloved Day of the Dead festival for a long-awaited return to LA Historic Park. To celebrate, HARD delivered a lineup teeming with electronic forward-thinkers, topped by Justice and Die Antwoord. This year, Day of the Dead rises once again, returning to its host venue at LA Historic, though for the festival’s seventh iteration, Dog Blood will hold down headlining duties with The Martinez Brothers, TOKiMONSTA, and ZHU’s Blacklizt project also topping the bill.

The Dia De Los Muertos-inspired festival is set to take place on November 2, with additional star power coming from rising songwriter Elohim, enigmatic low-end force 1788-L, Justin Martin, Damian Lazarus, and more. Team Brownies & Lemonade also features on the lineup, suggesting a tightly curated mini-lineup of talent may spring up within the larger Day of the Dead roster. Following a successful outing with the event brand’s flagship summer event, HARD is riding high as we approach the impending Red Rocks Halloween run followed by a stacked Day of the Dead lineup.

LA-based DJ/producer duo Ship Wrek has been creating serious waves throughout the first half of 2019. Their Spinnin’ Deep release “Soul” hastily made the rounds in a number of DJ performances from the likes of Tiësto, Dillon Francis and Martin Garrix and in May, their Dog Blood edit of “Turn Off the Lights” began catching attention. During his surprise appearance at this year’s EDC Las Vegas, Skrillex teased the Ship Wrek version of the first Dog Blood release since 2013 and it quickly became a point of interest on the fan-curated 1001Tracklists.com. The duo is now treating their fans to not only the long-awaited bootleg after months of speculation and begging from the fans’ end, but also a complete five-track edit pack for DJs to employ this summer.

Each and every creation in the duo’s release is flooded with bouncy and enthralling four-on-the-floor house instrumentals. The pack launches with the aforementioned “Turn Off the Lights” bootleg and additionally includes takes on Mike Vale’s “Music Is the Answer,” a throwback version of “Smoke On The Water,” Dillon Francis & TV Noise’sEDM O’CLOCK” and one extra flip of Dog Blood with “Break Law.”

Good Morning Mix: Take a face-melting stroll through Wax Motif’s House of Wax #026Wa Motif

In recent years, Australia has proven a bottomless breeding ground for inventive electronic artistry. Flume, Alison Wonderland, What So Not, and Anna Lunoe are just a fun-sized chunk of the abundant Aussie eminence molding and maestroing the electronic space from global vantage points. Wax Motif, however, has flown relatively under the radar until recently, despite wide-reaching support from his counterparts and releases on upper-echelon imprints like Tchami’s CONFESSION, AC Slater’s Night Bass, Tiësto’s Musical Freedom, and Destructo’s All My Friends.

Motif’s House Of Wax SoundCloud mix series sees the “Kush Groove” artist, known for his disco-driven, G-House-drenched strain of four on the floor, compile his quixotic tastes in hour-long segments. In the 26th installment, Motif summons the songs of the hour, with piping hot new offerings from Dog Blood, Fisher, Black Caviar, Chris Lake, UMEK, Eli Brown, Matroda, and Sonny Fodera. Now you know: When the wax starts drippin’, it’s time to wake up and shake it.

NMF Roundup: Madeon returns, Dog Blood release four-track EP + moreMadeon Photo Cred Rukes

It’s most important day of the week: New Music Friday. With the overwhelming amount of tunes hitting the airwaves today, Dancing Astronaut has you covered with the latest edition of The Hot 25.

At long last, Madeon makes a triumphant return with his first original in years, “All My Friends.” Dog Blood, too, impress with a new four-track EP, Turn Off the Lights. Slander, Said the Sky, and JT Roach concoct brilliant “Potions” in their new release, and Nicky Romero takes on Kygo and Rita Ora’s “Carry On” in a new remix. The Bloody Beetroots and Dr. Fresch prove to be a formidable combo as they deliver their new collaboration, “Fkn Face,” and Yotto puts his own spin on RÜFÜS DU SOL’s iconic “Underwater.” Rinzen brings a touch of magic to Lane 8’s “Visions,” and Deorro eases fans into summer with “Obvious.” Maceo Plex delivers a lengthy, soothing single, “When the Lights Are Out,” and Petit Biscuit and JP Cooper join forces for “We Were Young.” Will Clarke puts a shimmering spin on Phantoms’ “Designs for You,” and Arty brings the “Sunshine” to his newest release. The Chainsmokers and Bebe Rexha dip between pop and dance music on “Call You Mine,” and Sofi Tukker link with Colombian duo Bomba Estéreo for a tropical number, “Playa Grande.” The latest Chase & Status LP has finally arrived, bringing with it songs like “Shut Up,” and Figure teams up with Hi I’m Ghost for “Intergalactic.”

As each week brings a succession of new music from some of electronic music’s biggest artists, here’s a selection of tracks that shouldn’t be missed this NMF.

At long last, Dog Blood returns with four-track ‘Turn Off The Lights’ EP

At long last, Dog Blood returns with four-track ‘Turn Off The Lights’ EPDog Blood Live 2

As singular entities both Skrillex and Boys Noize need no introduction. Together, under their star-speckled Dog Blood umbrella, they’re not a penny short of patent electronic music majesty.

After a six-year hiatus, Dog Blood is back in action with a four-track extended play, entitled Turn Off The Lights. The EP features a number of guest credits, including OWSLA veteran, josh pan, X&G, and Otira. The reemergence clocks in as the duo’s first multi-track release since their Middle Finger Pt. 2 EP of 2013. Anticipation ensconced the auspicious pair after they released the EP’s eponymous single back in March just before setting the Ultra main stage ablaze. The momentum continued with the release of their EP-geared Clap Back Vol. 1 mini-mix, which they doused in IDs.

Skrillex has been causing quite the commotion all by his lonesome, too. Mid-May he announced he would be unfurling a steady stream of “random releases” in coming weeks. The first of these came to fruition in his recently released Kelsey Lu remix of “Due West.” Now, Skrill is back with Boys Noize in tow for one of the most anticipated EPs of the year. Stream Turn Off The Lights below.
